ExplicitScrolls Book Group: The Woman In Black | In which Susan Hill's chilling classical ghost story is shared, enthused over and examined by the Scrolls team. Clover hosts this special episode, ably assisted by Mattie & Phil and joined by the multi-talented Sarah Taylor, who has been a fan of the story (in all its forms) for many years. Whilst absent from the discussion, Dion provides a little atmosphere with selected readings from the text in the first half of the episode. With deference to the new film and the ever popular stage production, the second half of the episode examines alternative interpretations of the tale and the ways in which they both succeed and fail to capture the essence of Hill's creation. Along with a certain amount of squeeing. I'm naming no names. As ever with the Scrolls Book Group, spoilers abound, so we recommend that you read the book before you listen in. Preferably by candlelight. Alone... Feedback is always welcome. You can comment on this post, e-mail us at scrolls@hotmail.co.uk or follow our Twitter feed @Scrollscast (for author retweets and news.) You can even follow our personal accounts @Dion_Scrolls and @Phlambler if you like. Our next Book Group episode will be in November. If you want to take part in the episode after that then please drop us a line to say what book you would choose, and why you love it so much. We look forward to hearing from you. Keep reading. | 10 5 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitTim And Max Episode 6 - Obsession With Origins | Tim and Max Solve All The Problems With Popular Culture is STILL the newest podcast in the unstable time vortex that is the Geek Syndicate Network. The podcast aims to do exactly what it says on the tin – young buccaneers Tim Swann (@tetrarchangel on twitter) of Psycomedia (psycomedia.wordpress.com) and Max Barnard (@maxy_barnard on twitter) of You Must Hear This (imustreadthis.com) identify a key area where popular geek culture falls down and then try and come up with some ways that both the creators and the audience can fix it. In our sixth and final-ish episode, we discuss our present obsession with origins, get rather niche in references to our own podcasts, talk a lot about Spiderman, praise All-Star Superman and try and come up with quick summaries for less well-known characters, and Tim's man-crush of the week is Kyle MacLachlan. | 17 4 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitDissecting Worlds: Series 6, Episode 1 | Doning their tin hats the disagreeing duo of Dissecting Worlds turn their scalpels to Alternate History this series. To open the bowling they're going to limber up with Kim Stanley Robinson's "The Years of Rice & Salt", an exploration of a world in which Europe exited history in the 15th-16th centuries. This gives an opportunity to discuss alternate histories on the way, and in the process they potentially upset * quantum physicists * Marxists * Nazis * Harry Turtledove * Arthur C Clarke * the romantic view of history In the usual blend of confessions, obsessions & mispronunciations and teasers for future episodes in the series. ExplicitScrolls Chapter 18: Apocalypse Wow | After a short hiatus the Scrolls team is back, just in time for the end of the world. Join us as we explore the subject of apocalypse with regards to our beloved genres of science fiction, horror and fantasy. Books discussed include: Good Omens, The Tripods trilogy, Wolf In Shadow, The Last Battle, The Stand, The Road, Strength Of Stones, The Mist and Z For Zachariah. We start our exploration with 'Judgement Today,' as cultures, civilisations and species face the threat of extinction. Why do writers return to these uber-threats time and again and what do we, the readers get out of it? In the middle section 'Armageddon Outta Here' we look at the last survivors trying to make sense of the end-times, seeking a last bastion or just trying to survive. What does 'The End' mean in real and psychological terms to mankind? We wrap up with 'Post-Post-Apocalyptic,' running our eyes over some brave new worlds to see what some authors have used armageddon to achieve in terms of recreating civilisation from the ashes of the past. Which all sounds very high-faluting until you remember that this is Scrolls and most of the time we're stuffing our faces, making obscene jokes, wandering off-topic or discussing things that we may not actually, properly... (technically) have read. Therefore, in addition to the packed programme you can discover who Really wrote the music for The Omen, hear our review of a book that doesn't really exist, learn how to kill and cook a certain podcaster if things get