Cycle 021 mixed by Frivolous | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 021 mixed by Frivolous Today's Source To Cycle podcast comes from Frivolous, one of Cadenza's more eccentric family members. Cadenza fans will know Frivolous from his debut album 'Meteorology', which was released on Cadenza in February 2011 complete with its club hits 'Wasting Time', 'Back Into The Deep', and 'Cryin''. Many will also know him from his live club spectacles, which features live keyboards and vocals, as well as a number of his own homemade devices/instruments including the Frivolous Patented Electromagnetic Knife, the Broken-Ruler Music Box, and the Double Cable-Tub Bass. Frivolous aka Daniel Gardner is certainly unconventional. His recent Random Cuts video episode gave us great insight into how his wonky mind works, and you can hear his warped sensibilities on his Source To Cycle podcast. His Cycle mix is multi-layered DJ set, that moves through many grades of light and darkness, humour and authenticity, energy and serenity. Beginning with the Nicolas Jaar Remix of Azari and III's 'Into The Night', we arrive at tracks by Maceo Plex, Subb-an, Mehrnoosh, Savage Skulls, and Zepp001. The full of synths and unusual house rhythms, live drums and warped vocals, and is fittingly fun. Of course with this being Frivolous, there was bound to be a nice surprise or two, and instead of doing a straight up mix of his favourite ever tracks for his Source, Frivolous decided to create a special chronological history of his musical influences since 1989, by weaving in news reel sounds from the era of the tracks that he included, as a way to create a sense of time and space. It is certainly an effective way to tell a story, and it's also rather educational. The Human League, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, Goldie, Daft Punk and Isolee all make it into the mix. "The news reel sounds were a lot harder to find that I initially thought," says Frivolous with a grin, although Daniel Gardner is not the kind of dude who walks away from a wacky idea without an enlightening result. Tracklist Azari and III - Into The Night (Nicolas Jaar Remix) Maceo Plex - The Feelin' Subb-an - The Lovers Night feat. Beckford Inxec, Mark Chambers - O' so (Maya Jane Coles Remix) Mehrnoosh - Mi Amor Mikael Stavostrand, Agaric - Gutted feat. Cycle 020 mixed by Massimo Di Lena | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 020 mixed by Massimo Di Lena Italy's Massimo Di Lena, or Massi DL as he is sometimes known, had an explosive debut on Cadenza at the tail end of 2009 with the four track EP 'Gypsytown'. Since then the Neapolitan artist has been active in the studio releasing cuts on labels such as Claque Musique, Oslo, and Cynosure. His style is not easy to pinpoint. Whilst his Cadenza EP featured a mixture of dirty Chicago grooves (Raw Track), low-slung percussion (9991 Highway), and synth-driven melodies (Gypsytown), he is also a big fan of classic techno and house - in 2010 he remixed G-Man's notorious 1999 loop techno hit 'Quo Vardis', and he is also known for sampling old house records under his Horatio project, which he runs with Rio Padice. You can hear some of those themes on Massi DL's Cadenza Source To Cycle podcast. His Cycle mix is primarily driven by synthesizers, that are sometimes electronic and foreboding, at other times they are subtle and melodic. There's a wealth of influences in his mix, including some standout classic house vocal moments, as well as some bubbly techno beats, and one or two dirty thumping kick-bass combos. There's a hefty amount of Chicago rhythms in his mix too, but the nod to the past is always balanced out by a healthy dose of modern digital production trickery. Cuts by Moodymann, Anthony Shake Shakir, N.Y. House'n Authority and Theo Parrish contrast quite wonderfully with basement friendly jams from Bass Clef and Fcl VS Vfb, and acid Warp madness from Africa Hitech. There's a certain high brow alternative electronic feel to his set. Massi DL's Source mix is enlightening too, with its journey through downtempo, soulful pop, funk, and euphoric electronica. His mix includes cuts from Modeselektor, A Tribe Called Quest, Mr Scruff, Prefuse, Fatima, J Dilla and Liquid Liquid. Cycle 019 mixed by Reboot | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 019 mixed by Reboot The ever jolly Reboot mixed this week's Cadenza Source To Cycle podcast, and on his Cycle the Frankfurt-based producer lays down one of his infamous live sets that features live re-edits of his own music and some killer grooves from the wider scene. With corners of darkness - electronic