Picard controls the sky man!

A very witty and satorical look back on Star Trek: The Next Generation by one of it's stars, Wil Wheaton. Despte playing the much despised Wesely Crusher, Wheaton has the maturity and good humour to look back upon his experiences, lampoon them and remeber them fondly giving us an insight to what it must have been like to work on that wonderful show. An excellent podcast that all Trek fans should enjoy. Based on the book by the same author: Memories of the Future.

Time to breathe out and smile

Wil as a writer and a narrator does with the honesty, passion and joy what can easily be lost in a podcasting process. He seems to only releases podcasts when he has something to share or something to say and it’s refreshing to hear a show that actually sounds like you’re sat down with a close friend, chewing the fat, whilst Wil takes his turn in the pace of conversation. There are great podcasts out there where people will rave passionately(one sided) about what ‘they’ are interested in or who can take a didactic route that, though you share the interest, leaves you feeling like you been talked at rather than with. With Wil Wheaton though talks like there’s a dialogue of which we are all part of and he’s just having his say. It’s nice to hear that professional yet warm style applied to his take on Trek. Wil Wheaton gushing about a topic that’s a part of his personal make up as is his favourite beer or the latest game he’s interested in, and this come across is these broadcasts. It’d easy and a little lazy to say I am a geek coming together and that is why will get such a great response from these. Yes the 30 something’s who initially come to the Futurecasts may have similar passions, similar ideas and even similar worries. However, these podcasts are a fun and honest dialogues open to all generations, which end far too quickly and stay with you throughout the day. Take a few minutes out your life to pause, breathe out and listen to a great personal take on an iconic TV show, you’ll be glad you did.

Make a note: GREAT SUCCESS!

Does exactly what it says on the ... err ... website. Both more and less than an audiobook of Memories of the Future, there are lots of little parenthetical notes in amongst the book extracts: extra notes that didn't even make it into the book. Wheaton's sense of humour and turn of phrase are both neat and amusing. Really brightens my day!
