Bah Humbug!

This EP from The Phoenix Foundation falls victim to high expectations built over past releases, and the anticipation accumulated after a 24 month hiatus since their last release. ‘Merry Kriskmass’ fails to live up to the promise of the solo works released in 2009 by TPF band members. Apart from the curmudgeonly rant on consumerism 'Everybody's Money', this feels like a bunch of motley throwaway tunes and novelty songs left lying on the floor from more worthy Phoenix outings. Scott's vocals seem to lack conviction, and arrangements lack the spark and focus that usually grace the band's output. There's certainly nothing here that lives up to the halcyon spectrum that was 'Happy Ending’ or the brooding majesty of ‘Pegasus’.
