In The Social Network, director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin explore the moment at which the most revolutionary social phenomenon of the new century was invented. The result is a drama rife with both creation and destruction; one that purposefully avoids a singular POV, but instead, by tracking duelling narratives, mirrors the clashing truths and constantly morphing social relationships that define our time. Jesse, Andrew, Justin and Aaron discuss the making of the film, screen clips and take questions from the audience at the Apple Store, Regent Street in London. (See THE SOCIAL NETWORK at cinemas across the UK from October 15).

Unclear mixing of fact and fiction

The comments from David Fincher about how Facebook was created (talking about the film's story), he mentions that Mark has a break up with a girl at the beginning and goes back to his dorm and starts coding, and that it's his social awkwardness that acts as inspiration to create Facebook. He doesn't distinguish at any point that the things he's talking about is a work of fiction, and talks about it numerous times as if it is the real story... which it isn't.

For those that aren't aware, Mark has the same girlfriend he was dating from before he made Facebook, the girl at the beginning of the movie never existed, and his motivation to create Facebook was that he wanted to invent something, nothing so sinister as getting vengeance on an ex-girlfriend.
