Sometimes they DO make 'em like they used to!

After a couple of less-than-stellar albums of down-tuned chug-a-lug, Slayer enlisted producer Greg Fieldman, went back to their roots and turned out an old-school sounding beast... World Painted Blood! Although a song as mediocre as 'Americon' (and maybe a couple of others written by Kerry King) shouldn't have made the cut, Unit 731, Psychopathy Red (inspired by Andrei Chikatilo) and Hate Worldwide are some of the most vicious, violent songs they've done for a long time.

Song-wise, it's the collaborations between Jeff Hanneman and Tom Araya that shine. As always (it goes without saying) Dave Lombardo delivers and shows why he's still among the elite of metal drummers. In summary while it may not be the masterpiece South Of Heaven was, it's an essential Slayer album for any Slayer fan.

Song name unit 731???

If people know what unit 731(Japanese CBW army)doing in china at WW II none of them will make this name. It's really hurting my feeling. I will never ever support this band.

Not sure I like this album...

Slayers early albums were far better, but there are some decent tracks such as the title track.

Biography

Formed: 1982 in Huntington Beach, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Slayer were one of the most distinctive, influential, and extreme thrash metal bands of the 1980s. Their graphic lyrics deal with everything from death and dismemberment to war and the horrors of hell. Their full-throttle velocity, wildly chaotic guitar solos, and powerful musical chops paint an effectively chilling sonic background for their obsessive chronicling of the dark side; this correspondence has helped Slayer's music hold up arguably better than the remaining Big Three '80s thrash outfits...
