Podcast 106 - February 7th, 2012 | Brand-new podcast with our most shocking revelation ever - Scott has prepared something for the show! Scott also has ANOTHER tease (and it's not the usual mean-spirited stuff Ed is subject to): Plans for a new headquarters revealed! There's also some comic news - in the headlines this week: comic fans had many reasons to watch the Super Bowl, as many comic properties were featured in 30 second bursts; Barnes and Noble versus Amazon sees another salvo; the unfortunate passing of artist Al Rio; the world trembles as DC Comics unveils their "Before Watchmen" series, and Alan Moore SPEAKS; the Batmobile is now protected by copyright; DC slowly releases some digital sales info; an analysis of January's comic sales from our resident economics guru, Erotic Ed; and made up facts on the Neil Gaiman vs. Todd McFarlane settlement! NEW FEATURES! ACTUAL SOUNDS FROM THE COMIC STORE featuring "Friend-of-theShow" Jeff Black! In this segment, Jeff defends the new Peanuts series from the horrible, horrible things Scott said about it! DO NOT MISS the explosive finale! Scott vs. Erotic Ed! Who was right about the sexual overtones in the series that comprise (affectionately) DC's "Erotic Corner?" Scott employs the SCIENTIFIC METHOD to get answers and (hopefully) shove it in the Erotic One's face! Seriously, the guy brought a notebook, used a control in his experiment, and actually cited things. Amazing work, really. Wish he did it more often. He doesn't read this, so... | 2/9/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast 99 - December 6th, 2011 | How far can the Dysfunctional Duo of Scott and Ed push Matt's buttons? They have noticed how their Engineer Extraordinaire has been a little more irascible of late, and make it their new-found goal to find his limits. While they establish a "safe word," they reminisce on the many times this trio went out of their way to make each other uncomfortable: Remember the time Matt touched Ed's food? Was it the time someone put extra MAYONNAISE on Ed's sub sandwich? Ed continues to be "beat down" by his peers! Such merriment is soon channeled into a (lengthy) discussion of the holiday season: Imagine Scott as Santa Claus! Hear the (relatively incorrect) history of Santa Claus! REJOICE in the revelation that Ed does his research on Wikipedia! When the safe word is finally uttered, the podcast returns to it's chosen medium: COMIC BOOKS! Podcast 91 - October 11th, 2011 | We interrupt our regularly scheduled podcast to bring you an in-depth look at the DCnU! Scott, Matt and Ed invite their good friend, Mike SanGiacomo (Cleveland Plain Dealer, Phantom Jack, Tales of the Starlight Drive-In), to share thoughts and feelings about the recent relaunch! ADDITIONALLY, local Cleveland comic fans were polled to share their thoughts on the slew of #1's! Which three books were the most loved? Which three were universally disliked? Which titles are seemingly closest to cancellation? Which had the most surprising (and unsurprising) changes? Did DC Comics do enough in September to FINALLY beat out Marvel Comics strangle-hold of the market share? Which books will we still be reading by issue #4? Which characters are still missing? Why did ED continuously tell Scott he was wrong? There were A LOT of comics to take in (well, 52, to be exact); see what comics fans LIKE YOU had to say about them! (There is also some BONUS CONTENT: Not wanting to be outdone, a certain team-centric movie by a certain comic company debuted a BRAND SPANKING new trailer! HEAR these podcasters' reactions!) Podcast 89 - September 27th, 2011 | Even though there is YET ANOTHER slew of DC #1's, this promised to be one of the dullest weeks in recent memory! Scott is SO TIRED! He needed an entire 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke to make it through what promises to be a rather dull podcast! We even have a theme song for him! Luckily Matt and Ed are there to provide the much-needed spark to talk about the latest and greatest in the world of COMIC BOOKS! Despite the lack of strong headlines, SOMEHOW we still managed to make a REGULAR-SIZED podcast out of this crap! In the FOUR headlines this week: DC Comics is proud to announce that ALL of their 52 #1 comics will have a second printing; the 84 year-old artist behind "Asterix the Gaul" has announced his retirement; the Italian comic writer and publisher behind the original "Dylan Dog" has passed away; and more casting announcements for the new Superman movie! There's also the first appearance of "DC's Erotic Corner" and the latest appearance of the mysterious (and nausea-inducing) "Bencidamus!" The boys take a moment and do some fearless prognosticating and prediction-making! Finally: Hear an on-air commercial for Matt's engineering expertise! | 9/27/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast 88 - September 