particularly bad and (if you listen very carefully) you may even discover an Easter Egg. See below for the various links we mention in the podcast. City Of Hell Chronicles Lily Child's Feardom 100 Horrors: Tales Of Horror In The Blink Of An Eye Human Slaves (In An Insect Nation) Kim Curran's 'Shift' See you in the next world. ExplicitScrolls Chapter 17: Genre Blenders | In which the team try to pin down the essence of genre: what differentiates it from a style; who makes them and how it affects our reading experience. We go on to discuss the benefits and problems with blurring those boundaries. Actually, for the first fifteen minutes we try to stop Mattie playing SW:TOR and attempt to discuss a series of books that none of us has actually read - but then we get on topic. Honestly. The conversation was to have gone on for a good twenty minutes longer but technical difficulties plagued us in the latter part of the episode. On the plus side, all being well you will be hearing a little more from Scrolls 'somewhere' on the Geek Syndicate Network this month. Genre Blends that we recommend, but didn't have opportunity to discuss properly (or at all in some cases) include Artemis Fowl, the 'Jon Shannow' books, The 'Pax Britannia' series, Coraline, The 'Merrily Watson' series, 'The Tales Of The Otori' series, The Fifth Child, The 'Shadows Of The Apt' series, and Cloud Atlas. You should google them if they are unfamiliar to you, track down copies and read them. I would also heartilly recommend reading a short story by William Hope Hodgeson called The Derelict. It's about a 'ghost' sailing ship, yet has an old-world sci-fi vibe more in line with The Thing than The Fog. You can read it for free online but I particularly enjoyed the full audio dramatisation from Audio Comics in their Horrorscopes series. You should definitely give some of those a listen. As a hobby, both Phil and Dion have been entering a Flash Fiction competition on the writer Lily Childs' blog. These are stories of no more than 100 words, so easy to flick through, tricky to write. As a tenuous link to encourage people to go take a look (and potentially join in) I offer you my own little genre blender 'Bete Noir.' We post our stories in the comments section, so you'll need to scrolls down the page to find it. Finally, regarding Jeffrey Kacirk's Forgotten English calendar mentioned near the beginning of the podcast. The words I was supposed to fit in to conversation was 'Good Man's Croft.' You won't hear me getting it into conversation for technical reasons that I won't bore you with. The episode as a whole, though, may be considered to be a practical modern-day demonstration of the phrase. Hopefully we'll meet some of you lovely people at the SFX Weekender in February. Until then, keep reading. | 16 1 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitDissecting Scrolls 2011 | The twinkling lights are all up, there's a chill in the air, little boys and girls are starting to get excited and, somewhere in the distance, a jolly fat man is whipping his elves with a cat-o'-nine-tails to work Harder, damn them, Harder. It's nearly Christmas! It is the season of good will to all men - even pedantic sods and giggling morons. It is also the season of binge eating and drunken arguements. ExplicitDissecting Worlds Series 5 Episode 4: Aslan and other Gods | This month we wander through the Wardrobe of Geek Analysis to the magical land of Narnia. Joined by Timothy Swann of the Psycomedia (and others!) podcast, we plunge into the frozen wastes of fantasy godhood in the shape of everyone’s favourite Divine Lion. Subjects Covered: - Lewis vs Tolkien, the Inklings, and parallel development - His Dark Materials, Phillip Pullman and unintended messages - Creation and Management of your own universe - The Merits of Biting your enemy on the face over turning the cheek - Leaders as Servants - The Space Trilogy and Middle Earth Time Travel! - And Much More! Arthur C Clarke was of course a member of the British Interplanetary Society, a group of writers and engineers who were closely involved in the early British Space Program and Blue Streak Program in the 1950s/1960s. He never helped out the Doctor or battled alien ghosts at Hobb's end.