While reggae has had a place in popular Japanese music for some time, soca is a much rarer genre. Enter Minmi with her debut album Miracle in 2003 and a perfect fusion of soca's bouncing sounds with the more danceable vocals beloved by the Japanese pop scene. With her success powered in part by the ultimately danceable debut single "Perfect Vision" (which went to number four on the Oricon singles charts), Miracle sold over half-a-million copies, an incredible number by Japanese standards, and has remained Minmi's biggest seller.
