Description

Basic Black is a production of WGBH Boston. Since 1968, Emmy Award-winning weekly television series Basic Black (formerly Say Brother) has served as a vehicle for African-American community engagement and for the sharing and celebration of its rich history and culture. New England’s longest running weekly television series devoted to programming for African Americans, our audience has now expanded to include viewers from a broader spectrum of communities of color. Basic Black provides an opportunity for our audience to hear engaging, thoughtful, and unscripted conversations on issues both contemporary and timeless. Previous guests on Basic Black have included Anna Deavere Smith, playwright, Wole Soyinka, Nobel Laureate, Bill T. Jones, choreographer, Stephanie Wilson, astronaut (Discovery mission 2006), Walter Mosley, writer, Nikki Giovanni, poet, Howard Bryant, sportswriter, Sweet Honey in the Rock, a cappella ensemble, and John McWhorter, cultural commentator. ©2008 WGBH Educational Foundation