rhythms, warped vocals, pulsating grooves, and Chicago beats - contrasting with shafts of light - sweet melodies, pure chords and elevating synths - the chiaroscuro journey that he creates is uniquely Reboot. Loops, samples, kick drums and one shots are stitched together by the delicate ears of Reboot into a living breathing beautiful whole, that is full of emotion and dance energy. The organic polyrhythms that he is known for work wonders on the dancefloor, but here they also do wondrous things to the mind. On Reboot's Source, Frank Heinreich rewinds through some of his musical influences that includes downtempo rhythms, sultry jazz, classic soul, soft guitar moments, and even a chill out version of Inner City's 'Good Life'. Cycle 018 mixed by Cesar Merveille | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 018 mixed by Cesar Merveille Cesar Merveille takes the low road on this week's Source To Cycle podcast, and exposes the dirty underbelly of house and techno in this raw undiluted Cycle mix. Having begun his DJ career spinning records in London's legendary sleazy hole-in-the-wall - the now defunct T Bar (as well as places like Lo*kee and Fabric) - Cesar has grown accustomed to playing at such naughty events and whenever he does find himself playing in more conventional surroundings, he'll take control of the party like no other. He is always the last man standing (just ask the unfortunate promoters that have to put up with his boundless enthusiasm). Perhaps that might explain why Cesar Merveille plays the way he does. Instead of pushing energy levels beyond their natural place, Cesar uses his music to entice, coerce, and tickle the dancefloor into choosing which door, which path, which groove to take. The choice is always theirs, as Cesar Merveille is not the sort of DJ to ram something unsavory down our throats. He understands how to run a marathon, and as this podcast demonstrates, it always flows very smoothly. Cycle 017 mixed by Martinez | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 017 mixed by Martinez Subtlety triumphs in this week's Source To Cycle podcast, as Denmark-based producer and DJ Martinez guides us through his Cycle with precise yet graceful changes in rhythm, tone, and pace. Martinez produced an EP for Cadenza last year, and soon he will have another EP out on Cadenza Lab. Here, with the smoothness of a ripe avocado, Martinez moves through layers of broken beat, deep emotional house and techno, funky double bass grooves, and even guitar driven numbers on his futurist mix. His tracklist include cuts from Alex Celler, Michael Melchner, Boola, Mathias Kaden, and Ricardo Villalobos, and it also features Valentino Kanzyani's forthcoming Cadenza track 'Woodoo Samba', wicked as it is. The way Martinez blends his rhythms it's clear Martinez is a smoothie man behind the decks. He switches basslines, kick drums, hi hats, and rhythm structures with the deftness of a pick pocket who leaves you in a permanent state of bewilderment. In the end you're left disorientated, drifting from beat to drop, wondering where one track ends and the next one begins, at the mercy of Martinez. Before long you're lost, swallowed whole by the magic show. Cycle 016 mixed by Valentino Kanzyani | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 016 mixed by Valentino Kanzyani In the early days of his career Slovenia's Valentino Kanzyani built a name for himself as a three-deck wizard of techno. Here on his Cadenza Cycle podcast he demonstrates that he still has a passion and a flair for mixing with the black gold. Through the crackle, pop and hiss of his records, we see what he sees, and feel what he feels. Manually weaving together fresh underground house and future leaning techno from Europe and beyond, there's a raw and loopy vibe to his set. The rhythms are sometimes complex with multiple dimensions, at other times, the beats are simple affairs, with classic house structure and pure analogue goodness. The subtle changes in mood and tone throughout his Cycle mix remind us of one of those long afterparty sessions where the music just keeps flowing all through the next day, and it pushes you forwards without ever using any obvious breakdowns and energy-sapping pyrotechnics. You can hear a lot of Chicago in this Kanzyani set, and a fair amount of Romanian influence too - Kanzyani says that he is currently making and playing music with a lot of Romania's new breed, and indeed his Next Wave parties in Ibiza are aimed at highlighting that same Eastern Europe talent. Valentino Kanzyani's Source mix features a blissful selection of electronica, downtempo treats, and broken beats with