More than half the world’s population is literally dying to go to the loo. Improper disposal of human waste, contaminated water and poor hygiene practice causes over 80% of all disease in the developing world, resulting in the death of more than 5,000 children a day. Clean water and sanitation (rated as the greatest medical advance in the last 150 years) are at the heart of ALL development challenges. These issues also present important challenges in the UK, particularly in schools where sub- standard toilets put children off good toilet and hygiene practice. Following on from the successful Golden Poo Awards animation competition in 2009, PooP Creative are launching a national stand-up “toilet humour” comedy competition. Comedy is a powerful way to deliver messages and this competition will encourage a free and intelligent exploration of a subject that is very present and essential to life; something we all share; but that is very personal, very private and rarely discussed – it’s a profound human taboo...Poo!!