20th, 2011 | There's A LOT to talk about this week, but SOMEHOW Scott, Matt and Ed manage to rehash the last three weeks of non-comics related material! That's right, the twentieth anniversary of Nirvana "Nevermind" AND another wave of DC Comics' DCnU take the backseat to other topics! Thankfully this lunacy comes to an end as Scott, Matt, and Ed finally return to the task at hand: discussing the latest and greatest in the world of COMIC BOOKS! In the headlines this week: a creative shake-up at DC Comics as a writer for the DCnU decides to leave his book; Marvel announces that their digital comic, "Ultimate Comics Spider-Man" is their top seller to date; "The Spectre" is in development for Fox as a television show; the massive multi-player online RPG "DC Universe Online" announces it will soon be available FOR FREE (while some services will still require a payment, you WILL be able to enjoy the game at no cost! Podcast 87 - September 13th, 2011 | Scott has no new comics of his own due to overwhelming demand! Sellouts abound! The first wave of DC Comics' "DCnU" leaves an unwitting nation reeling! Scott has A LOT of feelings on this matter, being Cleveland's most jovial, jolly, and occasionally maudlin comic store owner! Matt and Ed are, once again, just along for the ride! Scott also finds the time to answer an age-old question: Does a house need "A big freaking refrigerator?" Scott's downsizing, and feels that he is being unfairly prosecuted! It's another step closer to his dream of living in a "tiny house!" (Actual Scott quote: "I stare at those sheds in front of Home Depot, convinced I can live in one.") It's not all doom and gloom, however: WE'VE GOT COMICS! In the headlines this week: A comic shop owner in North Carolina boycotts Grant Morrison comics after a perceived blasphemous comment in Action Comics #1; DC Comics pays money to have Twitter searches with Marvel characters link back to their "Promoted Tweets;" the passing of Cliff Robertson (Uncle Ben in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" movies); Comixology sells LOTS of digital comics; second printings for DC comics that HAVEN'T EVEN ARRIVED AT STORES; an educational comic from the CDC; Jeph Loeb is bringing Cable back (because YOU demanded it!); a brilliant comic store owner uses stomach punches to motivate sales; and August's sales numbers from our resident mathematician, Edward Benci! (Disclaimer: we must take this opportunity to remind you that the expressed opinion of any member of this podcast does NOT reflect the opinions of all three unless otherwise stated. Thank-you.) Comics discussed from the last week include Lois Lane and the Resistance #1, Reverse Flash #1, Kid Flash Lost #1, The Outsider #1, Superman #712, Ultimate Spider-Man #160, Mighty Thor #3, Captain America #619, Secret Avengers #12, Fables #106, Metal Hurlant HC, Scary Godmother SC, and IDW's Miss Fury HC! Podcast 75 - June 21st, 2011 | "Ladies and gentlemen, silence your cellphones." For 75 episodes, Ed has begun each podcast with this phrase. One question, though: where are all these hypothetical ladies? This prompts these fearless podcasters to launch yet another hastily-conceived contest: WIN A DATE WITH ED! Simply send an e-mail to podcast@astoundpop.com with a picture and an entertaining reason on why you would like to date COMICS ARE GO's resident heartthrob! (To be fair, we cannot guarantee Ed will show up for this proposed date; he is amazingly non-committal.) After most of the conditions are discussed, the gang returns to their mission: to discuss the latest and greatest (sometimes lamest) in the world of COMIC BOOKS! In the headlines this week: an update from everybody's favorite, the Winnie-the-Pooh lawyer; Green Lantern's first weekend in theater's is considerably less than successful; "Uncanny X-Men" is being canceled, then, RELAUNCHED AS TWO SEPERATE SERIES (honestly, nothing is shocking anymore); director James Mangold has been hired to direct "The Wolverine;" Russell Crowe has been hired to play Jor-El in the upcoming "Man of Steel" (which means both Superman's real father and adopted father have played big-screen versions of Robin Hood); Frank Miller's long-awaited opus "Holy Terror" is going to print; the climax of the "Death of Spider-Man" story-line is spoiled for readers (but honestly, given the title, how mad can the readers be?); digital video game sales see a increase, along with the amount of female gamers! THAT'S A LOT OF CONTENT! Comics discussed from the past week include: Wonder Woman and the Furies #1, Deadman and the Flying Graysons #1, Legion of Doom #1, Grodd of War #1, Avengers #14, Invincible Iron Man #505, Uncanny X-Men #538, Power Girl #25, Alpha Flight #1, and Godzilla: Gangsters and Goliaths #1! THAT'S A LOT OF COMICS! As usual, Scott has "things to do," leaving Matt and Ed to discuss the Green Lantern