Innovation Day at The University of Arizona (UA) celebrates technology development and commercialization by highlighting the research achievements of students, staff and faculty. The Technology Innovation Awards recognize University of Arizona researchers for achievements in translating original ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace. Innovation Day, now in its eighth year, has the goals of recognizing faculty and students at the leading edge of their fields, encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit on campus and introducing members of the community to the relevance of UA research in their own lives. The mission of the UA Office of University Research Parks (OURP) is to create communities of innovation that support and promote research and education, technology innovation and commercialization and high technology business development and attraction. OURP operates the UA Tech Park, UA Bio Park and the Arizona Center for Innovation.

| 6 | VideoDr. Ronald Weinstein: Technology Innovation Award Winner | Dr. Ronald Weinstein, a pathology professor in the College of Medicine has been engaged with a variety of medical projects at the UA since becoming the chief of pathology for the University of Arizona Medical Center in 1990. Dr. Weinstein has made contributions to the cancer research field, created a telemedicine service for Arizona that has treated more than a million patients and co-founded the first robotic telepathology equipment company. In addition, Weinstein has been involved in numerous medical patents and his work has been mentioned in more than 1,000 scientific papers. | 7 | VideoAlexandra Armstrong: Student Technology Innovation Award Winner | Alexandra Armstrong has been at the UA for the last five years and is in her final year as a doctoral candidate in veterinary sciences and microbiology. After working on projects dealing with salmonella, Armstrong began researching the bacteria campylobacter jejuni, which can cause foodborne diseases in humans and is typically found in chickens. Through her research, Armstrong was able to develop a vaccine for chickens to prevent campylobacteriosis, the top foodborne disease worldwide. Jared Moore has been the leading force in the invention and development of a new high-resolution pre-clinical x-ray computed tomography (CT) system that has unique capabilities beyond any commercially available product. Moore has designed and constructed an adaptive, pre-clinical x-ray CT system named FaCT, which can adjust its magnification and field of view, as well as its emitted x-ray beam illumination profile according to the object being imaged.
