Nowadays, More college students are beginning to prefer taking summer classes over time at the beach. Find out more on taking summer classes in this episode. Listen Summer Classes for College Students Most people see summer classes as the term for delinquent students to retake courses they have failed during the previous terms, however this is not always the case. In fact, thinking that summer classes are only for delinquent students is an OLD belief. Nowadays, more college students are beginning to prefer taking summer classes over time at the beach, which is actually a great thing. Why should you take summer classes? There are many reasons why a college student takes summer classes. Here are some of the reasons: * Summer classes allow students to take advance credit or extra credit. * Summer classes allow students to make the most out of their vacations by being productive. * Taking summer classes allows students to have lighter academic load in the succeeding terms. * It allows students to earn their degrees earlier (or on time). * It is a great opportunity for students to catch up with school, especially those who change majors or are taking double majors. Why should you not take summer classes? There are many reasons why a college student chooses not to summer classes. The film also discussed the issue of incompetent or underperforming teachers and teacher unions. EDUC Today #028 - Education for All 2015 | Clueless about the terms "Education for All 2015" and "Millennium Development Goals"? Learn more about the Education for All 2015 and the Millennium Development Goals in this episode of EDUC Today. Millennium Development Goals In the year 2000, 189 leaders from around the world met at the historic United Nations Millennium Summit in New York. The result of this meeting is a commitment, with a set deadline; 2015, which we now know the the Millennium Development Goals for 2015. We have 8 Millennium Development Goals for 2015 are: * Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. * Achieve universal primary education. * Promote gender equality and empower women. * Reduce child mortality. * Improve maternal health. * Combat AIDS/HIV, malaria and other diseases. * Ensure environmental sustainability. * Develop a global partnership for development. Education for All 2015 The Education for All movement took off at the World Conference on Education for All in 1990. The Education for All (EFA) movement is a global commitment to provide quality basic education for all children, youth and adults. At the World Education Forum (Dakar, 2000), 164 governments pledged to achieve EFA and identified six goals to be met by 2015. Here are the six internationally agreed education goals aim to meet the learning needs of all children, youth and adults by 2015. Goal 1 Expanding and improving comprehensive early childhood care and education, especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children Goal 2 Ensuring that by 2015 all children, particularly girls, children in difficult circumstances and those belonging to ethnic minorities, have access to, and complete, free and compulsory primary education of good quality. Goal 3 Ensuring that the learning needs of all young people and adults are met through equitable access to appropriate learning and life-skills programmes Goal 4 Achieving a 50 per cent improvement in levels of adult literacy by 2015, especially for women, and equitable access to basic and continuing education for all adults. Goal 5 Eliminating gender disparities in primary and secondary education by 2005, and achieving gender equality in education by 2015, with a focus on ensuring girls’ full and equal access to and achievement in basic education of good quality. Goal 6 Improving all aspects of the quality of education and ensuring excellence of all so that recognized and measurable learning outcomes are achieved by all, especially in literacy, numeracy and essential life skills. EDUC Today #026 - Distance Education for the Uninitiated (Part II) | Did you know that there's such a thing as distance education? Are you curious on what is and how distance education work? Kearsley, in 1996, defined “distance education” as a “planned learning that normally occurs in a different place from teaching and as result requires special techniques of course design, special instructional techniques, special methods of communication by electronic and other technology, as well as special organizational and administrative arrangements.” J. R. Verduiin, Jr. and T. A. Clark, in 1991, defined “distance education” as “any formal approach to learning in which a majority of the instruction occurs while educator and learner are at a distance from one another.” And last, the University of Idaho defined “distance education” as taking when “a teacher and student(s) are separated by physical distance, and technology (i.e., voice, video, data, and print), often in concert with face-to-face communication, is used to bridge the instructional gap.” Given these definitions of “distance education,” we can concluded that some of the elements of distance education are as follows: * The physical separation of the teacher and the student(s) * The use of any medium or technology to facilitate course instruction * And also, the use of any medium or technology to facilitate interaction among the learners themselves and their teachers and even school officials and administrators. Myths and Misconceptions on Distance Education * Studying via distance education means that you will be studying alone with no professors/instructors or classmates * Distance learners don't have to take written examinations that are proctored. Choosing a Distance Education Program When you choosing a distance education program and distance education school, always check the school or program's accreditation and the flexibility they offer.
