ExplicitHorrorphilia Presents Horror Hits: Volume 10 – Goblin’s 40th Anniversary Mix | 2012 marks the anniversary of the formation of the Italian prog-rock combo that came to be known as Goblin. Goblin started off as Oliver in 1972 with core group being: Claudio Simonetti (Keyboards), Massimo Morante (Guitars), Fabio Pignatelli, and Walter Martino. Later in late 1973, after additional members came and went, they changed their name to Cherry Five, which did not last long, and after a few minimal releases dropped the name and found new life as Goblin. 1975 marked Goblin's first of many collaborations with director Dario Argento, providing the soundtrack to the film Profondo Rosso (Deep Red). This teaming would continue until 1982's Tenebre with the dissolving of the band's core lineup. Throughout the following years, various members of the group continued to contribute to Argento film scores. With the 1978 release of Zombi, the Dario Argento cut of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, Argento recruited Goblin to replace the stock library music Romero used in his version. Between various film scores, the band still somehow found the time to release several albums of non soundtrack material including a concept album Il Fantastico Viaggio del Bagarozzo Mark (The Fantastic Voyage of Mark the Cockroach). In 2000, the main core of Morante, Pignatelli, and Simonetti reunited as Goblin for, what else, but to compose the score for a new Dario Argento film Non Ho Sonno (Sleepless). The band returned to recording new material and toured until 2009, when Claudio Simonetti decided to leave the band once again. Dark Tide (2012) directed by John Stockwell reviewed by Syn Stacy Katie (Hallie Berry) is known as the shark whisper. However, she suffers a personal loss at the beginning of the film that causes her to sink into a deep depression and keeps her from swimming with her beloved sharks. Now with her business failing she receives an offer to take a billionaire to dive with the sharks, outside the cage. She finds out just what lengths she'll go to when her back is against the wall. Murder Set Pieces (2004) directed by Nick Palumbo by Dead Redd Set in Las Vegas. This is the story of a fashion photographer whose vocation is murder, a voyeuristic nightmare of blood sex and brutality. The tag line is "The most visceral horror film ever made." We Are the Night (2010) directed by Dennis Gansel reviewed by Splatter Flick Chick Set in Berlin, three beautiful female vampires choose a fourth female vampire named Lena. Lena is a dirty and grungy pick and pocket. However, this ugly duckling turns unto a swan. This movies displays a beautiful transformation from a moral into an immortal. Criminals, the police department, and jealously can not keep these vampy women together. Evil Things (2009) directed Dominic Perez reviewed by Girl Afraid This movie is considered found footage. It documents five college students for a weekend. One of the student's documents the weekend where the students are descended into a nightmarish, pure terror of hell where they all disappear. Although she has been working in the industry since 2007, Roxsy’s big film debut when she brought her Carnival of Horrors to life in the Spring of 2010, via Potent Media, accompanied by her co-hosts Christopher Walker, Christian Jude Grillo, Chuck Maher, Johnnie Howard. Roxy’s signature look is darkly gorgeous, always including her black top hat, goth/rocker clothing and clown like make-up, a beautiful yet hardened look compared to her everyday soft features, reddish brown hair and petite frame. Her love of the Marx Brothers shines through as Roxsy bosses the boys around her carnival while they share their, usually, cheesy B movie choice of the month. Roxsy starred opposite Raine Brown in the 2010 release of Booley, Potent Pictures first feature film, a great revenge story that addresses the continual problem of bullying in schools. Roxsy also starred in the Tom Berdinski film, The Giant Rubber Monster Movie, which is nominated for a short film Rondo Award (VOTE NOW), alongside many other popular horror hosts. The much anticipated indie horror film, Deer Crossing, another Potent Pictures film, should be released in 2012, and is presently being accepted for screening in horror conventions and film festivals globally, four to date! Roxsy also has an acting role in Deer Crossing, that also stars Christopher Mann, Doug Bradley, Ernie Hudson, Laura Cottrel, KJ Linehan, and Chris Inlow, but she is also Co-Editor and did some still photography for it as well. Shortly after viewing it, I spoke with the actor Toussaint Jeanlouis and the writer/director Walt Bost and the music composer David Frank Long. An enjoyable interview with these three men. Walt Bost the writer/director for The Hike was humorous and laid back from North Carolina and I liked that his characters were not over the top stereotypical characters. They "are just characters that I want you to care about. They are just people." David Frank Long Happy Go Lucky David was a breath of fresh air. He asked my thoughts on a particular phobia in regards to horror. I think I answered him well. Toussaint Jeanlouis portrayed Nate one of the characters in the short film The Hike. A fascinating young man with a love for the theatre "It's the place where I feel I can connect the most to people. It's my home." Samantha a lovely lady is just full of sunshine and very comical and friendly. She is an Actress, Producer, and Writer and she took this short and rewrote it and the film was a SCREAM!
