''With this mix I've traced a musical line between the first sets I played at Just Jack up to the present day. This isn't a collection of this month's latest tracks: I've dug out the likes of Will Saul's tech-house classic 'Pause' and the Noir disco of 'Round the House' (one of Tensnake's darker moments) - as they remind me so much of the early Just Jack parties. Over an hour we catch up to the present, with the organic wiggle of 'Every Cow has a Bird' and the classic deep house sound of San Soda, via a bit of Soundstream. Her debut track 'Intentions' spent the summer being regularly unleashed on DC10 crowds by the likes of Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves and Ryan Crosson. The Leeds based producer's first foray into production was released on Matt Tolfrey's Left'd label in September and a follow up release is set to drop on Left’d’s vinyl big brother Leftroom later in the Autumn. With such an esteemed start in production it’s no surprise then that Laura’s first proper excursions behind a DJ booth were for influential underground nights, Mulletover and Below.
"It's a real pleasure being asked to put a mix together for one of Bristol's finest club nights. I've tried to create a snapshot of the musical influences and sounds that I'm really loving out there at the moment. There's a mixture of old and new, a couple of old favourites of mine as well as a couple of upcoming unreleased tracks of some REALLY cool up and coming artists. There's also a couple of mine thrown in there for good measure including my new track 'Love In Me' coming out on Leftroom next month. The aim of the game is to make you boogie and smile. For our latest podcast we hand over to Waifs & Strays, one of the rising producer partnerships from our home town of Bristol and the latest signings to Matt Tolfrey's Leftroom Records.
Their first release, 3am, has gained strong support from Wolf+Lamb, Luciano, Anja Schneider Danny Tenaglia, dOP and Laurent Garnier (to name a few), and was recently featured on Nick Curly's Essential Mix. The follow up, Yeah Yeah, has been gaining huge international support prior to its October release, with Radio1's Heidi making it one of her favourite tunes of the year.
"Living in Bristol, we have both loved the Just Jack parties over the last 5 years; they have really constantly pushed the boundaries and bent the rules with their bookings and general head-eating wrongness, We are honoured to be asked to mix one of their podcasts. With this mix, we tried to do something a little deeper, and a bit slower than we would play in a peak set in a club, but trying to still include some of our current favourite tracks of the moment. "As the name would suggest, this mix is inspired by the legendary Just Jack after-parties at The Old Fox Inn. Its an hour long mix taken from a 2 hour set. I tried to chose tunes that would represent Just Jack as best as I could, obviously a podcast shouldn't just be a selection of club-tunes so I tried to get a bit of other stuff in there so it can be listened to at home, in the car or wherever you feel like.
