Free Stuff | As I announced, the last episode of the Art Marketing Action podcast is next week. This has been a complimentary audio program that I provided listeners with for more than 3.5 years. It got me thinking that now might be a good opportunity to remind you that there is a lot of other free stuff still available to you at artbizcoach.com, artbizblog.com, and artbizconnection.com. | 11/16/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Old-fashioned Marketing | If you're not embracing email, blogs, and social media to sell your art, follow the examples of Shelly Lewis Stanfield and Karen Bubb. You can do amazing things by using your mailing list, putting yourself out there, and going the traditional route. | 11/8/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Move On to Something New | The goal is never to work harder. It's to work smarter. We can only work so hard before maxing out. That's when it's time to move on to something new. The last Art Marketing Action Podcast will be broadcast on November 24, 2010. Is there something in your life that you need to release? Where do you need to move on? | 11/1/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Yes, Artists Still Need Blogs | Both your blog and Facebook allow you to update your followers. They give people a place to comment and for you to respond in turn. Both your blog and Facebook allow you to share images of your art. So far, they sound the same. But... and this is critical... Facebook can never replace your brand. Facebook is its own brand and cares only about promoting itself. | 10/25/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Marketing Isn't About You | Making art is all about you and what you have to say to the world. Marketing your art isn't about you. Marketing is about your audience and potential audience. You're aiming to connect with others. It's hard to connect if your marketing is I-centric. | 10/18/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Publicity Resources for Promoting an Art Event | Other people can help you promote your art events more effectively if you offer a stash of publicity resources for their use. Online media rooms on your site are a must-have, but you should also provide guidance for promoting specific exhibit openings, workshops, demonstrations, fundraisers, and performances. You must make it easy for others to promote you. When you want help spreading the word about your events, use this publicity checklist before asking for help. | 10/12/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Top Time-Savers for Your Art Business | The number one complaint I hear from artists is that they don't have enough time. Sometimes it's not so much a complaint, but a fear -- a fear that they'll be overwhelmed if they have to add one more business or marketing task to their list of things to do. We all have the same amount of time, but some of us have learned strategies to be more efficient. See if implementing one or more of these ideas can buy you some sanity. | 10/4/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Get Better Results with a Personal Plea | Bulk email messages can hit a lot of people at once, but your personal notes will elicit action. Whether you're telling people about a workshop, inviting them to an opening, or announcing a sale, a personal email (or letter or phone call) will garner far more attention than a mass announcement. Write to one person, address them by name, be clear on the call to action, and personalize the subject line. | 9/28/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
|
10 |
Redefine Your Mailing List | Your number 1 asset in your art business is the people you know and, more importantly, the people who know you. We group these people together, call them a "mailing list" and store their information in a database. If we're on top of things, we use that information from time to time. But if you use social media, you have contact with many more people than you have had in the past. The broad connections are important, but you can't neglect that core group of VIPs. | 9/20/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

11 |
Turn Friends Into Fans on Facebook | If you've been on Facebook for a while, you probably started with a (personal) profile and tried to friend as many people as possible. Then you realized that you need a business page because 1) business pages are public and are indexed by search engines, and 2) Facebook doesn't allow business promotions on profile pages. Now you're wondering how to get your friends to become fans. Here are seven steps to help you with the process. | 9/13/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

12 |
Add Photos of Your Art In Situ | Photographs of your art in situ add a whole new dimension to the presentation of your work. In art, in situ means the place where the artwork is installed or exhibited. Rather than showing the work by itself, photograph it in a likely environment. This podcast gives you some examples. | 9/6/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

13 |
Promote Your Art with SlideShare | It's easier than every to get a video online. Well, technically it's a video, but it consists of slides of your artwork. All you need are images of your work, access to Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote, and way to record audio if you choose to add it. These six steps will get you started using SlideShare. | 8/31/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

14 |
Review of Art Marketing | Marketing is a combination of everything you do to sell or gain recognition for your art. Most artists think of marketing in terms of self-promotion, like sending postcards or writing blog posts. But effective marketing is more comprehensive. Listen to this list and see where your art marketing might be falling short. | 8/23/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
|
15 |
Increase Business with Testimonials | Artists publish testimonials in brochures and on websites to share the experience clients have had with them. A powerful testimonial is particularly effective for artists who teach, accept commissions, and compete for public art projects. Let me show you the right way to ask for a testimonial and tell you why it works. | 8/17/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

16 |
Brag Better About Your Art, About You | Brag better about your art by spending time reviewing your accomplishments. If you can't stand the word "brag," just think of it as truth-telling. You're not going to embellish or lie about what you've been up to. You're just going to be able to provide a more coherent response that doesn't beat around the bush. These 12 questions adapted from Peggy Klaus will help you tell a better story. | 7/31/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Join the Conversation | Why sit back and wait to hear from an art gallery, curator, arts writer, art center or museum when you can connect through Web 2.0? Don't lurk on Facebook and twitter. Become a valuable contributor to the dialog. Join the conversation with galleries and other art world types through social media. Remember that social media is social. | 7/24/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