(To our knowledge...) The Charity EP Tim mentions is here: http://www.musicglue.net/purereasonrevolution/ and he has been kind enough to post his intimidating 13 pages of notes here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UrXvqMlrIA_N6fUy-BwlM_lUpNeuHUo99tDP-qyXNPw/edit He is also on twitter @tetrachangel and Psycomedia is a quick google away. ExplicitScrolls Book Group: A Song Of Ice And Fire | Scrolls Book Group: A Song Of Ice And Fire In which we try to harness George RR Martin's vast, fiery beast as it spawls triumphantly across the gems of modern Fantasy. From the very first book, A Game Of Thrones, this series has proven to be one of those compulsive reads that ignite the passions of a whole generation of readers, reaching far beyond the traditional boundaries of genre preference. Joining us for the podcast are returning special guests Matt - The Grampus from Dissecting Worlds, and Carey - she of the Two-Monkeys from Geektress. We tackle the books one by one and focus on a particular theme for each. There are Major plot spoilers throughout and we do skip back and forth between books on occasion, so we strongly recommend that you only listen to this episode once you have finished reading Book 5: A Dance With Dragons. Warning: contains gratuitous boobies. [more....] Amongst the many items up for discussion are: Whose fault is it anyway, Why should you never bring your mum to work, Feuds and the Feudal system, Alternative weapons of war, Cers Ei Coyote, What's eating Red R'hllor, and The ignominous fate of bastards. In order to do the series justice we've recorded a far longer episode than usual - but never fear! For those of you who prefer your podcasts in bite-sized chunks we have divided the episode up into approximately half-hour segments with a musical cue from the stunning HBO television series to seperate them. The start times and themes for each section are as follows:- 2m 41s - A Game Of Thrones: Secrets 32m 57s - A Clash Of Kings: War 59m 14s - A Storm Of Swords: Betrayal 1h 28m 30s - A Feast For Crows: Religion and Magic 1h 53m 10s - A Dance With Dragons: Use of Power If you feel inspired to carry on the conversation, come and join in on the Geek Syndicate Discussion Boards on Facebook. Other ways you can interact with us include e-mail: scrolls@hotmail.co.uk and twitter: @scrollscast or the comments section below. [Oh, yeah - now put it in the background... just like that, baby... OOH!... Yeah...] This episode we talk a bit about torrid and horrid teen fiction, from Twilight to - well, we don't get much further on that part to be honest. Mattie is obsessed. Stepping away from the soppy stuff we touch on themes of profound friendship, burning passion and doomed love before finally getting down and dirty (and giggling a lot) with a big talk about sex. [Oh yeah, baby] Along the way we also find ourselves discussing inter-genre snobbery, unusual sexual positions, beetle licking and cinema snack-food. Near the start we mention a new podcast called Filmsploitation, run by a good friend of ours, Mr Phil Hobden. I heartily recommend you check them out. ExplicitScrolls Middle Earth Special Pt 3: Adaptations and The Tolkien Professor | Caught up in an orcstasy of hobbit-love, the Scrolls team talked so long into the night that an entire section of Chapter 8 had to be cut for fear of Melting Your Brains. Well... it's too late now, obviously, so as Scrolls is taking a short break this month we thought we would share the last of our late night ramblings with you. This then, is the Previously Unreleased third part of our Middle Earth Special in which we talk Adaptations - games, plays, movies, music and models. Not only that, ladies and gentlemen but we have Additional Bonus Content excavated for you from the dusty archives of Nargothrond. Shortly after the inaugural Festival-In-The-Shire event last year Clover nabbed a skype chat with one of the guests, Professor Corey Olsen. Wary of overburdening you with Tolkienalia at the time, it was eventually decided to shelve this interview - but now you can hear it in its entirety. Tune in and let the Tolkien Professor fix your melted brains. If you like what you hear you can download his podcasts free of charge here. Intro/Outro music is, as ever provided by Steadman. ExplicitScrolls Chapter 14: How To Be A Hero | In which the team try valiantly to determine what makes for a great hero, how the nature of heroism has changed over time and what makes a Hero attractive to read about - in theory. And I did say 'try.' It's a big subject (as usual) and we cover quite a bit of ground, but we still manage to wander off topic, insert a certain vegetable repeatedly and pin down the essential pork-pie-ness of Arathorn's boy. Have a listen then let us know what you think on the Geek Syndicate Facebook Page e-mail us at scrolls@hotmail.co.uk or tweet @scrollscast. Forgot to mention this in the podcast, but the David Gemmell Legend Awards for Fantasy are currently running. They're down to a short list and you could help swing things. Be sure to go along and cast your