No Other Gospel | The gospel of Jesus Christ is not man's message, something to be tweaked to fit man's scheme for righteousness. Rather, it is from Jesus Christ, and any departure from his "revelation" is so serious as to merit a curse. Paul chastises the Galatians for abandoning Christ and his grace, cursing anyone peddling a different salvation message. | 5/13/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

And So They Ran | The pressure to earn our own way is so remarkable, and freedom and grace so frightening, that many run angrily away. | 5/6/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Be Transformed | All who follow Jesus are called to a radical abandonment of self through surrender to Him. We see in Romans 12:1-2 that this surrender to God demands that we resist being squeezed into the world’s mold. Every day the world’s system is pressing in and influencing us away from God. Moment by moment we have the opportunity to press back against the world’s system through the renewing of our minds by the power of the Holy Spirit. | 4/29/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

A Legacy Begins at Home | A recurring theme throughout the text of Scripture is one of disciple-making. Today, Pastor Matthew spoke of the necessity and the expectation throughout the Bible that this very disciple-making process begins at home. But beyond the expectation is the conviction that there is power in the disciple-making process when parents impress upon their children a legacy of faith. | 4/15/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Come Awake! | Despite the appearance of having it all together, many of us walk dizzily down life’s pathway unsure of where we are going, if what we do has any meaning, and if our lives have any real value. We are on a quest to awaken from the deep weariness of shame and powerlessness, but have no real idea how to do that or if it is even possible. | 4/8/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Zeal Deal | Whatever is worth doing in the Christian life is valuable enough to be done with enthusiasm and care. The whole truth of Paul’s teaching in Romans is to behave like a Christian, Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good,” (Romans 12:9). Part of daily Christian behavior is serving God and living an obedient life filled with zeal and fervency. | 3/18/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Rejoicing in Heaven | Jesus welcomed outcasts and the outcasts welcomed Him. They listened to His stories and responded. Meanwhile, the Pharisees grumbled at Jesus’ teaching. We see in Luke 15 that the religious leaders were out of sync with heaven. Jesus tells a story of a lost sheep and a lost coin and the joy that is experienced when these items are found. This joy is but a taste of the joy experienced when a lost sinner repents. All of heaven celebrates when sinners repent! | 1/1/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

I'm Yours | Forced from the comfortable confines of a resurgent Israel, Jonah come to terms with the fact that God's mercy is not bound by borders or position or even calamity. Glimpses of Jesus in the Midst of Calamity | The Book of Jonah is an amazing collection of snapshots of Jesus, seen along the way of Jonah's disobedience and Nineveh's resurgence. "Should I Not Pity?" | YHWH now chastises Jonah for a prejudicial attitude that compels Jonah to attend to the duty of the gospel without any genuine love of the people needing the gospel. | 10/23/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

28 |
To Nineveh! | YHWH now calls Jonah a second time to arise (cp. Downward Spiral) and go to Nineveh to call out its calamitous ways. In obedience Jonah goes, and the people respond with contrition, prompting God to "repent" of the calamity he was to have brought against them. | 10/16/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

31 |
The Downward Spiral | YHWH calls Jonah to call out the calamity which defined the people of Nineveh. But the mission violates Jonah's perception of the way the world works, and so he flees, embarking on a downward spiral that exposes the calamity of his own soul. | 9/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Hope Beyond the Rubble | Jesus stated that throughout life people will suffer trials, troubles and tribulations. The fundamental ground for endurance in trials, troubles and tribulations, that we all face, is the victory of Jesus over the world. Through impending death, Jesus Christ rendered the world’s opposition null and void. Those who trust Christ as Savior have a continuing God given “peace” that leads to eternal hope even in the midst of life’s tribulations. While the world continues to attack His people, such attacks fall harmlessly, for Christ’s victory has already accomplished a smashing defeat of the whole evil rebellious system. Those who rest in the promises of God can have genuine peace, strength and hope during the storms of life. | 9/11/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Discipleship Begins at Home | This is Moses’ farewell address to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land. At this point the Israelites are still wandering in the desert because they had disobeyed God and refused to enter the Promised Land because they were afraid of the powerful nations living in Canaan. Moses is now addressing the children of the parents who had rebelled against God 40 years earlier. In Deuteronomy 6, Moses lays out a clear and concise message to the nation of Israel of the proper priorities they should embrace: (1) God is always the highest priority (Vv. 4-5); (2) the role of the parents who love, follow & obey God are to invest those biblical principles, morals and ethics into their children (Vv.6-8); (3) the entire faith community is to participate in the discipleship of God’s people (Vv. 10-15). | 8/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Big Picture | From the beginning of creation in Genesis chapter 1 until the end of the universe as we know it in Revelation 21 & 22, when God creates a “new heaven and a new earth,” God has a master plan, a “Big Picture” that He has communicated with mankind through His Word. Within God’s “Big Picture” is mankind, whom He has ordained to be His ambassadors, His workers to be used to fulfill His kingdom for His glory. | 7/31/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Who is my Neighbor? | The Good Samaritan story follows on the footsteps of Jesus’ teaching with the 72 who have just gone out and returned from ministering in Jesus’ name. Filled with joy and praising God, they are interrupted by the question of a legal expert seeking to test Jesus. Through Jesus’ response, Luke emphasizes hearing and then doing. God’s Word is evidence of faithfulness to God. Love of neighbor flows out of radical love of God. | 7/24/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Lie #4: Tolerance is More Important Than Righteousness | It has become commonplace in churches today to replace distinctly biblical values with values that the public square perceives to be correct. When this happens it is done under the auspices of tolerance, and any challenge to this is considered to be naïve at best and mean-spirited at worst. Indeed, churches embracing this notion of tolerance suggest that by so doing they are loving and liberating and that this is exactly what Jesus would want. But while such thinking can be alluring, Jesus himself declares that churches going this direction are “seducing my servants” and must, therefore, “repent” (Revelation 2:20, 21). | 8/22/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
|
85 |
Lie #3: Tradition Trumps the Mission | Ironically enough one of the greatest threats to the health of the church today is, well, the church itself and its tendency to bask in its own glory; to supplant its unique mission with the status quo; to live in its past successes (and sometimes failures) while refusing availability to the high calling it has in this very moment to lead on the edge of hope with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Choosing tradition over the mission is evil and destructive, and echoes the activities of the Pharisees of old, to whom Jesus offered this penetrating rebuke: for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God (Matthew 15:6). | 8/15/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

86 |
Lie #2: Unity is More Important than Theology | In a world where religions can violently clash with one another, and where a hunger for justice and harmony is strong, seeking unity over doctrinal differences is appealing and even welcome. And yet, just as a house without a strong foundation will fracture or perhaps even fall, so too will followers of Christ who lack a solid theological underpinning. The idea that unity is more important than theology can be alluring, but the reality is it is naïve, divisive, and, frankly, dangerous, leaving people like “waterless clouds, swept along by winds” (Jude 12). | 8/8/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
