Explicit068 – TFFP: Star Wars (1977) | In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we're celebrating the 35th anniversary of the ORIGINAL Star Wars in all its "non-Special-Edition-Han-didn't-just-shoot-first-he's-the-only-one-who-shot-dammit glory"!!! So, join us, and special guest Darrell Taylor, for this, um, interesting take on the movie that might be most directly responsible for a CND pandemic. Directed by: George Lucas Screenplay by: George Lucas (and Gloria Katz & Willard Hyuck - rewrites, but I'm giving them credit as it's the only explanation for why this movie didn't turn out like the prequels.) Starring: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Alec Guinness, James Earl Jones/David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker Background Info (from Wikipedia): Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, originally released as Star Wars,[3] is a 1977 American epic space opera film,[4] written and directed by George Lucas. It is the first of six films released in the Star Wars saga: two subsequent films complete the original trilogy, while a prequel trilogy completes the six-film saga. It is the fourth film in terms of the series' internal chronology. Groundbreaking in its use of special effects, unconventional editing, and science fiction/fantasy storytelling, the original Star Wars is one of the most successful and influential films of all time. Set "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away", the film follows a group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Alliance as they plot to destroy the powerful Death Star space station, a devastating weapon created by the evil Galactic Empire. This conflict disrupts the isolated life of farmboy Luke Skywalker when he inadvertently acquires the droids carrying the stolen plans to the Death Star. After the Empire begins a cruel and destructive search for the droids, Skywalker decides to accompany Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on a daring mission to rescue the owner of the droids, rebel leader Princess Leia, and save the galaxy. This week's Movie Picks are: Darrell's Pick: Corvette Summer (1978) Jason's Pick: House of the Long Shadows (1983) Joel's Pick: American Graffiti (1973) Join us next week when we're talking about... Explicit066.5 – TFFP: PariahCon 2012 Panel – Battle of FX: Practical Vs. CGI | In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, it's a bonus episode (okay, not really, since we're releasing it in place of a "normal" episode, but it's definitely something different...)! In April of 2012, Jason and Joel were invited to present a panel at PariahCon, a convention held in central Florida. Jason had the idea to present a panel on practical vs. CGI FX, whereas Joel thought a panel on the fine art of being a "Best Boy" (look it up) would draw in the crowds. Needless to say, Jason (thankfully) won out. (All the movie links below are Amazon Affiliate links. So, if you decide to buy a copy of one of these movies, please use these links. We'll get a small commission to help support the site and podcast at no extra cost to you. Thanks!) Here's a list of our "good" FX example movies (in the order we discuss them): The Guyver (Practical) Pan's Labyrinth (CGI) Tremors (Practical) Where The Wild Things Are (CGI) Here's a list of our "bad" FX example movies (in the order we discuss them): Superman: The Movie ('78 version) (Practical) Megapython Vs. Gatoroid (CGI) The Howling (Practical) The Mummy Returns (CGI) King Kong Lives (Practical) Alien Apocalypse (CGI) Jaws 4: The Revenge (Practical) Spawn (CGI) Troll 2 (Practical) Deep Blue Sea (CGI) Hobgoblin (Practical) Star Wars: A New Hope (Special Edition - Jabba scene) (CGI) Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (CGI) Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Fan-made Jar Jar Binks "Tribute" film) (CGI) PariahCon 2012 Panel Video: Part 1 of 4 Part 2 of 4 Part 3 of 4 Part 4 of 4 Join us next week when we're talking about the 1980s action classic, No Retreat, No Surrender (1986), starring Jean Claude Van Damme! Nostalgia Plus
I stumbled across this on itunes and i'm so glad i gave it a shot. There are a lot of movie discussion podcasts and this is one of the best i have heard. Some are no better than a bunch of guys huddled around a tape recorder. Joel and jason's broadcasts are clear and sound very professional. For each episode, the guys will re-watch a film (usually from the 80's) and provide a plot synopsis, a review, discuss what was good and bad and provide further examples of related work for you to check out. i particularly enjoy how they research their weeks flick and provide little facts you didn't know about the movie production or some other aspect.
So if you spent your formative years standing in video rental stores looking for something you haven't seen already. If you can tell the difference between William Ragsdale and Zach Galligan. If you know your Lane Myer from your Michael Myers, this podcast is for you.

Great Look back at classics
I first listened on this podcast a few months ago. And to be honest I'm glad I did. Both hosts Joel and Jason are entertaining to listen to and are very laid back in their delivery. They bounce off each other quite nicely through discussion. They cover a wide choice classic films from the past. Some I myself have not gotten round to seeing so they give you heads up on some real gems for you to go and find.
Another thing about it I enjoyed is the fact they have no worries delving into the real cheesy (or as Jason calls it, 'Deep Fried Cheese') films that you may not have even heard of.
Even more encouraging is the fact that they take the time to reply/chat to you when you leave them feedback to be played on the show or post on their site and social network groups. This in itself is one of the many reasons which keeps me coming back for more. I've already subscribed to the forgotten flix, come and join me.
Brilliant
Really appreciate the talks, laughs and chosen movies in general.
Hand-picked gold!!
Good work lads.