movie! This lovely conversation occurs toward the end, so DON'T MISS IT! | 6/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast 74 - June 14th, 2011 | A rare morning recording! This doesn't happen often; not only does it cause these fearless podcasters to act a little more "loopy" than normal, it is also the bane of Ed's existence! "Jazzed up on coffee and caffeine," join the Comics Are Go trio as they witness the birth of "NostraBenci" and talk about COMICS! In the headlines last week: "Super 8" comes in at number one for it's opening weekend; film companies decide NOT to have a major presence at San Diego Comic Con; Utah creates a law to regulate internet speech that might be considered "harmful;" Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" in development for HBO; multiple comic companies producing comics based on an Edgar Rice Burroughs property, but only one is "official canon;" the announcement that "Uncanny X-Men" will END in October; Marvel is producing a new Spider-Man comic (whose artist may cause you to shake your head); "Beasts of Burden" being developed as a CGI movie; the latest on the DC relaunch; and May's sales numbers! Recent events have brought back Mike SanGiacomo, writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and author of "Tales of the Starlight Drive-In" and "Phantom Jack!" Mike has an AWESOME amount of news, including a tidbit about WHERE to be in Cleveland on Monday, June 14th if you are a Green Lantern fan (and have the Green Lantern oath memorized)! The biggest reason Mike dropped in was to give his view on DC's recent barrage of announcements, and he has a LOT to say about it! In order to prepare you, the listener, in the event of your being passed by the Rapture, Scott lets Ed practice his part on the show! LISTEN as Ed discusses his plans for a Scott-less world! MARVEL at Ed's CLEAR and CONCISE delivery! BE ASTOUNDED by Ed's fascination by the year 2011! (Judging by this episode, let's all hope that world does not, in fact, end on May 21st. Podcast 69 - May 10th, 2011 | Somehow this podcast begins with an extensive discussion of which podcaster would emerge from full-blown fisticuffs! There seems to be a lot of animosity in the Astound Association these days! UNMITIGATED! As Scott continues his slow death, he contemplates which fellow podcaster he would bequeath his wealth to, resulting in (yet another) fantasy about steel cage death-matches and urban survival! This topic receives no resolution; weigh in with an e-mail, on Facebook, or Twitter! WHO WOULD WIN?!? All of this fascinating discourse is lost as the Boys return to their weekly mission - To discuss the newest and coolest in the world of COMIC BOOKS! In the headlines this week: Thor (The Movie) is a smash hit; Neil Gaiman under fire from Minnesota lawmakers; Frank Miller art sells for A LOTTA MONEY; special variants announced for "The Amazing Spider-Man #666; "Spider-Man - Turn Off the Dark" returns - WITH EXTRAS; Disney decrees that Marvel's superhero content must originate in the US; and lots of movie news (Akira! Comics discussed from the past week include: Fear Itself #2, Moon Knight #1, Herc #2, Jonah Hex #67, Freedom Fighters #9, Axe Cop #3, and the Bat Boy hardcover by Peter Bagge. ALL of this AND shout-outs to Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Grey, and the Pop Comic Club in Parma along with hints about big announcements! DOWNLOAD NOW! Podcast 68 - May 3rd, 2011 | The superb Cleveland weather takes it's toll on your favorite podcasters! As Scott slowly dies from his mystery illness, the Astound Division contemplates a format change. No more comic books; instead, a general format show that would give them the opportunity to cover a broader range of topics (i.e. "What's wrong with Matt?" and "Why are Matt and Ed trying to slowly kill Scott?"). SOMEHOW these Champions of Podcasting pull themselves BACK IN to the unforgiving realm of COMIC BOOKS, their TRUE CALLING! As things get back to normal, Scott BRAGS about how he has seen the Thor movie a full week before his lowly peons can see it for themselves. Braggart. In the headlines this week: Animated Green Lantern displays are on fire (literally); the Thor movie enjoys success in other parts of the world (who get to see it before Matt and Ed do); more casting news for Superman; a special effects budget increase for Green Lantern; more troubles for Borders; more digital comics news (as usual); new Ultimate Marvel announcements; and the first revelations for the upcoming "Marvel MMO!" In the (Scott-penned) headlines this week: Thor debuts strongly in Australia; more trailers from Green Lantern, Cowboys and Aliens, and X-Men: First Class; Chris Evans and Samuel L. Podcast 65 - April 12th, 2011 | This week Scott and Ed compare Matt, their Engineer Extraordinaire, to cinema's most amazing and effective engineer: Scotty, from