After spending time as a backup singer for various Dutch artists, Giovanca set out in 2008 with her own debut, Subway Silence. The Netherlands might not be the first place one looks for fresh takes on modern soul, but Giovanca provides plenty of new sounds. Her vocals on Subway Silence have drawn legitimate comparisons to Corinne Bailey Rae's quiet, carefree attitude, and the more sultry aspects of Erykah Badu or Macy Gray. The arrangements themselves range from choppy upbeat ideas to classic '60s elements, all with an entirely new look at soul that's nostalgic at the same time.

How a little girl keeps you smiling in her songs
I grew up around the corner where Giovanca lived and always admired her smile and pretty eyes. The little girl with the sweet smile is now on her way, but in her voice I can still hear the same girl I learned to know: very talented with a hypnotizing voice - when I hear her on the radio, I always stop to listen... smiling...
Subway Silence
Een heerlijk nieuw fris geluid dat niemand mag missen. Ritme nooit eerder zo gebruikt. Een stem niet onverdienstelijk. Een tune die "hinderlijk" in je hoofd blijft hangen. Kortom, dit is veelbelovend! Zo spannend!

Heb Giovanca zo'n driekwart jaar geleden voor het eerst mogen horen op een mooie zonnige dag in het Vondelpark. Was op slag verliefd op haar sound en verschijning! Deze CD is erg de moeite waard!!!!!!!
