- 1. "A Clockwork Orange (Beethoven - Finale 9th Symphony)" by London Philharmonic Orchestra: "There isn't enough music like this. When you bastardise classical music it sometimes frees it from the notion that it comes from a distant past and we can start to hear it as if it were fresh."
- 2. "If I Had a Hammer (Re-Recorded)" by Trini Lopez: "It's a party song about brotherhood."
- 3. "Kabuki Girl" by Descendents: "This is one of many great songs from the album Milo Goes to College. I could have chosen any song off that album."
- 4. "Dial 7 (Axioms of Creamy Spies)" by Digable Planets: "Why doesn't anybody listen to these guys anymore? They were awesome. This is from the slightly lesser known album Blowout Comb. The more famous one was called Reachin' (A Refutation of Time and Space)."
- 5. "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" by The Four Freshmen: "Brian Wilson learned everything he knows about vocal harmony from these guys, and then he just added some Phil Spector - and that’s how you get the Beach Boys."
- 6. "Bed for the Scraping" by Fugazi: "This song is sort of like the soundtrack to truth and determination."
- 7. "K-Mint (feat. the Electroluvs)" by Germlin: "I think basically Germlin is this kid on his laptop in England somewhere. His music is a bit of a mindf**k and is my favourite intersection between 8-bit chiptune and Warp-style glitch. He knows how to make a hook when he wants to, but often he would rather mess your head up. This track has it all though. Also I have no idea who the Electroluvs are, I think they're girls who sing."
- 8. "Take a Picture" by Margo Guryan: "Margo is pretty underrated. Her songs are so beautiful. She's kind of got that Zombies thing where the sixties mix with baroque music."
- 9. "Orphaned" by Max Tundra: "Max Tundra is another laptop wiz kid, but his influences are quite wide and varied. At times he sounds like Zappa, at other times like George Duke or Prince and always with a very hip electro undercurrent. He's one of those people you can flippantly call a genius and it's ok. The album is called Parallax Error Beheads You."
- 10. "I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass" by Nick Lowe: "Lowe produced some of Elvis Costello's best stuff and even wrote '(What's so Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding'. There is some of Costello's power pop appeal in this record but also some Berlin-trio-era Bowie going on in there too. His album Jesus of Cool is pretty solid."
- 11. "Random Rules" by Silver Jews: "The album American Water has some of the funniest and best lyrics ever."
- 12. "They Live By Night" by Soft Tags: "This is one of my favourite Portland bands. They use auto-tune to represent the voices of the minah birds in Aldous Huxley's Island when they say 'Here and now boys, Here and now'."
- 13. "Don't Shoot" by The Spits: "Like no other band, the Spits capture the spirit and power of the Ramones. It's not that they ape them in a retro kind of way, it's just that they get it and can do it."
- 14. "Open Society" by Squarepusher: "I'm not so sure about the whole album, but this track is really cool. It's classical guitar put through a digital wringer and disjointed by jazz knowledge."
- 15. "I Can Tell" by White Denim: "From Wikipedia: 'White Denim is a trio, hailing from Austin, Texas. They are known for taking influences of blues, soul, alternative rock and punk with a garage approach.'"
- 16. "De Kalb Blues" by Leadbelly: "Leadbelly is obviously amazing, but this particular track is just nuts."
