Holiness Through Adversity | Dave explained that there are four elements to Hebrews Chapter 12, a book full of wisdom. However, he would speak, not on the last two (the old covenant given on Mt Sinai, and the unshakeable kingdom), but on adversity that leads to righteousness/holiness and the self-discipline that is required to overcome adversity in that journey to meet God. Hebrews 12:1 says “....and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Then, in verses 5 and 6, the author quotes the encouragement of Proverbs 3:11 and 12 in which the Lord disciplines and corrects those He loves as sons (and daughters). | 21 4 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Faith - sure in hope, certain of the unseen. | Sean opened by inviting us to consider who are our contemporary heroes of the Christian faith. The reason for doing this became clear as church members read out loud to the congregation the whole of chapter 11 of Hebrews, which is one of Sean's favourite books of the bible. The whole of this chapter is like a synopsis of the old testament highlighting all of the great men and women of faith from Abel to the last of the prophets. These men and women were commended by God because they operated in faith without any of them ever receiving the treasure promised by God as their reward for being faithful. For this reward, they were to wait until the final day of judgement when we will all be together and God could, only then, give them and us that better thing He had planned - to make us perfect. | 14 4 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Triumphal Entry | Known as Palm Sunday, today was marked by Steve describing Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem on his final journey. Jesus' followers believed in the miracles he had performed and were joyful as they walked with Jesus. However, the expectation of some of his Jewish followers for the Messiah to arrive was very different from reality. Two miles from the city gates, Jesus commanded his disciples to go ahead and get a donkey for him to ride in victory but, also, in humility (this, in accordance with prophecy). The mis-understanding Jews expected the Messiah to arrive, dramatically defeat the Romans and instantly free the Jews from the occupying forces. God, however, had other ideas! | 31 3 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Thankfulness | Steve opened with a shaggy-dog story about his daughter's errant furry cat! Eventually, we learned the point was the huge sense of thankfulness experienced by Steve and his wife when the cat finally returned home late at night. They, also, felt great relief that there would be no need, in the morning, for difficult explanations to daughter about a missing cat! To put this into a spiritual context, Steve drew on the story of the ten lepers who called out to Jesus to take pity on them. Jesus told them to show themselves to the priests and, as they went, they were healed. However, only one of them, a Samaritan (and a foreigner to Jesus), after discovering that he had been healed, chose to return, give thanks to Jesus and praise God! So, it was with a sense of thankfulness that the mothers and mothers-to-be were honoured on this Mothering Sunday and the children came from their activities with gifts for their mums. | 17 3 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Jesus - Lord over Creation, demons, sickness and death | Alastair's wife Alison read from Mark before Alastair unpacked the story about the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years and about Jairus and his daughter who was very ill and died. Alastair stressed that there was and is only one resurrection; that of Jesus Christ, while all recover from death are raised from the dead. In summary, Alastair drew out the following: All can come to Jesus whether they are insiders or outsiders; There are two types of fear – one that kills faith and one that follows faith; Jesus was absolutely pure and His blood cleanses us from all sin; He assures us personally; The raising of the dead points to our destiny; Delay is not a disaster as far as healing is concerned because God can heal at any stage even after apparent death. | 10 3 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Covenants | Dave wished to unpack fully the bible's covenants (of which there are many in the OT and one in the NT) but time was too short. So, he quickly defined covenant as a solemn oath by God of what He would do. He then reviewed the principal covenants: Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic (Sinaitic), Davidic (delivered by angels (messengers) to the nominees) and the New Covenant delivered by Jesus. | 3 3 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

In the Order of Melchizedek, Jesus, the High Priest Made Perfect For Ever | Today, Sean conveyed, effectively, his great excitement at the knowledge, revealed in Chapter 7 of Hebrews, that Jesus is the High Priest equalling the priest of God Almighty, Mechizedek, referred to in Genesis 14:18. Unlike the priests of Levi who died and had to be replaced, Jesus won't be replaced because He is made perfect and lives forever. Moreover, He doesn't need to sacrifice, like the priests of Levi, day after day for His sin and that of the people because He committed no sin but sacrificed himself once, for all people and for all time. So, He is available to us always! | 25 2 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Let Us Press On To Maturity | Ric presented Chapter 6 as one of two halves: Firstly, Warning and Direction: we are encouraged to move on from fundamental teaching about repentence for sin into maturity and to learn about things like laying on of hands and eternal judgement. Secondly, The Better: there is a better life for those who have been saved. We are encouraged always to keep up our good works and our love for God. God is not unjust and will not forget. He has sworn an oath by Himself (for He cannot lie) confirming the unchanging nature of His purpose and maintaining the hope of the heirs of what was promised. | 18 2 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Jesus - the Great, High Priest | The prevalent Jewish way of atoning for sin in Jesus time was by animal sacrifice through the high priest. Steve shows us how there was a better way: Jesus was better than the Jewish high priests in many ways but, in particular, because He was without sin, despite temptation by satan! Jesus is the one-off sacrifice for all time, for us, for all our sin. Jesus is The, Great, High Priest. Steve explains how we can be confident of this and how we can apply the truth of it to our lives. | 11 2 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Let Us Enter That Rest That Only Jesus Can Give | After the dedication of three children of church members, Steve took us with sureness through chapters 3 and 4 of Hebrews. We should seek 'the rest' of God that is provided by the perfection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Steve illustrated his talk with a clip from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Ian and Paula aided by singing that very pertinent and wonderful song 'In Christ Alone'. | 4 2 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Jesus... who, by the grace of God, tasted death for everyone. | Dave continued our journey through Hebrews with a comprehensive look at Chapter 2. The essence of this chapter is that it is the perfection of Jesus, who was without sin, that gives us, as believers, salvation for our sins through His death on the cross. | 28 1 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Better | Ric opens up Hebrews to give us a comprehensive overview of Chapter 1. It's all about Jesus; look to Jesus for all your needs and keep on looking to Jesus. We are urged to avoid purely-intellectual knowledge or understanding of Jesus and to know Him in our hearts from deep, personal, on-going relationship. There is much on angels in Chap 1 after only 4 verses on Jesus but when, the two are compared, Jesus is better than all the others by a long, long way; He is the ultimate! "And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way." | 21 1 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Be Confident and Press On! | The theme for the present season is 'Be Confident, and Press On'. To develop this theme, Sean commences with an examination of Hebrews. He identifies and explains the relevance of four important attributes that a believer in Christ should possess and three keywords. The attributes are: Evaluation, Expectation, Exhortation and Exaltation and the keywords are: Better, Perfect and Eternal. | 14 1 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

How do we cultivate our souls to produce good fruits? | No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognised by its own fruit. We should be intentional in cultivating good fruits through our souls and Sean explains how this can be achieved. He shares the message time with Tracey who tells us about practical ways in which we can cultivate our souls to be in better alignment with God and, thereby, produce good fruits. | 7 1 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Do Not Be Afraid | Malcolm was one of the chief instigators of the planting of JCF, and visits today from The Coign Church, Woking. The theme of today's msg is Jesus' oft-repeated command "Do not be afraid" and Malcolm gives five examples of how it was applied. We start with Zechariah who had been frightened by the angel Gabriel when he told him that his wife would bear a son despite having been barren. Also, the son was to be named John contrary to what Zechariah had decided. The same angel appeared to Mary to tell her of her forthcoming virgin birth and the naming of the baby as Jesus. Next to the shepherds in the field who took fright at the appearance of an angel who came to tell them of the birth of the Christ in nearby Bethlehem. In each of these cases, the angel said “Do not be afraid”. Much later, at the start of Jesus' ministry, the fisherman Simon (called Peter by Jesus) was frightened by Jesus' miraculous ability to enable him and his friends to catch many fish when they were unable catch anything. Jesus said “Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch men”. The last example is of Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, whose daughter was dying while he was trying to get Jesus' attention to heal her. As Jesus answered him, a friend told him his daughter had died but, on hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus "Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed." | 10 12 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Persecution of The Worldwide Christian Church | Mervyn gives us a rather stark and often tear-jerking picture of rising persecution of Christians in the modern world. The picture is not one with which we are unfamiliar and it has been a feature of Christian life since the time of Jesus. However, it is something that we tend to push to the back of our minds or forget about in our busy lives. So, Mervyn gives us a wake-up call to the fact that our Christian brothers and sisters are being persecuted, harassed, imprisoned, attacked and murdered simply for being of the Christian faith. We are called upon to take action to support Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) (for which Mervyn works). CSW provides a voice for the voiceless to help reduce persecution in the 26 countries for which CSW has the resources. Worldwide, there are 60 plus countries that allow/promote persecution of Christianity and other faiths. | 29 10 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Grace Week 1 - Introduction to Grace; Religion, No Way! | Sean introduced a new series of Sunday messages themed on grace, God's AMAZING GRACE. Grace is fundamental to relationships, especially to our relationship with God. We are only saved by grace, not by our deeds, either good or bad. This does not mean that we may sin and get away with it but that, if we sin, and we truly and sincerely repent of that sin, we can receive God's forgiveness, continue to be saved and have eternal life with God in Heaven. | 11 9 11 | Free | View In iTunes |
