Evolution

I can assure you that every bad review of this album by a so-called Muse fan will be from people who jumped on the train at the station called Black Holes & Revelations. The Resistance once again proves that Muse are keen to evolve rather than regurgitating the same old material. There are hints of what has been, especially in tracks like MK Ultra and Uprising, but you also have original standouts like Undisclosed Desires. However, the sweetest part of the album comes from the climax: Exogenesis. If you have an open mind and don't demand Black Holes 2, this album is well worth the money.

Yes.. they've done it again.

Wow! The best work Muse has put together yet. If you've been following Muse for a while, this album has a style that feels a lot like Origin of Symmetry but with a fresh direction. The music flows beautifully, rather than the over-the-top extravaganza songs of from Absolution and Black Holes. Those albums, while instrumental at bringing international attention to the band, aren't the only sound they produce. This album reminds you of that fact.

To those who think Muse is "conforming" to main-stream.. the sounds here have never been considered main-stream - quite the opposite in fact (Muse have long been the kings of alternative) which is probably why you don't like the sound. While the superlative sounds of "Apocalypse Please", "Butterflies and Hurricanes" and "Take A Bow" are great as one-off tracks an album constructed entirely of this sound would quickly become boring.

Their trademark crescendo-building choruses are present in most tracks. Hints of a Queen influence once again abound, such as in "United States of Eurasia", "Unnatural Selection" and "Resistance". Black Holes fans will love the sound of "Uprising" and "MK Ultra". Most other tracks are great demonstrations of their breadth of talent, and the ofyssey of emotions that is "Exogensis" may well become their definitive work.

Conformity? No, Brilliant? Yes.

Muse have delivered a beautiful 5th. Its everything you want in an album, but not like anything you have ever heard. The Resistance has bought a new wave of alternate rock to the world. The three part symphony known as Exogenesis is amazing. This is a melodic experience, and if your ears had taste buds they'd be exploding and you will be left begging for more. A defininate must have for any muse fan.

Biography

Formed: 1997 in Teignmouth, Devon, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Muse's fusion of progressive rock, glam, electronica, and Radiohead-influenced experimentation is crafted by guitarist/vocalist Matthew Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer Dominic Howard. Bored by the sleepy life provided by their hometown of Teignmouth, Devon, the three British friends began playing music together. They started the first incarnation of their band while only 13 years old, changing the name of the group from Gothic Plague to Fixed Penalty to Rocket Baby Dolls as time...
