| 1 | It's Time to End Public School | There is a laundry list of reasons. First, I will discuss the practical reasons why public education is grossly sub-optima, afterwards I will discuss why it is morally revolting. Let's look at the teaching efficacy of public vs. private school with a particular focus on results compared to costs. The National Center for Education Statistics reveals, "In grades 4 and 8 for both reading and mathematics, students in private schools achieved at higher levels than students in public schools. The average difference in school means ranged from almost 8 points for grade 4 mathematics, to about 18 points for grade 8 reading." The Council for American Private education published a report showing the myriad number of ways that private schools outperform public ones. Their study shows private schools consistently outperforming the "free" public alternative by double digit percentages. Time magazine reports, "While controlling for SES eliminated most public school/private-school differences in achievement test scores, it did not eliminate differences in the most widely used test of developed abilities, the SAT." Time goes on to add, "Combined with high-school grades, SAT scores are the best predictor of how kids will do in their freshman year of college. And the data in the new study shows that private-school students outperform public-school students on the SAT." This chart, prepared by CollegeBoard.com, shows that non-religious private school students beat government run schools by 12%. Even religious schools (who public school advocates claim are all backwards institutions that do little other than teach opposition to evolution between Christian apologetics classes) manage to beat public schools by 6.5% 12% is a pretty substantial difference in my opinion. Nonetheless, the statistics are biased against the private schools. Take the Dallas school district as an example. The most current figures show that an incredible 59% of students drop out before graduating. A large portion of them (and they are presumably the weaker students) never take the SAT because they drop out before it is given, and are certainly not trying to get into college. It's not hard to see the effect this has on the statistics. The national statistics are better, but still scary. Nationwide 1 in 4 Freshmen never graduate. Of course, those are the official government figures. The Manhattan Institute's estimates are somewhat lower. Effectively the SAT figures are more or less comparing the top 70% of public school students with a much broader portion of private school students who are far more likely to reach graduation and complete the SATs. The analysis needs to go deeper, because I can already hear the objections. Private schools are just for rich kids! Poor parents could never send their children to a private school! Well, let's look at how much private schools cost. Private High Schools cost an average of $10,549 annually. In contrast, public schools reportedly spend $11,000/student annually. I'm skeptical of that figure, because I'm skeptical of most government accounting, but I'll take it at face value for the purpose of this article. What we see when all is said and done (even ignoring the bias against private schools caused by high dropout rates) is that private non-religious education is 12% more effective and 4% cheaper. Even before I consider arguments about the morality of being forced to pay for other parent's to educate their children, we can see that eliminating public education, and providing school vouchers would be a more practical choice. It plainly would raise our educational performance and cut costs at the same time. It's a no brainer. Now, let's look at the morality of the situation. It's plainly not just to tax people, and then spend the money on public education. We factually know that private educators do a better job for less money. At a minimum, we should st | 20 7 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

RPR Interview - Robb Wolf | We caught up with fitness guru Robb Wolf to talk about America's weight problem. In addition to writing the bestselling book "The Paleo Solution" he is also the co-host of the "Paleo Solution" podcast. He explains why government lies are to blame for the obesity epidemic. It turns out that following the government sponsored "food pyramid" is just about the worst thing you can do. Next, Robb clues us in on what a healthy diet actually looks like. The answer is pretty shocking, it's almost diametrically opposite to the conventional wisdom. | 3 | Michele Bachmann Pledges to Ban Abortion, Gay Marriage, and Pornography | The Tea Party formed as a protest against taxation. The idea was that our economy was in such dire straits that we had to focus on it at the exclusion of all other issues. There was a lot of disagreement about exactly how small the government should be. The answer varied from anarchists to supporters of George Bush. However, it was generally agreed that fiscal problems were the most dire we faced. Our nation