tracks from Brian Eno, Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer, Moritz Von Oswald Trio, Massive Attack and Autechre. It gives us some insight into who he is as an artist today. On 30 April Kanzyani will see the release of his debut EP for Cadenza, titled Love and Gratitude EP1. The EP is the first in a series of releases for Cadenza, which will culminate in the release of his album later this year. Cycle 015 mixed by Dandy Jack | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 015 mixed by Dandy Jack He's a true poet of electronic energy - a constructor of worlds that are both as viscerally rich as they are intellectually provocative. Quite often, you find yourself listening and dancing to Dandy Jack wondering if it really is possible to go as deep as he demands of you. And that's the thing about Dandy Jack - he expects certain things from you as a listener or dancer. Passivity is not an option. You have to bring something to the table - an open mind, a flight of fancy, a willingness to consume or be consumed. Listen to Dandy Jack's Cycle mix, and you will be both bodily entranced and cognitively challenged. His mix moves through layers of buzzing radioactive frequencies, microscopically precise percussion, and swinging high energy grooves that never seem to touch the edges of any known and accepted electronic music norms. The reason why he can provide such a unique journey is because he has always been an artist of freedom. From his work with Ricardo Villalobos as Ric y Martin, to his Carabina 30:30 project with Luciano, Gon with Uwe Schmidt, Amp with Peter Namlook, Gonzalo Martinez with Jorge Gonzalez, and Narod Niki, the live techno project that he participated in with Hawtin, Villalobos, and Monolake, Dandy Jack has always been an explorer of electronic sounds. He has also seen a lot and done a lot. He started his lifelong love affair with electronic music in 1989, and as well as being a producer and a DJ, he ran a club called Microman, and promoted large scale events in his home country including Encuentro de la Technocultura and Mutek Chile. Dandy Jack's Cycle mix contains mostly his own material. As well as his solo work, his mix contains music from Sieg Über Die Sonne, the live act that he runs with Tobias Freund, and John keys, the double act he created with Adres Garcia. It's innately danceable. His Source mix is a delightful thing to listen to too. From stunning piano pieces to broken beat, jazz, early techno, and warped electronica, it's a true journey for the senses, and provides some insight into what makes the mind of Dandy Jack tick. Source 015 selected by Dandy Jack | Cadenza Music Podcast Source 015 selected by Dandy Jack He's a true poet of electronic energy - a constructor of worlds that are both as viscerally rich as they are intellectually provocative. Cycle 014 mixed by Argy | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 014 mixed by Argy Greece's Argy takes us on a journey through 20 years of dance music on this week's Cadenza Cycle podcast. Combining classics, bootlegs and acapellas from Moodymann, Mood II Swing, Robert Hood, Moby, and KC Flight with modern electronic polyrhythms and house from Levon Vincent, Kink, Shlomi Aber and more, his Cycle mix represents Argy's unique approach to taking a club apart. It also shows that he's not afraid to dig deep into the crates of history: he is not a DJ preoccupied only by the present. Argy's Source mix features a selection of his favorite Krautrock/Kosmische Musik-inspired pieces, which he admits is something of an acquired taste and not necessarily for everyone. But as is the case with most things worth having in this world, those who are patient with it will discover its true value. Cycle 013 mixed by Laps | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 013 mixed by Laps As many eventual musicians, Swiss born Laurent Bovey’s childhood was an exploration through sound, a young and perhaps subconscious fascination with music in all its genres and moods. Carving his way through metal, hip hop, seventies psychedelia and eventually winding up deep in electronica in his late teens, Laurent identified a natural talent and passion for electronic production. Divulging his growing love of minimal, techno and house whilst finding artistic partnership with Gregorythyme in 2003, the duo formed Digitaline whose live project has since soared; snapped up by Luciano’s Cadenza in 2005 to kick start a now robust collection of EP’s and an album on the globally recognised label. Going on to release their work on CityFox, Minibar and GS Zurich, Digitaline continue to be a prevalent part of the