Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's 2010 album, Beat the Devil's Tattoo, finds the band splitting the difference between the rootsy Americana of 2005's Howl and the return to fuzzed-out noise rock that was 2007's Baby 81. Having once again parted ways with original drummer Nick Jago, bassist Robert Levon Been and guitarist Peter Hayes seem to have found a renewed creative spark with replacement drummer Leah Shapiro. Shapiro comes to the fold with strong noise rock credentials, having been a member of the punk-psych N.Y.C.-based Dead Combo and touring with the Raveonettes. With an overall sound that seems inspired by a searing mix of old-timey blues mixed with a hypodermic blast of melodic noise, there is a driving, wild-eyed intensity to many of the tracks on Beat the Devil's Tattoo. From the opening death-ballad title track and the gospel-meets-Madchester "Conscience Killer," the stoned robot funk of "War Machine," and the blissed-out acoustic folk ballad "Sweet Feeling," BRMC are in top form. But if you're looking for gutting-jet-engine lift-off, the cosmically epic, sanguine rock anthem "Bad Blood," with its repeated chorus of "I can see it in your eyes and now it's gone" is, like the rest of Beat the Devil's Tattoo, likely to grab you by the throat and leave its mark for some time to come.

C'era una volta...
Ricordo ancora le parole di entusiasmo con le quali vennero accolti i nostri al loro esordio. Li definirono come coloro che avrebbero potuto rivitalizzare il Rock; personalmente ero tra quelli.
Ma oggi cosa rimane di allora? Un'immagine quasi sbiadita. O un ologramma che ogni tanto fa comparire l'immagine dei Velvet senza però, ovviamente, essere in grado nè di eguagliarli nè tantomeno di superarli.
Pare abbiano perso la strada ed il richio é che B.R.M.C. possa rimanere l'unica delle perle da custodire nello scrigno della buona musica.
Bello...
Io lo reputo un gran bel disco, ok magari non è ai livelli dei precedenti ma non credo che le idee manchino, anzi, rendono bene anche dal vivo essendoli andati a vedere qualche mese fa...questo è quello che mi aspetto dai BRMC...rock n roll, psichedelia ed un suono veramente underground...Bravissimi come sempre...
Un altro grande lavoro
Il duo Hayes - Been, nonostante la perdita del loro batterista Nick Jago, hanno trovato una sua valida sostituta e, per la sesta volta, hanno registrano un album spettacolare.
Il sound acustico è molto simile a quello di Howl e Baby81 in alcuni brani, come Beat The Devil's Tattoo, The Toll, Long Way Down. Mama Taught Me Better e Shadow's Keeper ricordano invece il primo album per il loro retrogusto rock quasi psichedelico. Una chicca di questo album, a mio giudizio, è la traccia 10, Aya, caratterizzata da una batteria carezzevolmente presente, un basso quasi lugubre e dalla voce sensuale e roca di Hayes che ci racconta la storia di una ragazza misteriosa di cui il cantante è follemente innamorato.
Ancora una volta i Black Rebel Motorcycle Club hanno dimostrato di saper fare dell'ottima musica in un modo nuovo, mescolando sound vecchi e nuovi ma sempre emozionanti
