Noise rock unit Snapper was led by singer/guitarist Peter Gutteridge, an unsung hero of the New Zealand pop scene whose résumé included stints as a founding member of both the Clean and the Chills. Snapper evolved from the lineup of another Gutteridge-led band, the Dunedin-based Phromes, and the lineup featured on the group's excellent self-titled 1988 debut EP included organist Christine Voice, guitarist Dominic Stones, and drummer Alan Haig.
