Informative, funny, excellent. Two guys who talk about something they love doing, well spoken and draw you into the conversation. ( I actually joined in, only to find out I was talking to myself). If you fancy listening in on the pearls of wisdom these two have , what are you waiting for. I am officially a fanboy. Cant wait for the next one. Good work lads.

Review: Episode 14

The Obscurecast review

To start this review, I have to say I am very impressed. First impressions mean a lot for me, it’s the thing that first pulls you in and keeps you engaged. Gaz did this for me. Although I have to say the intro music is a bit lame, that’s not what this is about, it’s about Warcraft, and in that aspect, this show delivers.

I’m a big fan of TotalBiscuits Blue Plz! But anyone who comes here and tries to compare this show to The Obscurecast is a total douche; simple. The Obscurecast for me was a total different outlook, where as I love the ranty-ness, shouting and excitement you get from Blue Plz! I felt this was more of a chilled out approach.

To start, the information portrayed across by Gaz and Stu is spot on. There was also stuff brought in from the questions that Gaz had got from the week leading up to the show which I thought was great, the whole thing about “Will Cataclysm run on my pc?” shows that Gaz is able to implement his own news into a section that is initially about actual events. The news section was great overall, I felt compelled to listen on as each piece was went into greater depth than most usual podcasts. Most podcasts you find will do a news section, read it out, and be done with it. Gaz and Stu explored each piece into greater detail even going down into the depths of a whole new market of Micro Transactions and how they thought this could be implemented into WoW in the future with the new Next-Gen MMO coming out.

The quality of the show in general is quite good; you have to understand I am talking about the actual show and not the quality of the content within the show (from the above paragraph you should already realize the content is of a high and accurate standard). I know this is pretty pointless for future reference as Gaz mentioned that from the donations they have received they have bought new equipment including Microphones. But on the actual show itself this week, I felt the need to sometimes open my ears wider sort of speak for Stu as he has a poor quality microphone. Saying that it sounds as if his new one will be in use for next weeks show, so we will be able to hear both Stu and Gaz in a higher quality. On that note however I felt Gaz’s microphone was of good quality and I had no problems hearing him whatsoever.

They ended the show on a Q&A like many podcasts out there today. This had some interesting questions but as always the content and depth of answers is decided on the question itself. Gaz and Stu however answered all questions to a high standard and I feel they satisfied the people who asked them.

So, an overall performance for me is 4.5/5. The presenters manage themselves very well for it being a live show, and also are not afraid to hide their feelings. Many occasions throughout if they didn’t agree with a point or wanted to blurt out feelings they didn’t hold back, and I think that makes this even better. It shows that they are not afraid of critics and therefore welcome them with open arms by being as open and honest as possible. The only issue I had with this podcast was the poor quality of Stu’s microphone and that’s the only thing keeping it from being 5/5. I would recommend this to a more mature audience due to language being used (which I find awesome that you guys don’t play by the rules like many other podcasts out there) and also because it is a podcast remember, not a radio station so don’t expect music breaks or anything of that nature.

Final advice to The Obscurecast would be to possibly get interviews lined up with players of high experience in specific classes, and also to gain more listeners maybe change your day as many people won’t be able to listen at 9:00pm on raid reset day.
