Fantastic

If you wanted 36 minutes of fantastic music, this is it. It's unashamedly Pearl Jam without all of the experimental drivel that slows some albums down. Its fast, slow, fast and it ends. Perfect!!

Backspacer

The first 4 tracks introduce a distinct rock feel for Backspacer. A mix of Pearl Jam's traditional sound, but with a modern/more up beat feel. In particular radio friendly The Fixer and Got Some.

Just breathe takes things down a notch and is a sound likes something from Eddie Vedder's solo work on the Into the Wild soundtrack.

The remainder of the album has a softer rock feel, with the exception of the snappier Semisonic.

Standout tracks include Got Some, The Fixer, and Johnny Guitar

PJ's first Party Album

Back to their best? I don't think so. This is a very new direction for Pearl Jam and I like it. It certainly lacks any of the slow burners their other albums feature (often my favourite songs), there is not Nothing As It Seems, no Inside Job. Where these may have been they've been replaced by work heavily influenced by Eddie Vedder's recent solo work - no bad thing. But what's the rest of the album like.

Pearl Jam have dropped the art rock pretension and produced an album that wouldn't be out of place on the stereo at a Party. Again, no bad thing, we now have PJ albums for all occasions. So download it now, rock out and get your tickets for the shows in Nov. It's going to be a blast it seems!
