Customer Reviews
Enjoyable busrides home.
Only just caught onto The Word podcasts despite buying the magazine for many years. Basically its like listening to your elder brother's best friends (the ones you used to listen to and frantically scratch down the names of bands they mentioned that you hadn't heard of because they KNEW music ). People who have actually seen Bob Marley at the Lyceum in 1975 and Pentangle in - whenever Pentangle were at their halceon phase;). Endlessly enjoyable especially on a bus ride home from work on a Friday night. Lads if you could make it a consistent 45 mins you'd fill my whole journey home. One last thing is Dave Hepworth the best living non-comedian with his use .....of ......pauses. Well maybe not, just a thought.
Fantastic Podcast
Word magazine is the best music publication in the world & this, its accomapnying podcast, is, if anything, even more enjoyable than the magazine. Ellen and Hepworth are as funny as the two old men in The Muppets Show as they look down on the worlds of music and entertainment & bang on and on and on. They have a series of occassional sidekicks, Andrew Harrison, Jude Rogers and Rob Fitzpatrick who chip in with news from the last 20 years or so which balances Ellen's preoccupation with all things Pentangle and Chicory Tip. My only complaint is that the EQ on the podcasts sometimes varies between episodes & Rob Fitzpatrick sits too far from the mic from time to time, both of which make it difficult for the older listener to hear all of the banter. So keep it going...but please speak up a little.
Wondrous whitterings
The joy of listening to Messrs Hepworth and Ellen expound on all things entertainment from the past century (or so it seems) is a joy to hear. Yes, we've all listened to or watched a lot of these events, bands, movies, etc, but these guys are true experts, who have first-hand, relevant information and can also make it sound interesting and funny. Long may The Word and these podcasts continue - after all, from who else could you divine that Bono smells of cigars? I rest my case!