vote. Mr. TheCruel's mosaic-novel-in-progress can be found here if you fancy read along or getting involved. ExplicitScrolls Chapter 13: World Building for Dummies | Reunited at last, the Scrolls gang bite off more than they can chew with the titanic topic of World Building in the genres we love so much. As the rubber-ball of conversation bounces around we try to get a grip on what makes for a convincing Secondary world - how atmosphere, character, otherworldly physics and location can be combined to produce a satisfying and all-encompassing experience for the reader. Through all of this we touch upon themes of authorial imagination and self-indulgence, world vs story building and what a reader's sense of ownership means. Along the way we also get distracted by trouser disfunctions, podcast power-struggles, what a petard actually is, and trying to figure out just how Frodo could navigate Middle Earth without the handy maps in the front of the book. ExplicitDissecting Worlds Series 3 Episode 7 - Miltiary Conclusions | The terrible twosome wrap up their miltiary series with a general chin wag about what've learned over the last 6 weeks. Not a lot, but in the course of this they consider does SF ever really tell miltiary stories? Where there is space to tell such stories?. How do Computer games fit in to genre military fiction?. Is there a miltiary fiction genre of it's own? Why is Outcasts so poo? They also consider modern British casualty sensitivity and consider the allogorical power of science fiction and how it's sometimes wasted in miltary SF. Matt is unkind to Footfall while discussing asymetrical warfare and Kehaar is as always the steady voice of wise counsel (not.) Needless to say they bounce around such historical matters as comedy Nazis, Northern Ireland and the British Indian Army. The low tech colony book mentioned is actually Seeds of Earth by Michael Cobleyhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Seeds-Earth-Humanitys-Michael-Cobley/dp/1841496316/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1297596904&sr=1-1 Details of 'Conspiracy' here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266425/ Feedback is as ever welcome on the forums, or by emailing dissectingworlds@yahoo.co.uk. ExplicitDW3-5 Space Above and Beyond and Marines | After there jovial interludes and seasonable break the DW boys tackle Space Above and Beyond a show that perhaps unfairly got canned in it's first season and which provides a useful jump off point to look at Marines in Science Fiction. Wonder at how often Matt can say 'Hard Asses', astound at Kehaars pet obesssions coming to the fore and ponder the many examples of Marines in science fiction they praise and diss in equal measure. On the way we call by Iwo Jima, Starship Troopers, Stormtroopers, Star Trek, Aliens, and much much war. We perhaps don't go enough into expeditionary warfare but the episode takes a turn where we look at the Marine as a trop (ooo hark at us)e in SF and in broader fiction too. ExplicitScrolls Chapter 10: Game Changers | Chaos ensues once again as the troublesome team try to uncover the books and authors that had a major role in creating our favourite genres or have since shaken things up, put a new spin on them and generally kept it all fresh. It has been heavily edited, resulting in the sad loss of several interesting conversations about books and authors which were too off-topic or else deserving of far more time and analysis on a seperate podcast. Despite that it's a monster episode and there's loads of silliness which did survive the edit because frankly we'd rather be funny than dull. Miraculously maintaining our sky-high standards (despite the removal of one persons pants and the shaking of another cast-member's member) we plunge back through time to glance at Gilgamesh and rampage right through to 2010 with all the clinically-precise organisation of the average student's sock drawer - and many similarly unsavoury and cheesy elements. The plugathon at the end makes reference to short story The Golden Egg which you can get to by clicking on this link here. ExplicitIndie Asylum - Episode 3 'Difficulty' | Once again it’s time to tread the halls of Indie Asylum as we have a damn hard time wrapping our collective craniums around the subject of difficulty. With head scratching and brain punching we break out some games covering all varying levels of difficulty, with some chilled and casual that even Chelle can play to some so hard I wanted to kill puppies with my fists. All that and enough indie love to make the fat cats of Wall Street break free and live like work shy, over emotional, over opinionated