Podcast Description
Spartan Youth Radio is run by a group of students out of Espanola High School and provides an opportunity to create online audio programming about the issues that concern them and the interests they share. Over 40 students are currently involved in planning, writing, researching, recording and editing their own personal stories. The podcast also features stories on local issues and interviews with staff, students and celebrities such as Juno award winning blues rocker Derek Miller. "We have something for everyone," explains teacher advisor Jayson Stewart. "Whatever you're interested in, we can build a show around it. If you're interested in movies, you can write a review. If environmental issues are your concern of choice, you can do a documentary. Heavy metal is your thing, we've got a show for you. You're only limited by your creativity!" Spartan Youth Radio received start-up funds from the Rainbow District School Board's Innovation Fund but is now self-funded (in other words, "unfunded") and is always in need of sponsors.
