Tosche Station Radio – Episode 17 | On this week’s episode of Tosche Station Radio, Nanci and Brian kick off their summer retrospective of the X-Wing series. Starting off the show, the hosts highlight what’s new on the blog. Maggie wrote a column analyzing Natasha Romanoff’s role in The Avengers. Gorram Girl sent in the first entry for the Replace the Catsuit contest. In this week’s Twitter list, we asked you to tell us who your favorite non-Force sensitive Expanded Universe characters are. Nanci also implores you all to read the Mageworlds books. Fixer’s Flash shows us that Nanci has been busy enjoying fandom. She caught the first installment of this year’s Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Somewhere in there, she also managed to finish the Mageworlds novels. Suffice to say, she loved it. Meanwhile, Brian went and saw The Avengers. For the fourth and fifth time. He’s also getting set to travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Origins Game Fair where long-time EU legend Aaron Allston is the guest of honor. In Deak’s Dirt, the hosts talk about the Bioware staff layoffs and the struggles of The Old Republic. They also spend a bit of time geeking out over SpaceX’s successful launch earlier this week. Brian discusses the latest statements from Rick McCallum about the live-action Star Wars television series, suggesting that maybe they need to scale back on the special effects and visuals to get the show into production. Finally, both the hosts are thrilled that Palpatine himself, Ian McDiarmid, will be in attendance at Celebration VI. For Camie’s Concerns, the hosts kick off a summer series for both the blogs and podcasts: a look back at the X-Wing novels. Both Brian and Nanci feel that these books are perhaps the most misunderstood in the whole Expanded Universe, so this week they’re tackling some misconceptions and putting together a spoiler-free case to convince you to read them before the long-awaited tenth novel hits bookshelves this August. Moving into Wormie’s Works, Nanci highlights a fanfiction contest and Brian gushes about a gypsy jazz cover of one of our favorite Star Wars tunes. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: The Star Wars Book Report fanfiction contest Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: The Cantina Theme by the Courtyard Kings Rounding out the show, the hosts answer questions from listeners and talk about the Trope of the Week: Depending on the Writer. Tosche Station Radio is the official podcast of Tosche-Station.net and a part of the Solo Sound network. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 16 | After a brief one-week vacation, Nanci and Brian are back with an all-new episode of Tosche Station Radio. The hosts kick off by highlighting what's new on the blog since our last audio check-in. Emily wrote a column looking into why Star Wars needs women more than ever. Nanci discussed why we love Star Wars, and as hard as it is to believe, it's more than just the lightsabers and explosions. Shane started up his retro review of Kevin J. Anderson's Daarksaber. We asked you for your Star Wars Avengers. Finally, Brian checked in with his latest column that investigates how The Legend of Korra is taking down gender stereotypes and the lessons Star Wars can draw from it. Over in Fixer's Flash, both Nanci and Brian have seen the Avengers (Brian several times now). Both the hosts now want some shawarma as a result. Nanci has been reading through the Mageworld series, and from the sounds of it, she recommends it highly. She also has been working on her original novel and is posting excerpts over at her blog. Brian has finally gotten around to reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. Of course, he's still reading Marvel comics and trying to catch up with his friends, but he took some time out to see Dark Shadows. It's exactly what you should expect from a Tim Burton movie that's remaking a 70s soap opera about a vampire. Deak's Dirt covers a lot of ground this week, starting off by talking about the 10th anniversary of Attack of the Clones. Timothy Zahn's The Icarus Hunt is coming to ebook form, and both of the hosts strongly encourage you to pick it up. Celebrities aplenty have been confirmed for Celebration VI and Her Universe has been teasing all sorts of neat new products you can pick up there. In EU news, don't forget to check out the entire second chapter from Scoundrels. On a down note, Lucasfilm laid off the wonderful Bonnie Burton. The hosts are bummed. This week's Camie's Concerns delves into the topic of women in science fiction and fantasy. To help with the topic, the hosts have brought in Emily, one of the blog's writer's and the designated Wielder of the Red Pen. Nanci, Brian, and Emily discuss some of the great female characters in film, television, books, and comics. Brian even enlists the help of his so-called Comic Spirit Guide to assist. For Wormie's Works, Nanci highlights some fanart and Brian links to one of the biggest Star Wars games you’ll ever find. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: No Light No Light and In Other Words, I Love You by RedHandedJill44 Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: Fleet Commander by Arthur Nisimoto Wrapping up the show, the hosts field some questions from listeners and highlight the trope of the week: Retcons. Tosche Station Radio is the official podcast of Tosche-Station.net and a part of the Solo Sound network. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 15 | This week on Tosche Station Radio, we’re excited to feature our first ever interview on the show. Kicking off the show, we highlight what’s new on the blog. We asked you to tell us what kind of attractions you would like to see at a Star Wars theme park and you delivered some delightful suggestions. New blogger Maggie posted a spoiler-free review of the Avengers, Marvel’s latest entry into their successful film franchise. We’re not jealous that she was in the UK to see it a week early or anything. Meanwhile, we’re holding a contest. We’re sick of Mara’s awful catsuit, so we’re asking costumers and artists to replace it with something more appropriate. In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been reading a neat young-adult novel called Across the Universe and is looking forward to completing the series. She’s also been rewatching firefly, something Brian ought to do. She also announced that she’s launched a new blog of her own devoted to her writing projects. Go check it out! Brian’s been keeping himself busy with Marvel’s comics and a rewatch of their films leading up to the Avengers. Unfortunately, he’s been too busy with midterms to do much beyond that. Boo midterms. Over in Deak’s Dirt, the hosts talk about their jealousy over Disneyland Paris getting a big Star Wars themed expansion. Build one in Orlando! The Avengers releases this Friday, and if you guessed Brian already has tickets to two different showings, you would be correct. Her Universe has teased some new products that Nanci is excited about, expect an official announcement soon. In sad news, Joel Goldsmith, composer for the Stargate franchise, passed away at 54. John Jackson Miller tweeted that a Secret Project presumably from Dark Horse will be announced soon. Could it be the original trilogy era project Dark Horse hinted at during C2E2? Toymaker Sideshow introduced a new line of Star Wars statues they dub ‘Mythos.’ Finally, Star Wars Books released a teaser for the upcoming Timothy Zahn novel ‘Scoundrels.’ This week’s Camie’s Concerns is one the hosts are thrilled to present. Tosche Station Radio interviews their first ever guest, author Michael A. Stackpole. Mike and the hosts talk about his contributions to the Star Wars Universe, writing advice such as his 21 Days to a Novel program, and his projects outside of the Galaxy Far, Far away. We’re incredibly grateful Mike took the time to come onto the show and encourage you to check out his other works at his website. Also a big thank you to EUCantina's Erin Amos for setting up the interview. The interview with Mike starts at the 15:23 mark. Wormie’s Works features a couple unique entries, a fanfiction marathon and a fandom-based music production. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: Skyway Flyer by Jason Munday and the Oceanic Six. Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: The Rogue and Wraith Squadron Fic-A-Thon The hosts close out the show with the Trope of the Week: Fate Worse Than Death Tosche Station Radio is the official podcast of Tosche-Station.net and a part of the Solo Sound network. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 14 | We've been promising it for a while and we're finally giving it to you: our look back on Fate of the Jedi! Be warned, THIS EPISODE CONTAINS NUMEROUS SPOILERS FOR APOCALYPSE AND THE SERIES AS A WHOLE. Brian and Nanci kick off the show by highlighting what’s new on the blog this week. We asked for your dream Star Wars EU novels on Twitter, and you delivered. Shane explained why Ewoks are nightmare fuel. Brian discussed the double standard between sports and geek fandom. We’ve also got a new review looking at the horror film Cabin in the Woods. Finally, we looked back at those awesome Micro Machines Action Fleet toys. In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been enjoying Once Upon a Time and has gotten knee-deep into a brand new book. She also finished Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse and does she ever have thoughts about the book. Brian delves into a little more detail about Cabin in the Woods and gushed about it*. *Which is saying something since he’s the world’s biggest horror movie wimp. Deak’s Dirt starts