hippies. Which funnily enough describes Silent Hitoshura who was kind enough to suggest this theme to us. So before I cut loose and go live in a cage, here’s some awesome games: 1. ExplicitDissecting Worlds Series 3 Episode - 2 Tremeraire, His Majesty's Dragon & Air Forces | This time Master Kehaar and First Mate Grampus set sail for the Napoleonic Wars: the Napoleonic War with Dragons. In the process they admire the writing, society and military technology of the Tremeraire books. While at it they keel hawl the reputation of Napoleon, amputate Marshall Bulcher and pull out the guns on the nature of the HMS Allegiance. Hammers Slammers make a surprise appearance and Kehaar gets all gushy eyed on the heroism of the period, Sharpe and Hornblower mainly stay in reserve but their presence is felt. They also admire the other developments of the time (though manage not to mention the Romantic movement - silly boys.) Jane Austin, Tom Mix and Tom Crabbe even get a mention. So take a tot of rum, sound general quarters, scramble, stand to your guns, mount up or form square depending on your service me lads & lasses - Do you want to see Napoleon in Windsor Castle? NO! ExplicitGS Network Presents: Scrolls Chapter 9: Book At Bogtime | fter a couple of relatively in-depth episodes the gang settle back into their old routine, loosen their belts and have a good old natter about the best books to read on the holiest of holes. Basic practicalities such as portability, absorbency (i.e. attention spans) and the cloth-touching of family trouser-turtles are all mulled over and given the serious consideration they deserve. Meanwhile welcome distractions are provided by a hacking cough, the cheapskate Ambassador of Ferrero Rocher and Blue Peter ladies - both totty and notty. Books and authors discussed include The Green Mile, The Yellow Wallpaper, Robert Bloch, Blood Sword, Leather Goddesses Of Phobos, Charles Dickens, The Lottery, The Running Man, HP Lovecraft and Legends. Strangely no mention is made of Wee Jock Poo-Pong McPlop, for which I apologise. We do however mention a website from which you can get access to a whole bunch of free stories online – here’s the link http://freesf.blogspot.com/ Send your entries for the banner and logo competition flooding in to scrolls@hotmail.co.uk and for the sake of economy you can use the same e-mail address to contact us about joining in with the Scrolls Book Group podcast – open to all. I’m on Twitter now @Dion_Scrolls so I’d love to get any feedback there, on the forums at http://www.gsforums.co.uk via e-mail or on the comments section below. So much choice! Music is as ever by Steadman - except for the jazzy bit at the start which came off of some crappy cd I got free with a cocktail shaker a few years back. I should probably add that we are giggly and explicit from the beginning, but not so distasteful as to be graphic. Well, not that graphic. Wuss. ExplicitDissecting Worlds - Season 2-7 Law & Order Conclusions | Finally the Dissecting Worlds pair get back on the beat and bring together the conclusions from series 2 on Law & Order and Crime & Punishment in this bumper episode. In so doing they look at the subject in Vampire fiction. They consider the seperation of the Judicary in genre fiction. Ask why does Jonah.J.Jameson hate spiderman? They also ponder the relationship between Babylon 5 security and the Chief Constable of South Wales. Sigmund Freud and TV's Sherlock help with enquiries, and Starfleet Security's job spec is considered. On the way they also consider the shady godlen dagger wielding almost respectable genre cousin of Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror - Crime Fiction & telly - CSI ends up walking into a door taking the jury system with it and Morse may fall down some stairs. Harry Potter, Capes and Tights and Dredd also guest star, With some parochial Marvel movie news. Ed McBain & She Hulk are mentioned in dispatches. Kehhar gets confused bettween honor/guilt culture (refering to honour and face which are the same thing - the dolt!) & gets told off by his wife. It's just like an early epsiode of the Sweeney really but without the smoking. They might even mention The Wire in an epsiode with more conclusions than the Return of the King movie. Email:dissectingworlds@yahoo.co.uk or twit Grampus @theGrampus or Kehaar @Clarkythecruel for feedback. Further opinionated nonsense available at Matt's Tolkien Gestures column on the geek syndicate site and roleplaying/wargaming rubbish from Kehaar at http://clarkythecruel.wordpress.com/ The excellent Harker mentioned is available from here: http://www.arielpress.com/about.html | 27 9 10 