Live circuit playing at the world’s finest electronic institutions and festivals including Panorama Bar, fabric, Cocoon, Space, DC10, Mutek and Movement (DEMF). Branching out to explore the more solitude direction of solo work, Laurent Bovey began to build his Laps moniker and in 2007, hit out with the percussive draw and intricately crafted ‘Jolie’ EP on Smallville Records. Drawing inspiration from every facet of his acoustic surroundings, Lap’s sonic direction blends the warm and balmy depths of house while retaining the raw, organic drive of techno. From the incessantly infectious groove on his recent ‘Smokey’ Cadenza Lab EP, to the dark and smouldering edge of his ‘Horko’ EP on Seuil’s Eklo; Laps sound sculpting is forever intriguing, technically outstanding and a staple member of dance floors worldwide. As Laps work continues to indulge, early 2012 has laid down two outstanding EP’s - ‘Joyful Process’ on Cadenza and ‘Smokey’ on its sister Lab. Upcoming, we see him grasped by Cesare vs Disorder’s experimental Mean Records with the ‘Startracker’ EP this May followed by a remix of Coey’s ‘How We Do It’ on Swiss label Melisima later in the year. A solid producer and Live act as both Digitaline and Laps, Laurent Bovey safely marks himself as an integral part of today’s electronic music realm. Cycle 011 mixed by Ernesto Ferreyra | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 011 mixed by Ernesto Ferreyra Born in Argentina, Ernesto Ferreyra travels the world in pursuit of musical enlightenment. From Mexico, to Montreal, to Berlin, the newest member of team Cadenza proves rhythm knows no borders. The die was cast early when Ernesto began to collect records by Depeche Mode, Jean Michael Jarre y Pink Floyd, which led him to discover house music, at the time, a little known sub-culture in Argentina. At age 13 the precocious music fanatic landed a job as a radio DJ in his hometown of Cordoba, at 14 he was spinning at under-18 discos, by 16 he was a full-fledged club DJ. He made a pass at conventional career planning but found his time at university revolved around weekends in the clubs. “I saw my path was marked,” he says, “It was music.” Determined to carve his own path, Ernesto moved to the maelstrom of Mexico City, where he lived for three years, DJing all over Mexico and taking the first steps in his production career. Next, he moved to Montreal, drawn by the vibrant creative culture of Montreal, Canada’s electronic music hotbed. There his production career moved into high gear, driven by friendships with MUTEK artists and – in particular – Guillaume Coutu Dumont, who he records and performs with under the Chic Miniature moniker. It wasn’t just the creative talent that spurred Ernesto. “The cold helps too,” he jokes. “You wind up buried in your studio working all the time.” There is more to Ernesto’s music than just putting in the hours, though. He defines his sound as a mix of Latin groove and taut Northern minimalism. His records reflect a boundless curiosity about life, emotion and sensation. “I love jazz, soul, funk, Cuban rhythms, rivers, mountains… crazy movies like Tim Burton, history books – everything is an inspiration!” Ernesto’s crisp, seductive cuts appear on labels including MUTEK, Cadenza, Musique Risquée, Cyosure and Crosstown Rebels. His gigs at the world’s best clubs include Berlin’s Watergate and Panoramabar, Tokyo’s Yellow, Spazio 900 in Rome and – in summer 2010 – Pacha, Ibiza. Forthcoming releases include remixes for Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly imprint, ‘For Beaner’ on Thema Records and Ernesto’s debut artist album. Cycle 010 mixed by Felipe Venegas | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 010 mixed by Felipe Venegas Felipe Venegas has cemented his reputation as one of Chile’s finest DJs and producers. Now the 30-year-old joins the Cadenza family on its mission to ignite the dancefloors of Europe and beyond. Felipe studied classical music and theory at university in Santiago, but his true musical education took place outside the classroom, in clubs where the likes of Luciano, Dandy Jack, DJ Adrian and Ricardo Villalobos were creating a new culture of sound. Felipe spent his weeks studying Beethoven and Stravinsky. But at the weekends he escaped to the underground electronic music scene, soaking up the spirit of techno, house and acid. Cycle 009 mixed by Mirko Loko | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 009 mixed by Mirko Loko Mirko Loko’s passion for music has led him on an upward trajectory ever since he first started DJing in the late 90’s clubs of Lausanne. Based at the crossroads of