Star Trek! While the true reasoning for such a comparison apparently doesn't phase Matt, the Astound Amalgamation refuses to practice their fake accents in an effort to avoid hate mail about cultural insensitivity! That's not the hate mail we want: we want hate mail about how you actually hate us! We'll read it on the air and frame it! All YOU have to do is physically mail us your hate! IT'S THAT EASY! If you stick around for the podcast (after you've written your letter), the Lads eventually DO get to COMIC BOOKS. In the headlines this week: The stolen copy of Action Comics #1 once owned by Nicolas Cage miraculously turns up; an original convention sketch by Ethan Van Sciver also resurfaces (what's the deal with criminals nowadays? Scott has a PSA for YOU!); the tragic beating and death of an elderly comic book collector; lots of movie news (Thor footage! General Zod!); injuries on the set of DC's Green Lantern movie; the orders for Free Comic Book Day shatter records; Marvel and Disney will soon be offering more...offerings; IDW rolls out some high-quality products; Forbes Mgazine (somehow) concocts a list of the wealthiest fictional characters; Mark Millar shills more comics; and TV's Wonder Woman will feature more than one costume! Podcast 64 - April 5th, 2011 | HELLO CLEVELAND! The Astound Association (Scott, Matt, and Ed) recorded this podcast LIVE on stage at Case Western Reserve University! Two classes, currently studying characterization in COMIC BOOKS and taught by Brad Ricca and Mike SanGiacomo, sit in and share their thoughts on recent topics in the world of comic books! The humble members of this podcast have nothing but THANKS for EVERYONE involved and their AWESOME FEEDBACK and COMMENTARY! In the headlines this week: the recently departed widow of Jerry Siegel reaches out to Warner Communications; brand-new footage from the upcoming Green Lantern (four minutes from WonderCon!), Thor, and Captain America movies available online (there were A LOT of comments and observations for these trailers, and it takes up A GOOD chuck of the podcast); an original page of art by Frank Miller is expected to sell for over $100,000 at auction; and DC Comics announces "Retro-Active" one-shots that will bring back writers and artists from the '60's, '70's, and '80's! It doesn't seem like a lot of content this week, but we had SUCH a GOOD time that we quickly reached our time limit! We simply can't thank Mike and Brad enough, and look forward to the opportunity to do it again! (Engineer's Notes: This podcast was taped in front of a live, studio audience. Scott often refers to his difficulty speaking, which is due in large part to the Mexican wrestling mask the students had voted for him to wear.) ENJOY! | 4/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Due to his position at the Cleveland Plain Dealer (AND his honorary Avengers membership card), Mike will be the go-to guy for all Avengers news and various other tidbits (he is NOT, however, the guy to call or e-mail if you want to be an extra - much to Matt's chagrin...). Mike also sheds some insights into the recent death of the legendary JoAnne Siegel and his plans for C2E2! Don't miss this! Joe movie revealed (for the two of you who care); and Marvel continues to roll out digital exclusive comics, this time featuring Bravo TV's Top Chef! BEHOLD THE COMICS REVIEW SESSION THAT FEATURES: a podcaster walking out! WHO WILL IT BE? Which comic drives him to the brink? Podcast 54 - January 25th, 2011 | The shocking fallout of the "Hot Liquid" scandal CONTINUES HERE! Hear firsthand how this horrible moment in podcasting has effect not only the valiant Astound Three, but also their good friend and harshest critic, Chris Caffarel. Matt shares how he has coped with the shock and horror (after the vomiting, of course): by turning the "Hot Liquid" sound clip into a dancehall-ready JAM! Slightly less horrifying but, never-the-less just as important and shocking, is this week's comic book news! In this week's headlines: Wizard Magazine announces it will cease to exist as a magazine; the Wonder Woman TV series gets a second lease on life courtesy of NBC; Christopher "The Master" Nolan shocks the fanboy nation by announcing the casting for "The Dark Knight Rises;" new images continue to emerge from Marvel's summer movie onslaught (and some are less than impressive); Christopher Nolan gets snubbed by the Oscar nominating committee AND America gets snubbed by foreign countries (apparently SOME countries wouldn't see a movie titled "Captain America;" a new, naughty Superman film will be available at the end of the month; the Comics Code Authority is dropped by a comic company (or two); and Ed gives an EXPLETIVE FILLED RANT about Marvel releasing their most important news story of the week a little prematurely, effectively ending the surprise for news-savvy Ed. THE