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitScrolls Middle Earth Special Part 2: Everybody's Tolkien At Me | Ok, urgent pub visit done and dusted - look I had to get Summer out of the way so Clover could do a skype interview ok... don't you be judging me Ok, blurb ahoy - In which the awooga button is tossed on the ground and comprehensively stomped on so that everyone can get comfy and chat about the uber-fantasy that is Lord of the Rings. Taking our cue from the Festival In The Shire we talk about the great works from all kinds of angles - discussing them in terms scholarly, as fans having a good time sharing our experiences, and as readers just celebrating Middle Earth for it's depth, history and grandeur. We also talk a load of old rot, giggle stupidly, mis-quote, mis-understand and mis-appropriate other peoples thoughts and theories. But, you know, with style. It's a monster show, so we've had to cut out the adaptations section just to keep it to a reasonable length. I'm guessing that could make a part 3 all of it's own at some point. | 26 8 10 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitDissecting Worlds series 2- Episode 5 Harry Potter & the Arguing Northerners | In this spoiler filled outing the Lizard of Leeds & Wirral Seagull get to grips with jolly quidditch sticks, civil war, murder and death. Yes it's the Werner Hertzog banter that is the Potterverse a world of magic, mystery, genocide and govenrment incompetence. Natural fodder for the bantering Muggle bi-polarness that is Dissecting Worlds. We're looking at Law and Order with particular attention on the Ministry of Magic, Dumbeldore's Army, Order of the Pheonix & You-know-who. This leads us into a merry dance down the First World War, Nazis, the Ulster Defence Association, 2nd Amendment of the US Consitution, the deference between vigilantes & miltia amongst much else. And a hufftastic Quidditch argument. What's not to love? Sit down with your Butterbeer & Chocolate Frogs (or beverage & snacks of choice) and enjoy. ExplicitScrolls Ch 5: Fishfingers and Custard | With 'consumate professionalism' the team finally hit their stride. No silliness or smut here, no sirree. Ahem. The subject up for grabs is pinpointing some of the more off the wall books that work in unexpected ways. Between the earnest reviews we cruelly cause Gilbert and Sullivan turn in their graves, find room for both scarecrows and tin-men (though sadly no lions or yappy-type dogs), the QI awooga makes its Scrolls debut and the Waltons are revealed to be a little more back-woodsy than were previously suspected. ExplicitScrolls Chapter Four - Kick-arse Babes | This episode the team takes a look at the various ways women have been represented in fantasy, sci-fi and horror. Touching on themes of independence, the power of sexuality, roles in fictional societies and how we identify with the characters, we skate a meandering path across the surface of this vast topic. Books mentioned include... She, Monstrous Regement, Lord Of The Rings, The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, Audition, Dead Until Dark, Carmilla, Revelation Space, Heaven's Net Is Wide. Amongst the chin-stroking and cod intellectual comments we learn a valuable lesson concerning the consumption of beer and ice-cream, fail utterly to mention Ursula LeGuin (doh!) or Angela Carter (double-doh!), and continue our tradition of mis-remembering key plot points. Dion is calling from the moon, so please excuse his sound quality. By the way, does anyone know where Mattie is? He's got big soft eyes, fluffy ears and a bald fat head. An ISN special report confirms Kehaar is doing the Liverpool Half Marathon if you want you can sponsor him hear http://www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Clark1 TWGNN is also willing to sponsor a Comic Forum project - details on the Geeksyndicate forum an executivue summary below from Bluemeanie: "Ok, short version - if we get enough teams to warrant doing it, we were after short comic stories of up to 10 pages max. The theme at the moment is just nerd-life, but this might change if the forum gets fixed and people can actually give feedback. Deadline wise, were talking end of September which should be enough for even the laziest to get 3 or 4 pages together. Then it all gets put in a book, thrown up in Indyplanet and any and all proceeds go to the Hero Initiative. In the past these have just been a bit of fun and only shift copies to people who have something in there, but its still a bit of fun and good practice." ExplicitScrolls - Episode 0 "We All Have To Start Somewhere" | Welcome to the pilot episode of Scrolls, the podcast for