out with the news that Lionsgate Studios has officially named Francis Lawrence the director for Catching Fire, sequel to the blockbuster Hunger Games. Jason Fry has released more end notes from Essential Guide to Warfare. In other EU news, Scourge by Jeff Grubb hit bookshelves this week. Nanci’s already got her copy waiting on her Kindle. Meanwhile, The Old Republic appears to be losing subscribers. This week in Camie’s Concerns, the hosts finally dive into their Fate of the Jedi retrospective. As with every bit of the EU, there’s some elements they loved and elements they didn’t. Both Brian and Nanci greatly appreciated the efforts that went into crafting several new characters, but they also take issue with multiple loose ends and philosophical concepts that seem at odds with the source material. Wormie’s Works features some beautiful Star Wars fanart and a brilliant audio drama. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: The fanart of FalconFan Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: Star Wars: In the Shadows Brian and Nanci wrap up the show with the Trope of the Week : Hold your Hippogriffs Tosche Station Radio is the official podcast of Tosche-Station.net and a part of the Solo Sound network. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 13 | Sometimes we as fans can afford to behave better. This week we delve into some behavior we can all learn how to prevent to be better stewards of our fandoms. Starting off the show, Nanci and Brian highlight some new articles up at the official blog. Shane’s got a look at what Scoundrels could mean for the Expanded Universe moving forward. Brian posted his retrospective of Fate of the Jedi and looked back at a history of questionable Star Wars video games. Emily (newest writer and Shane’s better half) had an academic look at fan fiction. Be sure to also check out Nanci’s latest for EUCantina, her retro review of Survivor’s Quest. Over in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci talks about the latest movie she caught in theaters: Wrath of the Titans. Verdict? Not that great. She’s also started reading Apocalypse, the last entry in the Fate of the Jedi series. Brian’s still wrapped up in the Marvel universe, but managed to take some time off to meet up with a longtime fandom friend. Some of the best people you’ll ever meet will come through fandom. Both of the hosts were featured on the Star Wars Book Report podcast.* *We’re so sorry for all the tangents. So. So sorry. Deak’s Dirt covers a lot of ground this week. Gary Ross out as the director of Catching Fire? J.K. Rowling’s upcoming adult novel gets a name and she’s working on a Potter encyclopedia. Anthony Daniels confirmed a sequel to the Padawan Menace is forthcoming. Over at C2E2, Dark Horse announced a new OT-era project is in the works written by one of Dark Horse’s biggest talents. Let the speculation begin! John Jackson Miller’s Lost Tribe of the Sith will be getting a new trade paperback format as well as brand new maps! This week in Camie’s Concerns, the hosts talk about an io9 article entitled the 10 Ways Self-Hating Fans Make Genre Entertainment Worse. Now there’s an inflammatory title! Fandom is great, but sometimes we need to behave a little better than we do. The hosts delve into the article and discuss why it’s important to avoid these kinds of actions. Wormie’s Works features a pair of light, fun Star Wars alternate universe fics and an excellent multi-fandom cosplayer. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: Wake Up, Little Padawan and Padawannabe With Me by RebelMom (Fics are hosted at TFN, we’ll give you the links as soon as they’re back online) Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: Hexterah’s cosplay Before the show wraps up, Brian and Nanci field some questions from listeners and introduce the Trope of the Week: Red Shirts. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 12 | Fan creations are the on the minds of the hosts this week. Before getting into the show, Nanci and Brian announce that the Tosche Station blog is having a giveaway contest to celebrate going live. You can win one of two copies of the Essential Guide to Warfare! Details here, enter in both places to double your odds. Be sure to also check out the news, reviews, and columns at the new site. In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci went and saw Titanic in 3D and said it’s the best post-conversion 3D film out there. Of course, Brian’s a little more excited about the Prometheus trailer that showed before the movie started. Nanci is also (re)reading The Seasons of Passage and heartily recommends it. She also wrote a guest post over at Club Jade talking about fan fiction, a topic we’ll be visiting in today’s episode. In preparation for the Avengers next month, Brian has begun his Marvel films re-watch. More importantly, baseball