Album Review

Linkin Park originally called itself Hybrid Theory and has retained that phrase for the title of its debut album. The "hybrid" in question is one of rap and metal. The guitars and drums lock into standard thrash patterns, over which singer Chester Bennington and rapper Mike Shinoda alternate in furious expressions of rage and frustration. "One Step Closer," the track released to radio in advance of the album's release, is a typical effort, with lyrics like "Everything you say to me/Takes me one step closer to the edge/And I'm about to break."

Hybrid Theory

Linkin Park's debut album was an instant hit worldwide becoming the second biggest record in the year 2000 being only beaten by The Beatles' #1 record.
This album is currently the 26th best-selling record of all time, reaching number #1 in the NZ music charts, and why shouldn't it be with hits like In The End and One Step Closer.
As far as debut albums go, Linkin Park has obviously had the most success and with good reason.
Chester Bennington's vocals are full of raw energy and each note sung (or screamed) are hit perfectly which is all very well accompanied by Mike Shinoda's rapping.
The guitar adds a very heavy crunch factor to the album with DJ Joe Hahn adding a new layer to the album which completes the six piece band (although missing their current bassist Dave 'Phoenix' Farrell).
Also drummer, Rob Bourdon, finds a way to seemlessly combine the elements of hiphop and rock.
Personally, this is my favorite album of 2000 and I would definitely recommend it.

What happened to LP??!

This is by far the best album from the group, closely followed by Meteora. I am sad that the band is not making the same style of music that these two albums had.

Although rooted in alternative metal, Linkin Park became one of the most successful acts of the early 2000s by welcoming elements of hip-hop, modern rock, and atmospheric electronica into their music. The band's rise was indebted to the aggressive rap-rock movement made popular by the likes of Korn and Limp Bizkit, a movement that paired grunge's alienation with a bold, buzzing soundtrack. Linkin Park added a unique spin to that formula, however, focusing as much on the vocal interplay between singer...
