| 1 | VideoImproving health care in Afghanistan | There are factors that contribute to this dire situation. Not all communities have a local midwife who can assist in the delivery of a baby. Quality health care providers, especially women, are often limited and, health clinics are scarce in more remote areas. Improving access to health care has remained a priority for the Government of Afghanistan. With Canada’s support, there is progress. | 2 | VideoImproving the Lives of Afghan Women and Girls | Barriers to education, health care and economic opportunity, as well as significant challenges to their human rights limited their ability to actively participate in their communities. Thanks to the dedication of Afghans, and with the support of countries such as Canada, there are now opportunities for Afghan women and girls to overcome some of these obstacles. | 3 | VideoHelping Feed Afghanistan’s Most Vulnerable People | Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Millions of Afghans struggle to meet their most basic needs, and they are severely affected by chronic food shortages. Many Afghans still rely on traditional livelihoods, such as farming, to feed their families. Their efforts are hampered by the country’s crumbling infrastructure and frequent droughts. Rising food prices also make it difficult to buy enough food to feed a family. | 4 | VideoCanada Supports Education in Afghanistan | According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: “Every child has the right to an education,” and, Article Forty-Three of the Afghan Constitution states: “Education is the right of all citizens of Afghanistan”. With a shortage of schools and teachers, children had little chance of obtaining an education. For the children who lived in remote areas, these shortages were even more prevalent. Too often, this lack of education kept children at home. For more information, including email and podcast updates, visit: www.afghanistan.gc.ca | 4/2/12 | Free | View In iTunes |
