wow at this rate the blackseeds will be given a run for their money - salmonella light more like it - where has the dub gone

Different, But Is That Bad?

For me personally I enjoy Salmonella Dubs first albums the most, especially their first self titled album. If your really into world music you will like, especially "Regi Flute" on 'Dub For Straights". Since Tiki Taane joined there was a more 'dub' feel, and a more New Zealand 'Roots' feel which I loved, theres a connection between New Zealand and Salmonella Dubs music, its in the lyrics, the bass, the horns, the synths..everything!! And to be blunt Salmonellas new album has lost a lot of that connection, mayb because Tiki is no longer part of the group, I dunno. I agree with the last review in that it has gone less 'dub' and more 'pop' there is also a huge commercial feel about the album. Also some of the songs lyrics in "Rong" and "Beat The Game" I find irritating just because they repeat over and over again, hugely overdun. I bought the double CD so the second one is just a dub mix and its awsum!! For me the biggest disapointment is the song "Love Sunshine And Happiness". I cant understand what SDub were thinking, it lacks everything SDub had in previous albums. Neways its different but is it bad? I hope they bring out another album to see what path there going down, everyband has a bad album, The Red Hot Chili Peppers is Stadium Arcadium, Salmonella Dub its this one, however there still my favourite band! Peace

Great Album

It is great to see the Dub release another album, that builds on there talent. Not another same as before, the Dub have created a different sound and with lyrics. Well done, good to see bands move on from previous stuff.

Salmonella Dub got their name from the "bad-taste" dub versions of popular songs they used to break the ice in their early sets. In '90s New Zealand, dub/roots/reggae freak-outs weren't entirely in vogue — grunge and dance music held sway — so Salmonella Dub would use lighthearted covers of Nancy Sinatra and Dr. Hook...
