Podcast Description
A humorous look at the Open Source community from comments on social networks, peoples blogs and websites to the mad bag lady on the street corner. Some if not everything said here is probably the fiction of our warped minds so there’s little point in getting upset about anything we say.

ExplicitFOSDEM 2012 | This episode is about Matt’s expedition to the dark and mysterious land of Belgium to drink beer and freeze his todger off. Marvel at his prowess negotiating transport services, gasp as he sneers at the snow by wearing nothing more than a tee shirt and some moisturiser, swoon as he relays the wondrous talks he attended on day one. We hear about the *Drama* of the naked lady in one of the talks which ends up in a typical free fall conversation where the team tread on every eggshell imaginable including sexism, racism and taking drugs live on air. We finish up the show hearing how Matt nearly fell foul of the UK customs simply for trying to help his country plus his intention to go back next year with plans to get Pete there possibly inside a large brown envelope. ExplicitCaptain Sparrow's Son | So here is the second show of 2012 and it’s a fun packed load of old twaddle as usual. Pete shows that he is clearly a professional podcaster now by completing three, yes three segways during the random chat section. Matt tells us all about his new found love for NginX and how it thumbs it’s nose at Apache. The team also discuss Ubuntu TV which Canonical deliberately delayed till after EP18 so that TDTRS didn’t get a scoop on other podcasts. The main topic this episode is “The Blackout Effect” discussing what, if any, effect people and wikipedia’s blacking out of their websites had on the SOPA protests. Finally Matt and Pete in an effort to push glue up hill wade their way through the fifty two paragraph feedback emails that was sent in. And in the closing minutes Matt tells us some worrying news about EP20! What can it be? Oh god I have to listen now! ExplicitChat roulette. | ♫ ♪ “The boys are back in town, the boys are back in town.” ♬ ♩ Yes, Matt and Pete return from their Crimble break stuffed full of chocolates and tangerines. The team tell us about the gifts Santa delivered and how one of them does like a nice pair of comfy slippers. Pete tells us about his dog Archie and his visit to the vets (Not for the faint hearted) while Matt is totally confused as to why it’s in the show. We hear how one of the co-hosts will be signing autographs at FOSDEM while the other will be sat eating cold bake beans in front of a candle. Matt makes a slight mistake and links to the wrong G+ post (This is not facebook.) where Pete gets all passionate about ‘Contributing’ (Pete’s rant) The subject on everyone’s lips at the moment is SOPA and the guy’s offer this up for discussion in Room x1101. The main topic this episode is “Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Arch, Debian, Fedora - How much does it all matter?” the guys come up with a brilliant idea for a definitive Linux distribution and Pete actually teaches Matt something for a change! Matt gets to uphold his firm belief in openness and lays the TDTRS accounts open to scrutiny by the community revealing the amount of dosh that’s been donated to date. ExplicitSanta's second choice. | Tis the season to be jolly and the team are full of it! This episode we are joined by NYbill moderator for the Linux Outlaws forum, American (it’s not his fault) and all round good guy plus as a bonus his lovely wife wishes The Dick Turpin Road Show a Merry Christmas at the start. We hear what the guys have done to give their hiding places that Christmas spirit, Matt and Bill talk about their new laptops and Pete is still going on about his parking fine. Given it’s Christmas there’s a brass band interlude and the main discussion is about shops. For some strange reason the feed back section still has it’s music even though there is no feedback? Explicit"Look mum no hands." | Filled with over confidence encouraged by the awesome new sound quality achieved by the team Pete makes a complete balls up of the intro. Matt tells us how to browse the net in secret and put the blame on Amazon and we hear how you can get clean for a few dollars. Given that tdtrs is not a democracy the guys decide to drop room x1101 again this episode so that Matt can spend more time telling us about his new toy far too enthusiastically for a grown man. After ensuring there will never be an invite to the land of Oz the team call into question the gender