faced (and still faces) such an emergency that everything else had to take a back seat to the deficit. That was the dream anyway. In fairly short order, it became apparent that the Tea Party was being co-opted by the Republican party. We started to see the grandiose claims of budget cuts fading into meaningless tiny compromises. Amy Kremer the head of Tea Party Express said: "You’re going to have those purists, those hard-liners, who say, ‘Shut down the government and cut everything'. But that’s not practical. That’s not being realistic. ” Next a survey found that 70% of Tea Party members opposed cuts to Medicare. Now to add insult to the injury of ignoring our budget problems. the Tea Party is increasingly pushing a religion based socially conservative message. Today, Tea Party Caucus leader Michele Bachmann signed the FAMiLY LEADER pledge. You should really read the whole thing, because a handful of excerpts can't properly convey the entirety of the horror. Among the many odious provisions contained in the pledge: · Vigorous opposition to any redefinition of the Institution of Marriage – faithful monogamy between one man and one woman – through statutory-, bureaucratic-, or court-imposed recognition of intimate unions which are bigamous, polygamous, polyandrous, same-sex, etc · Earnest, bona fide legal advocacy for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) at the federal and state levels. · Steadfast embrace of a federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which protects the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman in all of the United States. · Humane protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy – our next generation of American children – from human trafficking, sexual slavery, seduction into promiscuity, and all forms of pornography and prostitution, infanticide, abortion and other types of coercion or stolen innocence. We find all the usual religious right violations of liberty. This is very explicitly a call for the forceful imposition of Christian norms onto the rest of society. The pledge slathers its force with a mock respect for the constitution. However it's plain that the Bible comes ahead of the constitution anytime supernatural commandments contradict the freedoms protected by the founders. Bachmann, along with FAMiLY LEADER, merrily ignore the freedom of association, freedom of speech, and the control of your own body. It's an explicit promise to use force against innocent people. Bachmann is pledging to use government force to repress speech, and relationships that the Bible frowns upon. Monogamy is nowhere mandated by the constitution. The government has no legitimate justification to push it. Polygamy between consenting adults simply doesn't involve a violation of rights. Marrying someone of the same sex simply doesn't harm anyone else. It isn't an initiation of force or fraud against anyone. Taking pictures of naked people certainly doesn't involve physical force or fraud, and so the government cannot do anything to restrict it in a free society. Abortion is perhaps the worst part of this pledge. I won't go too deep into detail on how monstrous prohibiting abortion is because so many have done so before. I highly recommend you check o | 8 7 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Objectivist Podcast - July 1, 2011 - Legalize Marijuana, Bankrupt Illinois Steals From Charity, George Soros Packs Courts, Mary | On today's podcast we've got good news, bad news, and weird news. We live in crazy times, so it's no surprise. The State of Illinois is so close to bankruptcy that they have "borrowed" money from charity to keep the lights on. They still aren't talking about spending cuts in the hopes that Obama will bail them out. A bail out of a state would just punish prudent states and reward irresponsible ones. Most of the states in big trouble are heavily democratic so you can expect quite a push to make it happen anyway. Maryland has added an "environmental literacy" requirement to graduate high school. What do you think the odds are that it will be even-handed and evidence based? Ron Paul and Barney Frank introduce a bill to legalize Marijuana. What an odd couple! I'm not going to complain about more freedom though. We wrap up by talking about George Soros' attempt to have more judges be appointed than elected. Apparently he can't get his agenda accomplished while the citizenry still possess that check on government power. Rational Public Radio takes the philosophy of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and applies to current events. We hope you enjoy this Objectivist podcast. We release this show free of charge. | 6 | 4 out 5 US Mosques Promote Violent Jihad | The reality is that Islam has declared war on the west. We can choose to ignore that face. We can choose to say that Islam isn't really like that. These are just the actions of a radical few. We can say it, but it is a lie. Even the "modern" Muslims in the United states attend mosques that overwhelmingly promote violent Jihad. A NYPD