Not a masterpiece...

Ok, this is not a masterpiece - Behaviour is their best work so far - but it has many many many excellent moments. You should definetely give it a try!

is this or is this not their best work so far?

I think that the dilemma set on the title of this review gives a certain picture of the level of this album. Even if you are not a pethead (pet shop boys fan), you would agree that they are brilliant pop song makers. The melody lines are usually very strong and the lyrics are clever and very sarcastic most of the times. I must admit that since "Very", their albums had been unbalanced by the means of creating a strong whole of an album. But this one is the bright exception. Melodies are still strong, and the additional production by the Xenomania team makes their sound really fresh and updated. Johnny Marr's play is brilliant and tracks like "Beautiful People" and "Did you see me coming?" are transformed from simple pop songs to little diamonds. "Vulnerable" is a flash back to the mid 80's italo-disco sound, sensitive, introspective and dreamy. "More than a dream" and "Pandemonium" are ultimate pop explosions, while "Love etc." gets into your brain and gets you obsessed by the third or fourth time you listen to it. But the biggest surprise comes when you get to track 10. "The way it used to be" shows the way they should be. Unbelievable track, makes you wanna dance with your eyes closed, bringing you future memories and making you realize that pop can be really sophisticated if it is produced, performed and written by two talented guys in their mid fifties that have literally lived their lives to the maximum. I know that this review sounds like a hymn to the Pets but this is not true. "Legacy" is a weak track and "All over the world" lucks of inspiration. If it is not their best work so far, it surely is in the top 3. And this is a huge achievement for a pop group making intelligent music for over 25 years.

Super

Incredible album, cool production and inspirational music. The Boys at there BEST!
