Podcast Description
Starting March 2009, after an epic false start, I began recording my first album-sized body of work. In the last 9 months I've recorded, gigged and recorded some more. This, my first podcast, represents a small selection of moments from this musical journey. Here you will find live recordings, demos, cover versions, and a whole load of other curiosities from this era. A lot of these recordings are unapologetically rougher than final album mixes, which is partly why I named this series NO/EXCUSES; their roughness is part of the moment captured and something I'll stand by. These moments document my time around the album, rather than the album itself. NO/EXCUSES stands next to it's bigger, full album sibling. For those of you who've seen me live in the last 18 months, much of the material will be familiar. For those who haven't, this will serve as an introduction to what went on during the 08/09 live dates. As the podcast progresses, I hope to use it as a means to deliver fresh material, new songs, and whatever else happens. Initially though, I'll start by clearing the decks a bit. For better or worse, this is me with my guard down. NO/EXCUSES.

That You'll Never Know (Live At Unit 58) | This song has been around pretty much since I started considering myself a solo artist some four years ago. Those of you who've seen me live during 2008/09 will almost certainly have heard this before. Really keen observers may even remember an incredibly rough home demo that was doing the rounds on Myspace. If you do remember that racket, then I can only apologize... This version was recorded as part of a live-in-session type thing that was held at Unit 58 Studios, Tamworth. This is pretty much the live version from the 08/09 dates with better sound. Like everything from that era, it's a solo acoustic performance; me and a guitar. Like everything else from the day, this was definitely a one-take deal. Big thanks to Chris Field and Ben Lloyd for making this happen, and of course Nick Redford for continually letting me get away with all this...