study found that "…51 percent of mosques had texts that either advocated the use of violence in the pursuit of a Shari‘a-based political order or advocated violent jihad as a duty that should be of paramount importance to a Muslim; 30 percent had only texts that were moderately supportive of violence like the Tafsir Ibn Kathir and Fiqh as-Sunna; 19 percent had no violent texts at all." In total, 81% of US Mosques are preaching violence to achieve political and religious goals. This may be surprising to you if you believed the lie about a peaceful religion being hijacked. Many Muslims do claim that they are working for peace, but they neglect to mention that they think peace will be achieved when Islam dominates the world. They imagine there will be peace when all infidels have been slaughtered or converted. If you think that is a perversion of the Koran's message, let's take a look at what the "holy" book says. They who disbelieve, and deny Our revelations, such are rightful Peoples of the Fire. They will abide therein. -2:39 Christians and Jews (who believe in only part of the Scripture), will suffer in this life and go to hell in the next. -2:85 They have incurred anger upon anger. For disbelievers is a shameful doom. -2:90 Allah will make disbelievers' lives miserable in this world and torture them forever after they die. -2:114 Kill disbelievers wherever you find them. If they attack you, then kill them. Such is the reward of disbelievers. -2:192 Allah says that you must keep fighting until there is no more persecution and everyone on earth is a Muslim. -2:193 War is ordained by Allah, and all Muslims must be willing to fight, whether they like it or not. 2:216 If you die fighting for Allah, you'll be rewarded in heaven. 3:157 Have no unbelieving friends. Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them. 4:89 Muslims that make friends with disbelievers will face a doom prepared for them by Allah. 5:80 Those who disbelieve will be forced to drink boiling water, and will face a painful doom. 6:70 When you fight with disbelievers, do not retreat. Those who do will go to hell. 8:15 If you refuse to fight, Allah will afflict you with a painful doom. 9:39 Believers must fight for Allah. They must kill and be killed , and are bound to do so by the Torah, Gospel, and Quran. 9:111 Those who oppose Islam will be slain with a fierce slaughter. 33:60 Smite the necks of the disbelievers whenever you fight against them. Those who die fighting for Allah will be rewarded. 47:4 This is the message of the Koran. This is why 81% of US Mosques are preaching violent Jihad. They are simply being honest faithful Muslims. It's simply impossible to follow the Koran without advocating the slaughter of all who deny Mohammad's divine message. The sooner we can admit this fact to ourselves, the sooner we can deal with the problem honestly. The way we are currently fighting is insane. It's as if we led a "police action" in Germany in 1941 trying to prosecute Blitzkrieg-ers. Oh no, we have no problem with Nazis, that is just a wholesome party trying to help the workers. We only have a problem with people who have hijacked Nazi-ism by advocating Blitzkrieg. If that was our plan, Hitler's descendants would rule all of Europe and maybe all of the world. The same thing will ultimately happen if we ignore the plain threat of Islam. We are at war with an violent ideology, and the sooner we can admit the obvious the sooner we can really fix the issue. This isn't to say I think all Muslims should be slaughtered. Far from it. However, the Muslim world desperately needs an enlightenment similar to the one undertaken by Chri | 30 6 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Objectivist Podcast - June 17, 2011 - Weiner, Ayn Rand, Jesus, ObamaCare, Sex Slavery | On the agenda for today: Obama's contempt for the constitution and congress. He's blatantly ignoring the war powers act. Of course congress is too cowardly to vote for war, so it's hard to blame him too much. We talk about Ayn Rand vs. Jesus. Is the GOP trying to have its cake and eat it too? More than a third of businesses expect to drop healthcare coverage in 2014 when Obamacare's uglier provisions start to take effect. Lastly, a Kuwaiti politician is calling for the legalization of sex slavery. Apparently female POWs are the best candidates for a life of rape and torment. She checked with Islamic clerics and scholars, and her idea is totally Koran approved. We release this show free of charge. Objectivist Podcast - June 8, 2011 - Presidential Hair, Greenspan, Earn Less, Israel | Next we move to Obamacare. The Solicitor General is claiming in court that the healthcare mandate isn't really a mandate. All you have to do to avoid it is earn less. It's a "let them eat cake" level of detachment from reality in today's economic climate. Finally, we get back to some international news. The Syrians are sacrificing their own people in order to paint Israel as the bad guy and regain the Golan heights. Of course, the only use they have for the Golan heights