Detroit-inspired techno and the stripped-down, jacked up side of house, his music is music of diversity, and subtlety, a hypnotic collage sewn together by his imagination. Regularly hiding complexities: layers, polyrhythms, shifting moods of dark and light, high-class and low-slung. In 2010-11 alone, there’s been Mirko’s original collaboration with Detroit’s Stacey Pullen. Remixes ranging from Martina Topley-Bird (Massive Attack) to Layo and Bushwacka – and even remixes of Mirko’s material by Carl Craig and Ricardo Villalobos. Cycle 007 mixed by Mr. Mike | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 007 mixed by Mr. Mike After more than 20 years on the European Dance music scene Mr Mike need no introduction. Born in Jamaica and raised in the UK, he discovered his true passion for music at an early age through his family and church. His first track came out while living in Antwerp Belgium. In the 80's he released the first disco hit to come out of Europe "Why can't we live together" under the name Mike Anthony. This caused him to spend several years in the diamond dealer's capital, mixing and developing disco, later known as house music. He arrived in Switzerland in the late 80's and started working for the Swiss national radio Couleur 3. Using the radio name "Mr Mike" he quickly got the recognition and popularity he deserved, being one of the pioneers of what we today call the Swiss Dance music scene. He produced various tracks in collaboration with former associate Djaimin as the Black and white brothers releasing the classic hits "Put your hands up in the air" and "Pump it up" which made him rise to the top, and gave him the international recognition that still holds today. In 2002 he decided to take a step forward and created his record label, MAP Dance records. The record label was created by Mr Mike in order to promote quality house and dance music from Switzerland and abroad. It was only fair for Mike to give back something to the people of Switzerland, a springboard for the careers of young Djs and producers to reach international stardom. In 2005 he co-produces the international hit "Zookey" with his young protégé at the time, Yves Larock. More than 150 000 copies of "Zookey"were sold only in France. It was the lead track on Bob Sinclar's Africanism compilation and a great success in the clubs worldwide. MAP Dance caught the eye of international press and the music industry, establishing itself as a Swiss flagship record label. In 2007 Yves Larock signed a second hit on MAP Dance records "Rise up" which was an even bigger success. The licenses of the single were sold to over 25 countries, confirming the status of Yves Larock as an international Dj and producer as well as Mr Mike as a successful businessman and proud label owner. Mr Mike is Djing worldwide, promoting his radio show on 105 Zurich, and managing his event label "We Love House" with events in Switzerland, Mexico,Thailand, Singapore, China and the United States. Source 007 selected by Mr. Mike | Cadenza Music Podcast Source 007 selected by Mr. At the start of this new decade Mr Mike decided to resurrect the vocal side of his persona and has joined forces with arguably one Switzerland's most popular dj's “DJ Antoine” with plans to records several tracks together as well as touring engagements. And though the French-born, Geneva-based artist may not have a manor to his name, the rest isn't far off the mark. Born Renaud Lewandowski, Lee has earned a reputation as a kind of dark prince of uplifting electronic music—a trickster who spreads his mischief via long, undulating DJ sets and bewilderingly funky releases. And he's done this in a remarkably short span of time. In 2004, he and Philippe Quenum released the well-received "Extension"/"Oregon" single for Luciano's Cadenza label; since then Lee has gone on to unleash a deluge of material on labels like Mental Groove, Bpitch Control, Dumb Unit, Einmaleins, Memo, Plak, Defrag Sound Processing, Mobilee, Leena, Wagon Repair, Soma (where Lee and Quenum also released their collaborative album, As Told On The Eve Of…) and still more. He's a regular fixture at some of the world's most celebrated nightclubs— Panorama Bar, Weetamix, Goa, Rex Club, D edge, The Arches etc…and even more celebrated afters. And as the director of two labels—Num, alongside Quenum, and 60Sec, with Agnès—he's released dozens of records from the likes of Butane, Mike Shannon, Alex Attias, Exercise one, Pan Pot, Dario Zenker and many more. Cycle 004 mixed by UNER | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 004 mixed by UNER UNER is one of the most important names of the new generation