Description

In this course, Dr. Peterson reviews various physical and mental disabilities in order to help you understand how to love and minister to those who are suffering. Special issues in outreach, family dynamics, and church life are considered from biblical and pastoral perspectives. Topics include knowing God in the midst of suffering, the relationship of body and soul, counseling, medical etiology and diagnosis, the problem of evil, death and dying, health and the Bible, faith healers, and prayer.

Disappointing

I did not register for the course or read the assigned material.

Knowing that this course was taught by Dr. Peterson, I had very high expectations for this course. Unfortunately, those expectations were not realized.

I suppose that the reason for my disappointment is that Dr. Peterson never really addressed the subject topic directly. There were several guest speakers from ministries to persons with disabilities (the highlight of the course to me). Dr. Peterson spent a lot of the course covering general and fundamental topics, sort of a synopsis of systematic theology. All this is good and welcomed. However, Dr. Peterson never personally directly addressed what a Christian should do for persons with disabilities, what a church should do for persons with disabilities, and what the church (in the broadest sense) should do for persons with disabilities.

This is a vital subject taught by an excellent professor at an excellent seminary. I hope they try again.