season is back and he can geek out over advanced statistics! But something that will actually interest most listeners, Brian’s also posted the first part of his Fate of the Jedi series review over at the blog. Over in Deak’s Dirt, Nanci talks about the guests expected to attend Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood studios. Star Wars Books announced that there’s going to be a third Essential Guide to Characters in the future and are outlining it as we speak. In more adorable news, Jeffrey Brown’s Darth Vader and Son is due out on May 4th. Ashley Eckstein also teased that she’ll be revealing some new merchandise on the same day. Camie’s Concerns this week revisits the topic of fan fiction and aims to tackle misconceptions about it. With the release of 50 Shades of Grey, media attention has focused on small aspects of fanfic and Brian and Nanci want to set the record straight. They discuss a great article by Lev Grossman at Time Entertainment that discusses the importance of fan fiction both to fans and the fandom itself. Both the hosts discuss what draws them into fan fiction, why they write it, and how they’ve benefitted from it. The hosts then answer some questions from listeners. Remember, you can ask the hosts anything and they might answer it on a future podcast! Send us a tweet or leave us a message on Facebook. Finally in Wormie’s Works, Nanci highlights an NJO-era alternate universe fic featuring Luke, Mara, and Ben. Brian links to a light-hearted Wedge Antilles and Wes Janson fic. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: Lightsaber and Lullabies by Jedi-2B Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: Crack Shots by Otayoni Tosche Station Radio is the official podcast of Tosche-Station.net and a part of the Solo Sound network. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 11 | It’s a big, big week for Brian, Nanci, and Tosche Station Radio. The show kicks off with an announcement: TSR has a new official blog! Brian, Nanci, and mutual friend Shane have launched Tosche-Station.net, a new site where the staff will write and snark about the news and issues in geek culture. With a heavy dose of Star Wars, of course. We’d like to thank Roqoo Depot for being our home for the first ten episodes and their help in promoting the podcast. As you’re listening to this episode, hop on over to the new site and check out Shane’s snarky look back at Children of the Jedi and Brian’s review of Essential Guide to Warfare. Over in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s got a new reading obsession: the Mageworld series. She’s also been re-reading one of her favorite books, The Season of Passage. Look out, but she’s also released an April Fool’s Day fanfic based on Luke’s sordid love life. Brian was the guest on the Star Wars Underworld podcast this week where he talked about the Expanded Universe tying into The Clone Wars. A few days ago Brian finished up Marvel’s Civil War. Lesson: don’t get attached to any of these characters lest they break your heart. Both the hosts saw The Hunger Games for a second time and are considering a third viewing. Deak’s Dirt has a little bit of everything this week. First and foremost, Star Wars: Essential Guide to Warfare hit bookshelves this week. Verdict? Buy. Buy it now. James Arnold Taylor and Ashley Eckstein were announced to be the hosts of Star Wars Weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The hosts get had a laugh at Del Rey’s April Fool’s Day prank. They even got Tim Zahn to contribute. In actual EU news, Star Wars Books released sneak peeks of the Essential Reader’s Companion and an excerpt from Zahn’s highly anticipated novel Scoundrels. In Camie’s Concerns, the hosts take a look at how authors have impacted the Expanded Universe. Among the authors examined are Timothy Zahn, Kevin J. Anderson, Michael A. Stackpole, Aaron Allston, Karen Traviss, John Ostrander and Jan Duursema, Drew Karpyshyn, and Troy Denning. Shaping the EU can be a good thing, but is it possible to go too far? Brian and Nanci aim to answer that question. The hosts highlight another pair of fanfics this week on Wormie’s Works. Nanci’s pick is an AU Luke and Mara vignette and Brian’s is a Marauder’s era Harry Potter fic. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: A Simple Twist of Fate by GabriJade Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: Unintended Emotional Crimes by Ria Tosche Station Radio is the official podcast of Tosche-Station.net and a part of the Solo Sound network. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 10 | It's a trope! Things get meta this week on Tosche Station Radio as Brian and Nanci dive into some of the great literary devices and themes that define Star Wars. First up on Fixer's Flash, Nanci plugs a Clone Wars season four roundtable she participated on over at Club Jade. She also got a glimpse at the upcoming Essential Guide to Warfare, which made Brian very jealous. Brian, on the other hand, is back into reading Marvel's Civil War comics and is waiting for things to go horribly, horribly wrong with all of the characters he has grown fond of. He also admits he's a sucker for musicals. Both the hosts briefly discuss some fanfiction projects that they're in the process of wrapping up. Deak's Dirt is very much a multi-fandom affair this week. First on the docket is news of Timothy Zahn's upcoming Han Solo novel finally getting a name: Scoundrels. If you heard a loud noise from the direction of Seattle over the weekend, it's because Avatar: The Legend of Korra hit the web early with a pair of episodes. Brian's particularly excited about the lead character, thinking she might be emerging on the entertainment scene at just the perfect time. Last, but certainly not least, The Hunger Games debuted over the weekend to the tune of $152 million, the third biggest opening weekend release of all time and the biggest gross for a non-sequel film. Take that, Twilight. This week's discussion topic on Camie's Concerns revolves around one of Brian's favorite websites in the entire universe, TV Tropes. What are tropes you might ask? They're familiar devices and conventions we all see in the fiction and entertainment we enjoy. Nanci and Brian attack five notable tropes that have appeared in Star Wars and discuss some other fandoms these familiar and enjoyable themes have appeared in: Chronic Backstabbing Disorder Heterosexual Life Partners "The Reason You Suck" Speech The Ascended Extra The Big No Finally in Wormie's Works, Nanci highlights some wonderful fan music and Brian links us to a brief but brilliant Buffy the Vampire Slayer fic. Nanci's Pick for Fanwork of the Week: Alex Carpenter's Hunger Games CD, available on iTunes, Bandcamp, and YouTube Brian's Pick for Fanwork of the Week: Collapse by MiraxCorran Tosche Station is a part of the Solo Sound network and the official podcast of Roqoo Depot. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 9 | It’s a news-heavy week on Tosche Station Radio, but Brian and Nanci still have a discussion topic they’re eager to share. Kicking off the show in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci and Brian discuss the finale of The Clone Wars’ fourth season. Don’t look now, but Nanci might be shipping Obi-Wan and Asajj Ventress. Nanci has finished her re-read of Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and is jumping into At the Queen’s Command by Michael Stackpole. She’s also pretty enamored with the trailers for Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus. Last week Brian went and saw Disney’s John Carter and proclaims that it is decidedly okay-ish. He’s also still wrapped up in the Marvel comics universe, having jumped into Runaways. There’s a whole lot of news in Deak’s Dirt this week. First and foremost are new The Hunger Games clips that have aired ahead of the movie’s release on Friday. Brian’s really excited about The Legend of Korra getting an April premiere date. Meanwhile, Nanci’s giddy over Her Universe releasing a brand new Star Wars logo tote bag in May. Both of the hosts get ranty over some Expanded Universe tidbits that have slipped from the Fate of the Jedi book tour and interview blitz over the last week. On the other hand, both the hosts* are excited about a few details about the upcoming Timothy Zahn Han Solo novel. Finally, news dropped that Thursday 3/22 would bring a big Expanded Universe related announcement (announcements?). Let the wild mass guessing begin! *Particularly Brian. We’ll be sure to sedate him next week. In Camie’s Concerns, Brian and Nanci have noticed there’s going to be a dearth of new Star Wars related entertainment for a while. Solution? Offer up some non-Star Wars recommendations in television, film, comics, and books. The complete works of Joss Whedon gets a hearty rec from both hosts. Looking for a good book? Try The Icarus Hunt by legendary EU writer Timothy Zahn. Wormie’s Works features a pair of fanfics this week. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 8 | Brace yourselves, things get silly in this episode of Tosche Station Radio Over in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci reveals she finally has a name for her new ride: The Starry Ice. Nerd cred there for naming it after an EU starship! Brian’s knee-deep in Marvel’s Civil War comics, which he’s been warned will make him cry.