literary geekdom. The team first explores some of the influences that got us interested in fantasy, sci-fi and horror back in the day. We then roll an eye over the books we’ve been reading most recently, before beginning the first of our (soon to be legendary) discussions about the vast flood of literary adaptations out there. Finally we share some of the books we feel compelled to come back to again and again. Amongst it all we wander between swearing monkeys, dead wasps and the joyously camp fifth ghostbuster. We ponder deep mysteries such as the genre placement of Muppet Treasure Island and just how easy it would be to get a can of coke in Mordor. We also discover which member of the cast cheated at Fighting Fantasy, which one rates The Very Hungry Caterpillar as a formative piece of genre fiction and who thinks there’s just something special about a pangolin. | 18 1 10 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitTwo geeks with no name podcast: Series 1 Empires: Episode 1 The Klingons | With the 'Two Geeks With No Name' podcast you get two opinionated gets dissecting and disputing the social science in and behind a popular piece of science fiction (and who knows maybe one day fantasy.) We're looking to get an even spread of disucssion material from TV, film, Books and were possible comics, games, radio and other media. We're splitting it into thematically linked series of about 6 episodes- so for our first we'll be looking at Empires - by which we mean the states which dominate a particular SF universe. For our first and pilot episode we chose the Klingon Empire simply becausebecuase there is so much material out there and wend our merry way through the analogies, relations and power of the Klingons with side tracks into the economics of Star Trek, Star Fleet diplomacy and Kirk branded cologne For our second we're thinking of doing Dune (but only the first 3 books!) We would love input from the audience on future ideas for both episodes (is there a particular SF Empire you would like to see dissected?) and themes for series (Law & order, rebel movements, Religion in SF are some of muted topics for future series.) We're also open to name suggestions and possible logo rebranding. Any ideas email: twogeekswithnonamepodcast@yahoo.co.uk | 18 1 10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Great stuff
This is my favourite podcast. It's a great source of news and info on everything geek, featuring reviews of TV programmes, films, games and comics, as well as giving the skinny on what to look out for in the future. Hosts Barry and Dave are one of the great double acts of our age! With handy tips on fighting vampires, special guest stars (who all sound remarkably like Barry) and all the latest info on the global conspiracy that is Epoch, this is also a vital public service broadcast. Check it out!
Geek Syndicate
The makers of Geek Syndicate claim that their podcast is your ‘guide to the murky underbelly of geekdom.’ A bold claim indeed, but one that definitely holds up. Presenters David Monteith and Barry Nugent have been friends since childhood and this chemistry flows through every episode creating a genuine charismatic dynamic that’s rare these days, yet there’s no clique here; with every episode you’re pulled into the family and welcomed with a virtual embrace and hilarious banter as they cover the entire spectrum of geekdom. And again, that’s what works here, there’s honestly something here for everyone helping make sure that the podcast stays fresh and informative in this day and age of constant information overload at your fingertips. Listening through their back catalogue of episodes you can see the giant strides these two have made with their podcast, yet they’re still as humble and friendly today as they were when they began, even with the high profile guests that they’ve earnt the right to interview, firmly establishing their place in the world of pop culture. There really should be more people like Dave and Barry and there really should be more podcasts like this, but then again, maybe that’s the point. Maybe that’s what makes this podcast so listenable and likeable - it’s uniquely Geek Syndicate. It’s addictively Geek Syndicate. So take a listen, you’ll be glad you did.
Get your Geek on Ninjas :D
If you want a highly entertaining, informative and fun podcast all about everything geek-related then this is the podcast for you :) Barry and Dave continue to produce top quality episodes every week with a range of literary, thespian and comic book creator guest interviews, comprehensive reviews and all round interesting debate...just don't get Dave started on hot women ;)
