In creating his piece Grid, Professor David Schwittek says he was inspired by, "their organic shapes and, for lack of a better word, attitude to create a larger composition wherein multiple copies coexisted. These gridded elements formed a unique kind of tension and movement when they were forced to share a small amount of space." Professor Herbert Broderick, who specializes in medieval Anglo-Saxon manuscripts, is researching the origins of the depiction of the prophet Moses in the Illustrated Old English Hexateuch, a mid-11th century Anglo-Saxon manuscript.