* He’s also planning on seeing John Carter after the recording, but we’re happy we managed to peel him away from Mass Effect 3 long enough to get an episode in. *Not that this is anything new. Deak’s Dirt reminds us that March 10th marked the 15th anniversary of a show both Brian and Nanci adore, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Go launch up Netflix and give it a watch if you haven’t seen it. In Star Wars news, Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse hit shelves on Tuesday bringing the series to a conclusion. Brian gives his general thoughts on the books, but if you’re interested in more (spoiler-filled) details, head on over to check out his review at Roqoo Depot. Finally, it was announced Celebration VI has hosts! Pablo Hidalgo and David Collins will join primary host James Arnold Taylor in leading the festivities This week’s Camie’s Concerns promises to be absurdly fun as the hosts talk head-canon, fanfiction, and alternate universes. Be forewarned, at one point Brian gets his Lady Gaga on. Sometimes fans have to reconcile bizarre things in fandom, and that’s where head-canon comes into play. Nanci and Brian have theories on how certain things in Star Wars played out. It makes sense in our heads, honest! From there, the hosts talk fanfiction, a topic near and dear to both of them. They briefly discuss a Time Magazine article on the subject before diving into an article written by prolific Expanded Universe author Aaron Alston. Nanci and Brian also talk about the reasons they personally enjoy reading and writing fanfic. Finally, they touch the taboo subject of alternate universes in Star Wars. As it turns out, both hosts have come around to the idea. In Wormie’s Works, Nanci highlights a fun video project and Brian gushes about a Rogue Squadron themed Tumblr site he loves to pieces and then some. The winner of the FotJ: Apocalypse giveaway is also announced. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 7 | In this week’s edition of Tosche Station Radio, Brian and Nanci get a bit ranty with the news and discuss what they would love to see in the post Fate of the Jedi Expanded Universe. Starting off the show in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci is re-reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and gives Brian a hard time for not having read it. She’s also looking for help naming her new car, but apparently Lady Luck is out of the question. How about the Wild Karrde? Brian is still trapped in the Marvel universe, having read through the House of M and diving into the Young Jedi Knights of the Marvel-verse, the Young Avengers. He also has a bit of trouble containing his excitement for Tuesday’s release of Mass Effect 3. Over in Deak’s Dirt, the hosts take a few minutes to reflect on the career of Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 82. New Expanded Universe news is covered, including Drew Karpyshyn’s newest The Old Republic novel and a release window for Timothy Zahn’s upcoming Han Solo book. Brian then dives into the latest controversy in the Star Wars fandom, Simon Pegg’s guest role as Dengar. Suffice to say, he’s disappointed with the way fans reacted to the news. Nanci is also feeling fiery over the cancellation of the Nomi Sunrider novel and the underuse of female characters in the Expanded Universe. In Camie’s Concerns, the hosts follow up last week’s discussion by talking about what kind of books they would like to see in the post-Fate of the Jedi era. Rogues! Fels! New characters! A focus on non-Jedi characters! With the megaseries concept coming to an end, Brian and Nanci think that now is the perfect time to branch out and explore new parts of the universe. Finally in Wormie’s Works, Nanci highlights an alternate universe Star Wars EU vignette and Brian talks about the Obscure Character Cosplay Tumblr. Nanci’s choice for fanwork of the week: A Thin Veil by ginchy_amanda Brian’s choice for fanwork of the week: The Obscure Character Cosplay Tumblr And a special announcement! We have in our possession a copy of Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse that has been signed by Troy Denning, Christie Golden, and Aaron Allston. We’re giving it away! But there’s a catch. You’ve got to link us to some sort of interesting Star Wars fanwork that you’ve done. It can be fanfiction, fanart, costumes, or props. Anything that shows off your creativity! One lucky winner will be featured on next week’s episode during Wormie’s Works and will receive our signed copy of Apocalypse. Thanks to Roqoo Depot for providing the prize. