Tradition with a Twist
Stumbled upon this Norwegian band with apparent connections to the traditional sources of folkrock. Beautiful songs, a very competent fiddler and varied and well balanced vocals is rather impressive. The fact that this band is from Norway gives an interesting twist to the otherwise nice, traditional sounding album.
Modern folkrock with obvious connections to the past
Really refreshing to hear a band that obviously know the origins of the British folkrock genre and at the same time can add some modern originality and emotional delivery to the songs and the sound. The fiddle player and the vocalists that communicate the lyrics in a very intimate way was especially appreciated. No doubt the slow ballads work best, the more fast and punchy tracks lack some substance and roughness in my opinion. Alltogether FolkPort is a surprising, new acquaintance that takes it's natural place in the folkrock evolution.