of the author of some feedback due in part to the polite tone of it. ExplicitMy mate RMS | Finally the episode you’ve all been waiting for, the one where you can actually hear what Matt is saying! Yes, finally Matt is no longer using his laptop microphone and he sounds awesome! Yet again there is semi nudity amongst the team and we worry about the drugs den downstairs, Pete reveals how he used to be a Hell’s Angel and once owned a beast of a moped and for the main topic Matt tells us about about his date with Richard Stallman and cleverly draws Pete in to the Freedom fold by telling him about ‘Public Domain’. We have some excellent feedback which takes up a large portion of the show but well worth the effort. And Pete struggles to fathom out who donated what via flattr but refuses to let Matt open a browser. ExplicitHappy Birthday Mrs C | It’s a special episode this week dedicated to Matt’s mum on her birthday. The team yet again apologise for stealing two hours of peoples lives “I’ll never get that time back you know!” and promise to try and make it shorter. The subject of ‘My train set’ is discussed along with methods of managing distributions. Everything falls apart as the discussion moves to ‘Ice cream sandwich’ with facial recognition when we hear the hosts know fook all about it. Will the announcement of a five year support for Ubuntu LTS be an effective selling point? Convinced Mark Shuttleworth of Ubuntu listens to the show the team comes up with an awesome name Ubuntu 12.10 we then move onto why identi.ca is losing it’s original fan base, is it the current problems or is it that G+ is shiny? Room x1101 returns with topics of “Graphical boot loaders and “Netbook editions” suggested by Lincslug. Plus much, much more. We hear about Pete’s time at BarCamp Blackpool and how he attended three sessions that impressed him so much he has no clue who gave the talks or what they was called! Matt tells us about Bagmify an application similar to Sparkle Share that he has written and his hopes of making millions from it. The main topic is a passionate discussion of Apple and the passing of Steve Jobs. Closed minds need not apply. ExplicitTwo sweaty men. | This episode we find our intrepid hero’s sweltering under the famous blazing sun of the kingdom of Englishland. The team convincingly discusses the “Speed of light” story like some Oxford Don’s and pose the question “Should physics degree’s be handed back?” Listener Morten Juhl-Johansen Zolde-Fejer sends us a story about the anniversary of Libre Office but the guys take so long over repeating his name we nearly run out of time for the story. In what now appears to be a potential Arch Linux section we hear how Gnome 3.2.0 is available in Extra and that ArchBang 2011.10 is released. Finally to try and get the humour back in we have a little play with “Draw a stick man” which passes 5 minutes if your bored. Room x1101 returns with “Buzz words” with an interesting outcome. ExplicitCant get it back in. | It’s another big show this episode but the we blame identi.ca for that given the downtime they had while we recorded which was a hot topic for discussion. The team talks about the proposed sale of Yahoo and the unbelievable fact that people use alternatives to what most of us use until Pete gets bored. The royal “we” is used while talking about the Arch Linux announcement of a new iso. After much pleading and money changing hands Room x1101 makes a comeback and we finally see Matt in his true colours as he swears like that bloke down shopping centre armed with a bottle of Diamond White. While knocking back some Ginger Beer we are reminded that the 19th of September is “Talk like a pirate day”. For the main feature the team revisit the discussion they had in their very first podcast episode “Should we be paying for our Linux?” and possibly using Flattr and the FSF for that? In the closing section the team talk about Tinap and our mate AndyC’s hospitalisation “Get well Andy.” Freedom hating MP3 EP11.mp3 106.00MB Freedom loving OGG EP11.ogg 68.00MB Show Length: 01:56:16 Interlude music: Overjoy Dub by: PistONE Licensed under: art libre Pre x1101 music: Ma Poupée by: David TMX Licensed Under: CC-BY Room x1101 intro: The Sting by: Scott Joplin Licensed Under: Public Domain | 23 9 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitPurple pigeon pooh | After last weeks audio shambles the team are determined to get it right this week with varying levels of success, well at least we can hear Matt now. Pete muses the perceived demise