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 6 | In this week’s episode of Tosche Station Radio, Nanci and Brian explore the tales beyond the Star Wars films by diving into the Expanded Universe. Over in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci lets us know that the latest episode of The Clone Wars left her fending off nightmares. Zombie Nightsisters? Now there’s some nightmare fuel. She even manages to slip in some talk of the Academy Awards before admitting to her newest guilty pleasure TV show. Brian has dived headfirst back into the world of comics. In preparation for Marvel’s newest movie due out in May, he’s familiarizing himself with the Avengers mythos. The hosts talk briefly about a guest spot they did on another podcast (and friend of the show), The Star Wars Book Report. Deak’s Dirt discusses the announcement of a brand new adult novel by J.K. Rowling. While Brian has some reservations, he’s thrilled to see Rowling return to the world of fiction to pen something entirely new. Tim Zahn also dropped a few details on his new book. Han Solo plus an Ocean’s Eleven style heist caper? Here’s our wallets, Del Rey. Finally, Star Wars Books released an extended preview of Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse, the conclusion of the 9-book series. This week’s Camie’s Concerns looks into a topic that’s near and dear to both the hosts: the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Going off an article Brian wrote for Roqoo Depot, the hosts provide a roadmap of the post-Return of the Jedi EU. There’s a lot of books to read, but just where does a new reader start? What books are important? Brian and Nanci answer those questions and more. Also discussed are the highlights of the EU in other eras, including the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy. Comics and even video games are also recommended. In Wormie’s Works, Nanci highlights a pair of Star Wars novella-length fanfics and Brian gushes about the first non-Star Wars pick on the podcast: an alternate universe Harry Potter fic set during the Marauders era. Nanci’s pick for fanwork(s) of the week: What Choices Remain and Circle of Light by Jedi Trace and rhonderoo Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: All These Complications by Ria Tosche Station is a part of the Solo Sound network and the official podcast of Roqoo Depot. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 5 | Things get dark on this week’s installment of Tosche Station Radio as Nanci and Brian delve into the Dark Side and discuss their favorite villains in science fiction and fantasy. To kick off the show in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci plugs the article she wrote for Valentine’s Day, a soul-crushing look into romances in Star Wars that ended in utter tragedy. Can you feel the love tonight or is that just us? Brian talks briefly about an article he wrote over at Roqoo Depot that skips the romantic subplot all together and delves into the relationships that really matter: bromances*. Speaking of Roqoo Depot, the hosts congratulate them on their one-year anniversary and commend them for somehow managing to survive giving Brian a writing gig. *It was somewhat legen-wait for it** **dary. Deak’s Dirt hits on three new pieces of Star Wars related news. First on the docket is The Phantom Menace 3D’s faring at the box office, pulling a very respectable fourth-place finish. Star Wars Books also announced on their Facebook page that Jason Fry will be joining Aaron Allston, Troy Denning, Drew Karpyshyn, James Luceno, John Jackson Miller, and Timothy Zahn at Celebration VI. The hosts talk about the latest bit of Clone Wars news. Darth Maul is back! And will be voiced by fan favorite Sam Witwer! Finally, the wonderful Ashley Eckstein of Clone Wars fame announced that her company Her Universe will be making a Mara Jade shirt. Nanci's quite excited about that. Heading into Camie’s Concerns, the hosts talk about their favorite villains in science fiction and fantasy. The X-Files and Battlestar Galactica get some love, but the best is saved for last and a number of our favorite Star Wars and Expanded Universe characters emerge at the top of the list. Who shows up at number one overall? You’ll have to listen to find out. Rounding out the show in Wormie’s Works, Nanci and Brian highlight another pair of fanfics that have caught their eye. Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: Shadowed Reflection by deaka/Knight Aragorn Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: An Affair to Forget by CarrKicksDoor Tosche Station is a part of the Solo Sound network and the official podcast of Roqoo Depot. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 4 | Spoiler alerts! There are two sets of Hunger Games Trilogy spoilers from 11:43 to 19:18 and 1:09:04 to 1:14:37. It’s a very special episode of Tosche Station Radio! To celebrate Valentine’s Day, hosts Nanci and Brian take a look at some of their favorite (and least favorite) ‘ships in Star Wars and other fandoms. And we don’t mean the flying kind of ship. In Fixer’s Flash, the hosts talk about The Phantom Menace in 3D and discuss whether or not the conversion process worked. In addition, it looks like both Nanci and Brian have finally finished The Hunger Games trilogy and offer up their thoughts on the conclusion of a series that’s put them through the emotional wringer.