There he learnt the five principles of Mars - quality, responsibility, mutuality, efficiency and freedom. He joined Britain's second largest supermarket, Asda, in 1995, where he experienced the textbook turnaround and the subsequent takeover by Wal-Mart, the world's largest enterprise. Then, at age 40, Richard became one of the youngest CEOs of a British FTSE 100 company at Boots Group plc.