of Identi.ca and the drop off of some regular posters and talks about how he has loosened up and let people enter his circle. Matt moans about companies offering goods on the cheap yet charging the earth for their consumables. Thank you very much for sending me my password in plain text. http://plaintextoffenders.com For the main topic the discussion turns to the announcement of Steve Jobs leaving Apple and what they will do now. ExplicitAre yours hot Bill? | This episode the intrepid duo are joined by NYbill Moderator for the Linux Outlaws forum and all round good guy even if he is a gun toting monkey. Matt reveals his secret liaisons with Linux community members and having slap up meals while generally wasting the shows GimickCoins on expensive evenings with Red Hat employees while Pete sits at home watching the clock. We hear the thoughts on virtual attendance of oggcamp from Bill and what it was like following events via identi.ca and Google+ (Even though Bill doesn’t use G+). The teams main discussion is a continuation of Lugs and how they work in America. We also hear how listeners such as Becky Newborough have got off their bums and done something about resurrecting their local lug. Yet again we hit the dreaded sound problems, we’ve cleaned it as best we can. Please struggle through and we’ll make it up to you all in EP10. P.S. Dirk Gently is cool. ExplicitOggCamp 2011 | The intrepid TDTRS team descend on OggCamp 2011 intent on doing very little least of all recording a show. Matt was accosted by long haired bearded geeks obviously with some mental disorder demanding we record a show. After much nashing of teeth we approached the Linux Outlaws and Ubuntu UK Podcast team and asked if they would mind if we did a show. Given Matt and Pete had no equipment with them The Community rallied round and scraped together Mic’s and recording devices. A very special thanks goes to biglesp who glided round unfazed by Pete’s demands for better rooms, numerous microphones and a basket of fresh dairy produce. While normally the show would be edited to make it easier on the ear we have decided to release the raw recording as a lot of fun things went on prior to Dan Lynch finally getting the main mixer desk to play nicely. ExplicitNon scattare fotografie. | Still ‘pumped’ from EP6 the team step up to the bar for EP7. A shorter show this time for reasons that will be revealed early on in the episode. In this release we hear how Matt is going camping in an effort to test his survival skills for OggCamp. Pete explains how he killed the feed for the show and yet doesn’t give us one of his pathetic apologies. We hear the thoughts on freetards and lusers and question all name calling is it a case of “The pot calling the kettle black?” Matt decides to pick a fight with community giant Bkuhn in the new section “I hate your blog” and Pete does his best to blame Matt and look as innocent as possible. Pete tells us how he went round The Pope’s house for tea and nearly got arrested. And an email from NYbill spawns a discussion on FOSS events both in the US and UK. ExplicitYou can put it in my hand | In an effort to worry other pocasts the dynamic duo shrug of threats of abuse about their hair and release episode 5. Always one to take the controversial path Pete announces that the team will cease to use Linux and follow the one true faith that is Eddie Stobart. The ongoing bickering between Tinap and tdtrs continues as we hear all about secretary’s and rival features. Matt finally manages to get a word in edgeways and talks about the fascinating subject of HDMI cables but of course gobby Pete cant resist doing an impression inside a well known UK computer store. Room x1101 finally has a proper sound effect although the team struggle to find items to discuss as the fan base are too bone idle to send suggestions in. Vegard is pretending to be ill and did not turn up for the recording so we fed his share of the cookies to my dog Archie. In this rip roaring release we see the guys try to pretend they have a running order and failing miserably. Pete lets slip his true feelings for ZenCart and Matt brags about meeting someone famous. We finally see the arrival of the much talked about room x1101 which nearly falls in on itself until the team heroically pull it back from the brink at the last minute, but are they really sure on what they decided?. Pete lowers the tone as per usual by threatening to turn his webcam on and Matt reaches for a man sized box of kleenex while reading the feedback emails.