is to attack Israel. Doubtless, the world will blame Israel for the killings anyway. We release this show free of charge. Objectivist Podcast - June 5, 2011 - Iran, GOP Candidates, Sharia Law, Magic | Jeff and Scott were in a pretty good mood this week. They make fun of Ahmadinejad's problems with the Iranian parliament, and go on to lament the terrible GOP presidential candidate field. Things turn serious with a discussion of Sharia law and the death of Katya Koren. Have extremists hijacked a peaceful religion or does Islam really command death? | 13 | I'd Rather Have Obama Than Romney, And I Despise President Obama | However, in comparison to Mitt Romney the rest of the field looks quite appealing. The fact that Romney is allowed to be a member of the GOP at all, to say nothing of a presidential run, is a real indictment of the Republican Party. Polling currently shows Romney in a statistical tie for first place among hopeful contestants. That is simply amazing to me. Let's look at his record. He thinks Roe V Wade should be overturned, and abortion legality should turn back to a state issue. "While the nation remains so divided over abortion, I believe that the states, through the democratic process, should determine their own abortion laws and not have them dictated by judicial mandate." -Boston Globe, Op-Ed, July 26, 2005 Note his line of reasoning here. It could be applied to any "controversial" application of individual rights. He doesn't believe that any rights should be protected against majority opinion. If there is controversy, it should be a state by state question. That sounds like a recipe for exactly the sort of massive rights violations that the GOP is supposed to stand against. Imagine what California would do with "controversial" speech criticizing favorite left wing causes. Imagine what New Jersey would do to gun owners under such a system. Imagine what Chicago would do to anti-corruption crusaders. He is for abstinence only education in schools, despite the large body of evidence showing that it is worse than useless. It's analogous to a perpetual "just hold it" method of potty training toddlers. He wants prayer in schools. "We ought to allow ceremonies, graduation ceremonies and public events that we have the ability to recognize the Creator." He is an opponent of gun rights. He supported the Brady bill, and the "assault weapons" ban. He said, "We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them. I won't chip away at them; I believe they protect us and provide for our safety." Massachusetts famously has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Romney would gladly ally himself with democrats when it comes to violating the 2nd amendment. He's a strong opponent of medical marijuana. Exactly where he thinks the constitution grants the government the authority to prohibit medication is unclear. He invented, and still stands behind, Romneycare which was a model for the disastrous and unpopular Obamacare. Despite the building evidence that anthropogenic global warming is a scam, Romney stands behind it. ""I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that." That wouldn't be the end of the world if that was all he said. However he added this, ""It's important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may be significant contributors." Now, he is stating his support to violate individual rights, and strangle our wounded economy based upon what is very shaky science at best. The case for manmade global warming is far from over. None of the "climate change" models predicted the declining temperatures seen over the past decade. Even if the temperature is increasing, it hasn't been established that man is responsible for more than a few percent if it. Even if man is responsible for all of the increase, it hasn't been shown that warmer temperatures are a net negative. To stand at the end of that chain of assertions, and declare that the government must act to reduce C02 emissions (which can only mean reducing energy output or increasing its cost) is monumentally bad policy. To top it all off, Capitalism will doubtless take the blame for the inevitable failures of Romney's policies if he is elected. No matter how much Republicans intervene, meddle and spend, the public is convinced that everything they do is Capitalism. At least when Obama ruins the country the blame gets put in the right place. Objectivist Podcast - May 19, 2011 - Republican Candidates, Government Schools, Climate Change | Who is the Republican Party going to run against Obama in 2012? So far the field looks terribly disappointing. Is the GOP going to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again? We bring you more evidence of the indoctrination that is happening in government owned schools (aka public schools). This is the sort of thing that happens when you have a legally mandated monopoly. David Evans was a self-described climate change "alarmist", and now he is a "skeptic". Are the environmentalist rats fleeing the sinking ship of anthropogenic global warming?
