The first volume of the series dedicated to reflecting the music spun at Paris’ upscale Hôtel Costes by resident DJ Stéphane Pompougnac, France et Choiseul emphasizes contemporary low-key dance music (lush, downtempo house and trip-hop) while cleverly incorporating the occasional older classic, like Grace Jones' “I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango).” Some of the bigger names who appear here include Nitin Sawnhey (“Migration”), > (“Machine Pour les Oreilles”), and Ballistic Brothers (“Cubafro con Amigos”).

At the age of 18, Stéphane Pompougnac made his DJ debut in clubs such as the Ubu, the Colony, and the Dream in Bordeaux, France, during the mid-'80s. After finishing his studies and national service, he spent six months in London before returning to Paris in 1992 where he mixed at clubs, such as Queen, Folies Pigalle, the Locomotive, and Privilege.
