Customer Reviews
A bit pompous
This podcast rubbed me up the wrong way. When I want to listen to a podcast, I want to hear people talking about the latest games, not telling us how great they are because of their review technique, which I'm sure is a thinly veiled attack at the rest of the games media. Please keep the discussion points to games and not politics in future.
Eat your own DogFood
First of all, I really like eurogamer website. The reviews are consistently excellent and the articles interesting in content and style.
That said, I feel that the Eurogamer podcast leaves a lot to be desired. A comparison between this and the more established gaming podcasts out there, there is a huge gulf in terms of quality and content. To use IGN UK as an example, the chemistry that exists between the IGN presenters is really engaging, they are clearly having a great time and you feel like the dodgy bloke in the pub eavesdroping on someone else's conversation. Their podcast feels like an old jumper, warm and comforting.
With the eurogamer podcast, I get the impression that you all feel pretty awkward, and there are a number of jokes which obviously fall flat in the room; something that really doesn't translate well to the audience.
As one of my bosses would say, "Eat your own dogfood" - A suggestion might be to go and take a listen to at least the IGN UK and Gamespot UK podcasts for examples which 'feel' like more cohesive podcasts.
On the postive side, the length is fantastic (I personally hate 2 hour podcasts, it's mostly waffle), the levels are good, you clearly have interesting things to say (from the print site), and unlike a lot of the other people podcasting, you have proper access to games and developers - let's see more of that insight and commentary that we love from the website shine through in these discussions.
One final thing: the section 'what have you been playing' is great (and pretty standard these days, maybe even a cliche), but please, if you've been playing a pre-release game and can't say anything of note, perhaps best to not mention it? Just seems like showing off otherwise. (The non-commentary about BioShock 2 is a good example).
Anyway, looking forward to the future episodes as they are going in the right direction.
Hope that this feedback is seen as positive and constructive, as that's the way in which it's written.
PS: Insert tired old halo joke here.
(Based on listening to Episode 5)
Bad sound
I have no problem with the content. I love videogame discussion etc, but the recording quality of this is abysmal. It's like they're all sat round a single ambient mic which simply cannot deliver the consistency of volume that individual mic/headsets can. Please sort it out. I can't hear u above the din of London traffic!