* *Mostly Brian. This surprises no one. For Deak’s Dirt, Brian talks about a recent R.A.Salvatore question-and-answer session in which he says that killing Chewbacca in Vector Prime is the only thing he regrets. Brian gets a bit ranty and says that something needs to change in the Expanded Universe as far as killing off characters goes. Nanci’s also feeling a bit of rage over the revelation that Hasbro is thinking about making a new Mara Jade-Skywalker action figure that sports the dreaded catsuit. Heading into Camie’s Concerns, Nanci and Brian talk about various romantic relationships in the realm of science fiction and fantasy. Couples from Star Wars, The X-Files, the Whedonverse, Battlestar Galactica are discussed. Nanci even dives in to gush about Lois and Clark*. *Now there’s a show you haven’t thought about since the 90s! For Wormie’s Works, the hosts have a pair of fanfics to link to this week: Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: Echoes of Always by Ginchy Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: The X-Wing Files by LoriLynn Tosche Station is a part of the Solo Sound network and the official podcast of Roqoo Depot. Tosche Station Radio – Episode 3 | The hosts cover a lot of ground in today’s episode! In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci talks about the fun she had on Sunday watching the biggest event of the sports year. That’s right, the Puppy Bowl! She also talks about her guest-spot on fellow Solo Sound podcast We Talk Clones. Both hosts talk about their further adventures with the Hunger Games trilogy*. Brian briefly discusses Haywire, a fun and exciting action/chase movie featuring a soundtrack he seemed to greatly enjoy. In news that surprises no one, he also gushed about the Avengers trailer that aired during the Superbowl. *By which we mean we talk about how they made Brian cry. A lot. Over in Deak’s Dirt, the hosts tackle the latest crazy rumor about the live-action Star Wars series. Time travel? To say Nanci and Brian are skeptical would be an understatement. For Camie’s Concerns, the hosts take a look back at The Phantom Menace. Nanci feels old when Brian says he was only ten when it came out. Both reflect on where they were and their memories of the hype leading up to the first installment of the prequel trilogy. Of course, it’s not an episode unless one of the hosts gets ranty. Brian stops the show to highlight a ClubJade article that calls out Superfans and the lack of civility in the Star Wars fandom. He takes both sides of the usual arguments to task. In the second-half of Camie’s Concerns, Brian and Nanci talk what non-Star Wars entertainment they’re looking forward to this year. It’s also revealed that both will be responsible for the end of Western civilization as we know it when they meet up in person for three weeks to go to Celebration VI and Dragon Con. Wormie’s Works highlights two more great pieces of fanwork: Nanci’s pick for fanwork of the week: Iverna’s fanart, covers, and commissions Brian’s pick for fanwork of the week: Above the Line of Fire by Mirax_Corran, a Rogue Squadron origin story Tosche Station is a part of the Solo Sound network and the official podcast of Roqoo Depot. We aim to be your home for all things Star Wars and geek culture. In this installment, hosts Brian and Nanci pat themselves on the back for making it episode two, proclaiming the show is now “a thing.” Right off the bat we talk about a pair of new releases in the world of Star Wars books, Darth Plagueis and the Haynes Millennium Falcon Owner’s Workshop Manual. Nanci talks about her article examining the effect of the prequel films on the Expanded Universe and dives into FSL Tonight, a delightful mashup of sports and fandom. Meanwhile, Brian rants about the lack of sales metrics in print literature*. Both of us take a few minutes to gush about the latest book we’ve read, The Hunger Games. *Really. We tried to stop him. We’re so sorry. Next up we take a look at death in the Expanded Universe, examining six instances where death worked and six instances where it left us grumbling. Be warned, the hosts are feelin’ ranty today! Closing out the episode, Brian and Nanci highlight their picks for fanworks of the week: Nanci’s featured fanwork pick: Lord Vader’s Limpet by frodogenic Brian’s featured fanwork pick: Rob’s replica speeder bike handle lightsaber from I, Jedi. We waste no time jumping in and talking Red Tails as well as attempting to be the soothing voice of reason in the latest Star Wars fandom scrum, George Lucas’ retirement from blockbuster films. In addition, we pine for a Rogue Squadron TV show and Brian professes his undying love for Joss Whedon.* *Hyperbole. Somewhat. We also take a look back at 2011 in Star Wars, recapping the best in Expanded Universe novels as well as fan conventions and gatherings. Time is also taken to poke fun at Brian’s complete inability to recognize celebrities when they’re sitting right in front of him.