19 |
Conquer Doubt | A certain level of doubt can be useful motivation for your art career. Dwelling in doubt can be debilitating. Conquer the doubt. In my experience, it doesn't matter whether others believe in you or not. What matters is that you believe in yourself. | 7/10/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Second Step to Getting an Assistant | If you want to grow a profitable art business, you can't do everything yourself. The key to finding the perfect team to help you out is identifying which tasks could be managed by someone else. Hiring an assistant will bring you peace of mind that will allow you to focus on your art. | 7/3/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

8 Tips for Putting Your Art on Sale | Before you decide to have a sale, consider the ramifications it will have on your relationship with art galleries, collectors, and retailers. What is the reason for your sale? How will you notify your collectors? What language will you need to use on a special sales page on your website or blog? | 6/26/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

22 |
Meet New People | It's easier than ever to meet people, but it requires effort. The results will be worth your time. Don't lament that you're not connected. Do something about it! After you've identified people you'd like to get to know, embrace the attitude that you do not want anything immediately from them. You might request their opinions and ideas, but you will not be asking for a gallery exhibition, a feature article, or sponsorship. | 6/19/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

5 Reasons to Title Your Art | Are the titles of your artworks working for you? Do they help people relate to your art? Do they at least cause viewers to stop and think, "Hmmm . . . I wonder what that means"? Titles don't have to say everything, but they should say something. There are five very good reasons for spending time on your titles. | 6/12/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

24 |
Drive Traffic to Your Website | You can't just build a website and wait for the traffic to pick up. You have to encourage visits consistently. Look at your online presence, and check all of the details for each outlet. Are you driving traffic to your site wherever you can? | 6/5/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

25 |
Remember to Persevere | It's hard to keep going when your art isn't selling well. You could be bummed and negative that your art isn't getting the recognition you think it deserves OR you could invest in your future and persevere. I believe persistence is the number one reason most artists succeed. | 5/29/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

6 Reasons People Buy Art | Your art isn't for everyone. Once you understand this, you'll have an easier time finding the people who appreciate your work. The more people see your art, the more likely you are to hit upon someone who falls in love with it. Likewise, the more you get your art out into the world, the more you'll be able to direct your marketing message to the people who were meant to see it. | 5/22/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

27 |
Open Yourself to Possibility | Artists should practice saying "Yes, and . . ." It's hard to do, but it's powerful. Saying "Yes, and . . ." immediately changes your outlook from negative to positive. It opens up your world to other possibilities. | 5/8/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
|
28 |
Get Back in the Studio and Make Art | It's necessary to send out artist newsletters and email blasts, but that isn't your genius. The work that you do in the studio is more important than anything. It should always come first. | 5/1/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
|
29 |
Invite Your Friends to Join Your Newsletter List | Your friends are not open targets for bulk email messages. Ask them politely if they want to be included in your list and make it easy for them to subscribe. Remember to send them a sample of what they'll be receiving and tell them how often they can expect to hear from you. If they don't sign up the first time, email them again in 3-4 months. | 4/24/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
|
30 |
Implement a Postcard Strategy to Promote Your Art | Postcards are relatively inexpensive to print and mail. Yes, postcard mailings still cost money, but they're cheaper and more personal than buying an ad. Postcards are real mail sent to real people who know and like you. They have an image of your art on the front (hopefully with your name there, too) and are likely to stick around longer than email in an inbox. | 4/17/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
|
31 |
Placing Older Art On Your Website | Artists who are concerned about showing older work can give it secondary links from the primary art pages on a website. If you're proud of the work and it's still for sale, there's no reason to remove it from your site, but you might not want it featured. Use descriptive categories and treat every page as if someone might land there first -- before seeing the home page. | 4/10/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

32 |
Make It Easy for People to Promote Your Art | Artists: Do what you can to protect your images properly -- such as providing proper credit lines with every online image you post -- but don't be so fearful that you miss out on opportunities for others to promote your art for you. Make it easy to be talked about! | 4/3/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

The BEST
This podcast has been the most educational and has valuable information. Alyson is "straight to the point" with great examples and she talks "strictly art promotion". No jibba jabba. She mentions the little things which may be the most important. Any artist that is having an exhibit, well known or first time....this podcast is a MUST LISTEN TO!!
If you're an artist, this is a Must Listen
Alyson Stanfield is far and away the most knowledgeable business coach for artists out there today. Her podcasts and blog are jam-packed with valuable information that can help you move your art business forward. Of course, you still need to provide your own motivation to actually put her tips and plans into practice, but if you do, you'll see results and feel like you have some control over your art career! If you're serious about taking your art business to the next level, you owe it to yourself to subscribe.
Super informative!
Every week Alyson brings excellent, need-to-know information for artists. Overall I've found each podcast to be valuable to my artistic practice. A nice complement to Alyson's blog and tweets. A must listen.