of Spanish electronic music producers. His musical training allowed him to develop at a very early age a different dance music concept, based on the pleasure for harmony and the search for a unique, personal sound. This has lead him to edit for labels like Diynamic (where he's an active member and has edited his most celebrated works to date, "Raw Sweat" and "Bassboot"), 2020 Vision, Get Physical, Defected or CR2 to mention a few. UNER has earned the respect of the music industry with talent and work: names like Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox or Luciano play his music on a regular basis; clubs like Berlin's Watergate or Space ibiza book him oftenly and his number of fans increases by the day; all of this because of what he does best, his music. Apart from traveling around the world as a Dj, in 2011 UNER presented his live gigs, an audiovisual concept in which he uses state-of-the-art software and hardware (from iPads to mini midi keyboards) to explore his most solid, personal side. The artistic expansion of the Catalonian producer will go on during the following months with the creation of several artist albums where he'll express his way of understanding electronic music from a musical point of view and from the center of the dancefloor. UNER's bound to reach higher tops with the only limit of his music... so there's still loads to see, listen and dance. Cycle 003 mixed by Dani Casarano | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 003 mixed by Dani Casarano Live at Mad, Switzerland - 3rd December 2011 Dani Casarano was born in Morges, by Lake Geneva, near Lausanne, to Italian parents. At 12 years old, he was absorbing hip-hop and acid jazz. He also soaked in the sounds that resounded at home, which featured, among others, Italian composer Ennio Morricone. Taking his destiny into his own hands, at just 14, Dani was inspired by house music and invested in Technics turntables. He also took guitar lessons and learnt musical notation. After leaving school, which he attended with Luciano, he decided to take the trip of a lifetime. The year was 1997 and the country he chose, after receiving an invitation from long-time compadre Luciano, was Chile. Magical, metaphysical, and volcanic, it was not unlike the rolling grooves that he loved and played. And it was here that he first met Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack and Argenis Brito. Dani soon began making his own productions, a servant to a universal groove. Always approaching electronic music with organic and acoustic elements. Always adapting to new places, faces, ideas and seasonal flavours. Yet always preserving the story and soul of the dance, the foundations of the scene. His debut was a CD album entitled In Transit 8 Track, which he wrote and produced under the alias Tony Mass, released on South American label Sum Records. He also contributed a single called ‘Break Sense’ to the Love Parade Santiago – Chile 2005 compilation on BMG. His first track to land on his beloved vinyl was ‘Oiseaux Sans Ailes’, produced with Ernesto Albacete (Ernie), which came out on Spanish label Deep Explorer in 2006. He then produced the techy, synth-heavy ‘El Zapo Hablo’; ‘the toad speaks’ being a Chilean expression for when everyone knows a secret about you. This was released in 2006 on Germany’s Connaisseur Supérieur, thereby the ‘undisclosed’ became self-evident: the man may be modest but his music was now speaking for itself. Besides solo work, Dani regularly forms a DJ/production partnership with Chile’s Felipe Valenzuela. They are akin to brothers, born just one day apart, and have signed music to such labels as, among others, Bond, Recycle Records, and Metroline, where they were remixed by Oslo Records’ boss Nekes, producing lush funky sounds with earthy Latin American and African undertones – global dance music – that has impacted on heads, from John Digweed to Ben Watt to Nick Curly. Plus, as we speed towards 2010, there’s a boatload of fresh material on the horizon. For example, their ‘Santi EP’ will break on Fumakilla, and a remix will drop for M.in on Berlin-based Waldliebe Musik as well as for Iranzo Lasia on Italy’s Frequenza Limited. Meanwhile, Dani looks forward to kick-starting a second artist album, and even has an ambition to create film soundtracks. He will also continue to build upon his DJing, having already played everywhere from Ibizan superclubs (Pacha, Privilege and Space) to Berlin’s underground (Club der Visionaere) to Latin American hotspots (including D-Edge and Mint) and festivals (such as Creamfields and South American Music Conference (SAMC)). Yes. In his hands, he’s