Description
In Hebrews through Revelation we see how the inspired authors relate the Old Testament and knowledge of Jesus's redemptive ministry to the belief, worship, and practice of the early apostolic Church. These epistles continue to edify the Church with the solid meat of the Gospel, and encourage suffering and persecuted Christians to persevere despite lofty trials and intense tribulations. Dr. Kistemaker points the way to the glorious hope of Christ's return, held forth to modern Christians as the hope of immortality and the crown of life.

Good Verse-by-Verse Study
I did not register for the course nor read the assigned material. **** During his lecture on Revelation, Dr. Kistemaker says that when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and Communism fell in 1991, he was asked where the next war would be. He replied that there would be war in Yugoslavia for some time and then the next war would come by Islam. This was recorded in June 2001, three months before 9-11. **** Dr. Kistemaker takes a Bible study approach as opposed to a framework approach. That is, he teaches the text on a verse-by-verse level and sometimes a Greek word-by-Greek word level as rather than giving the students a framework of tools to analyze the text on his or her own. This provides the advantage of giving the student a solid understanding of one scholarly perspective of the text. The downside is that the student is not equipped to analyze competing analyses of the text. This is particularly important in the study of Revelation. Dr. Kistemaker teaches the recapitulation perspective but only briefly touches upon the historicist, preterist, futurist, and idealist perspective, which the student will definitely be asked about. **** Dr. Kistemaker makes a point of saying that he doesn’t want to sound racist, but I did wince at some of the things he said about “Jews.” **** I really appreciated his discussion of expiation vs. propitiation. **** The production quality is good. However, it should be noted that Dr. Kistemaker reads his lectures. At least twice he lost his place while reading and he asked his class where he was. **** Overall, this is a worthwhile series of lectures to listen to for the serious student of the Christian Bible.
Nevertheless
This a great resource. Thank you very much.
