This survival mechanism was built into our bodies to enable us to survive severe food shortages. The body was designed to reduce energy expenditure when food was scarce. This helped our ancestors survive in times of severe famine and food shortage. At times like this, the metabolism dipped and the body was able to prolong the usage of fat from the stores in the belly. Unfortunately, this same survival mechanism comes back to haunt the modern dieter. The modern dieter tries to cut calories to lose stomach fat. This simulates a condition of food shortage. The body does not know that the person is dieting. It only thinks that there is a food shortage. Why else would the person not have access to enough food. The body then goes about activating the starvation response and does everything it can to make belly fat loss more difficult.Work with your body The only way to effectively trim your mid-section is by working with your body. You should not use brute force weight loss methods against your body because you will not be able to win the battle. Your body is one of the best survival mechanisms ever created. The moment it senses that its existence is under threat due to a food shortage, you have a battle on your hands that you could never possibly win. They tell you all that you need to know to reduce stomach fat effectively.Video Transcript of How to Reduce Stomach Fat Hello I am Suresh V and I am Dr Jasvin and we are from the Correct Weight Loss team.The 3 causes of a protruding belly [Suresh] Today we are going to talk about how to reduce stomach fat. We are going to first start with what is stomach fat. Basically stomach fat is made up of 3 possible components. First part is visceral fat which is the fat inside your abdomen. It lies in-between your organs and gives you the bulge but it is tight. Your stomach feels tight with visceral fat. [Suresh] The other is subcutaneous fat. This is the fat that is right under your skin. This is the fat that gives you the loose flabby feeling in your tummy. The third cause of the stomach bulge are weak core muscles.This probably is not so prevalent among men and more prevalent among women especially those who have given birth. You have to first understand how these 3 components are causing the stomach bulge or what people consider as stomach fat. Next we want to know how to get rid of this stomach fat. Dr Jasvin would you like to cover that? [Dr Jasvin] It is important to understand that the fat in your stomach is actually part of the fat in the rest of your body. So you are not going to be able to lose the fat in your stomach just by exercising that one spot. [Suresh] So in other words it doesn't make sense to do spot training. [Dr Jasvin] You can't do spot training. You can't do a 100 sit-ups or a 10o crunches and expect to lose the fat in your stomach because it is going to have to come off layer by layer. [Suresh] So it has to come off all over the body and not the stomach alone. [Dr Jasvin] Yes. Its like peeling an onion. You have to peel it one layer by one layer. As the layers come off, the fat on the stomach will come off as well. The most important thing to remember is that you cannot just exercise one part of the body. If a dieter only knew the havoc that skipping meals causes in the body, they would eat all their meals on time. We hope to discuss this common weight loss myth in this video article.Skipping meals to lose weight Your logical mind tells you that you should be able to reduce your weight by reducing the food amount that you eat. When you think logically, you should be able to lose some weight by depriving the body of a meal. After all you have consumed lesser calories right. Well, not exactly. The body is a complicated machine whose ultimate aim is "not to die". It will do what ever it takes not to die. The body's survival processes have not evolved in tandem with the progress in technology. We now live in an age of abundance where people rarely die of starvation in most developing and developed countries. In-fact people are dying of over-eating. Your body does not know this and thinks that food is still scarce. Technology has made food abundantly available but the body has no way of knowing this.Skipping meals sets of the starvation response When you skip a meal, you set off what is called your body's starvation response. This is a panic situation for the body when it senses that there is a food shortage. When this panic situation arises, your body reduces it's energy utilization. Your body needs a certain amount of energy to run all your bodily processes such as breathing, digesting food and everything else required to keep you alive. The amazing thing about the body is that it can ramp up or down energy utilization. This energy utilization is also known as your metabolism. When your body senses that there is not enough food to go around, it ramps down your metabolism. This is mainly done by sacrificing your muscle mass and making most processes in the body sluggish. This is exactly what happens when you skip a meal. If a period between your meals is longer than what your body is used to, it will panic. It will set off the starvation response. Most people who skip meals think that they are losing weight but the exact opposite happens. They are in-fact reducing the amount of fat that they might burn when eating regularly.You store even more fat in the next meal To make matters worst, the body remains in this starvation mode until the next meal. When this next meal is eaten, the excess calories are stored as fat. As a consequence of skipping a meal, you not only reduce your fat burning ability but also store more calories as fat in the next meal. Skipping meals is never a solution to weight loss. Skipping meals is a weight loss myth. What you should do is to spread out your meals to 3 main meals and 2 small snacks. This regular eating will help keep your body's paranoia at bay. The body burns the most amount of fat when it is not paranoid of starving to death. Suresh and Dr Jasvin address these issues in the video above. They are back where they started or in a worse place.It is not fast weight loss if the weight comes back on People looking for fast weight loss must have this long-term picture in sight. Gimmicks, diets, pills and drugs provide fast overnight weight loss. In the long-term there is probably no net difference. There may even be a net gain in weight due to the compromised metabolism.Fundamentals of fast weight loss Fast weight loss requires you to go back to the fundamentals of healthy nutrition, exercise, supplementation and adequate restoration. These are the keys of correct weight loss. When you lose weight in accordance with the 7 keys of correct weight loss, the weight comes off and stays off.