got history, the future, yesterday and tomorrow. Dani Casarano: someone you’re sure to hear of much more from now on – and rightly so! Cycle 002 mixed by Mendo | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 002 mixed by Mendo Mendo means it when he says, “Music is the most important thing in my life.” The striking new star of the Cadenza crew has devoted 18 years of his life to dance music – and he is bursting with enthusiasm for the next 18. Born in Geneva to Spanish parents, Mendo’s first encounter with electronic music was through pirate radio. Fascinated, he borrowed some music gear. Then his mother bought him Technotronic’s “Pump Up The Jam” and he was on his way to becoming a DJ. Inspired by US house stars like Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez and Masters At Work, Mendo quickly developed a flair for sexy, pulsating house that caught the ear of legendary Miami-based producer George Morel, who signed Mendo to Groove Records for tracks including, “Everybody I Got Him,” “Do It,” “Never Mind,” “Move On,” and “Tell Me.” This led to releases for labels including, Get Physical, Rekids, Saved, Viva Music, Great Stuff, CR2 and Defected. Mendo also did remixes for his friend Chab’s Imago Records, and in 2003 he and Chab founded Clarisse Records. Mendo released a string of hits on Clarisse including “Play Me With Your Sound” which Roger Sanchez snapped up for Stealth Records. Thanks to his tireless production work and infectious DJ sound Mendo reached all the right ears. Luciano was so impressed he signed “Remember” EP to Cadenza Records in 2009 and “Encantos” EP in 2010. This was the beginning of an exciting collaboration which has seen Mendo join the Vagabundos to ignite Pacha and Ushuaia in Ibiza. When he’s not running with the Cadenza crew, Mendo is globe-trotting to destinations as diverse as, Japan, South America, USA , Germany and UK, giving fans a chance to soak up his incredible four decks Traktor sets that blend the best of house, live sampling and techno futurism. Mendo plays at some of the best clubs on the planet: Womb, Tokyo; Panoramabar, Berlin; Cielo, New York; and D-Edge in Sao Paulo. "The key to a successful party is to get girls dancing. Once they dance, everybody does,” Mendo says. “I just want people to have a good time with my music.” Mendo is currently working on productions including “Stages of Life” EP for Cadenza, and has a packed DJ schedule. But he thrives on pressure. “It is exciting to produce a song, then play in front of thousands of people and make them hysterical,” he says. “DJing is the best job in the world.” Tracklist Francesco Pico - Absolute Intro Dana Ruh, Andre Galuzzi - Trambolla John Stoongard - Femme Fatale Inner City, Kevin Saunderson - Future feat. “DJing is the best job in the world.” Tracklist Merveille, Crosson - The Day You Left PillowTalk - Soft Robert Owens, Coldcut - Walk A Mile In My Shoes New Navy - Zimbabwe DJ T - Leavin Me Phonique - Oh Come Around Lana Del Rey - Video Games Deep Space Orchestra - On The Inside Motor City Drum Ensemble - L.O.V.E. Cycle 001 mixed by Luciano | Cadenza Music Podcast Cycle 001 mixed by Luciano Born in 1978, Luciano is a DJ since 1993 and a producer since 1997. In the mid-90's, he was promoting Sense Club and Encuentros con la Technocultura in Santiago de Chile in the company of many initiators of the Latin American electronic music scene: Senor Coconut AKA Atom Heart, Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack and brother Adrian Schopf, Washington Miranda, Argenix Brito, Microman etc. He's played radio stations and DJed clubs and events in Santiago and Latin America, Germany, Spain and Holland, settling in Switzerland in 2000 to release on Mental Groove Records in Geneva, where he also holds a residency at the Weetamix club. His releases appear on the Transmat, Perlon, Lo-Fi Stereo, Bruchstuecke and Klang Elektronik record labels. Luciano's mixed Swiss and Chilean identity shows in his music, a somewhat mystical blend of deep techno and electro that integrates southern elements in rhythms and colorful patterns in sound. His collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos (Playhouse, Perlon, Warp, Force Inc etc.) as Sense Club are especially rewarding, as is his partnership with Pier Bucci and Argenix Brito as Monne Automne. Mellowing his style as times goes by, getting more experimental and spacey with a fresh style of his own, Luciano’s production is destined to the wiser dancefloors that have enjoyed his live sets in Peru, Chile, Argentina, the U.S., Spain, Germany and Switzerland. DJ-wise, Luciano’s trade relies on groovy and minimal.