TYRANNY MUST END! Following some discussion of the recent revelations that "Fear Itself," Marvel's summer event, will contain VAMPIRES, these intrepid podcasters jump into the COMICS from the previous week! Comics discussed include Brightest Day #18, Green Lantern Corps #56, Batman #706, Invincible Iron Man #500, Thor #619, Amazing Spider-Man #652, X-Factor #214, Buffy The Vampire Slayer #20, Power Girl #20, and Starman Omnibus Volume 6! Podcast 53 - January 18th, 2011 | This week's podcast starts with DANCING! HEAR the reasons why Scott loses interest in social media and card games (especially his methods for defeating children at them)! This episode isn't all fun and games, however. The Astound Triumvirate welcome "Local Podcast Listener" Jeff Black to discuss COMICS! In the news this week: Diamond Book Distributors stop shipping new books to Borders; a comic company fully embraces the possibilities of digital comic distribution; more Captain America and Spider-Man movie images appear on the information superhighway; promotional images from DC's "Flashpoint" event emerge to whet fanboy appetites; the creator for the rejected Wonder Woman TV pilot promises a return; and Marvel's Thor comic reverts to issue #1! GROUNDBREAKING! This (almost) super-group also discusses comics from the previous week, including: Justice League: Generation Lost #17, Batman and Robin #19, Birds of Prey #9, Secret Six #29, Amazing Spider-Man #651, Daredevil Reborn #1, Superman #707, Heroes for Hire #2, Starman and Congorilla #1, and the Sixth Gun TPB from Oni Press! Podcast 51 - January 4th, 2011 | ONE WEEK CLOSER TO THE ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF COMICS ARE GO! While Scott, Matt, and Ed discuss when exactly their one year anniversary of fearless podcasting actually occurs, they decide that Matt needs a more clear and concise method of starting the podcast. While hand signals have proven to be erratic at best (leading to at least three false starts this week alone), Scott and Ed decide that the most effective way to announce the commencement of the recording session is to have Matt dance. NOT JUST ANY DANCE, MIND YOU! You WILL NOT BELIEVE what these masochists have in store for Engineer Extraordinaire Matt! Plus: Ed is a pagan! Check out his MAD, MAD end-of-the-world prophecies! OH, YEAH, THERE'S ALSO COMICS! In the news this week: Axel Alonso named new editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics as Joe Quesada is promoted to chief creative officer; the announcement that Manga is still popular in a very unlikely place and amongst a very unlikely demographic; DC Comics' announcement that they will soon be reviving their letters pages; and a new Red Lantern-centric comic from writer Peter Milligan! The Astound Conglomerate also take a look at the comics from last week including David Finch's Dark Knight #1, Green Lantern #61, Flash #8, Detective Comics #872, Avengers #8, Shield #4, Ultimate Thor #3, Captain America #613, Nemesis #4, and Hellboy: The Sleeping and the Dead! PLUS a look at the comics for the following week! THE FUTURE! Comics are good for you! Delayed by the Thanksgiving holiday, these intrepid podcasters tackle the difficult subject of...THE WALKING DEAD TELEVISION SHOW! Oh, and the the potential awfulness of the Spider-Man Broadway Musical (as evidenced by the recent preview shows; highlights include the phrases "confusing plot," "sticky situations," and "dangling actors"). Seriously, it was a painfully slow news week, and it didn't help that the show's main news gopher was infected by the ZOMBIE VIRUS! So, in lieu of comic news, the boys decide to hit the week's COMICS! After Scott THOROUGHLY creeps out his fellow podcasters, the Astound Troika welcome back Cleveland area writer Mike SanGiacomo! You may remember Mike from such titles as Tales of the Starlight Drive-In and Phantom Jack (including the recently released Nowhere Man Agenda), as well as his day job with the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper! Mike talks about Cleveland's Siegel and Shuster Society (VERY intriguing stuff about Superman's ties to the city of Cleveland, the efforts to save the house where Jerry Siegel first created Superman, and the various attempts to create Superman statues and other monuments in the city), his favorite current comics, and the new trailers for the upcoming movies, Green Lantern and Cowboys and Aliens. Be sure to check out Mike's work at www.talesofthestarlightdrivein.com and support our local creators! After this SUPERB interview, the Terrific Trio manage to find time to discuss the week's COMICS! Podcast 44 - November 11th, 2010 | BOILING POINTS! Beginning with a rousing discussion of why Scott's pancreas does not make for good podcast material, the Astound Triumvirate lay out for you, the listener, the policy concerning insults for the show. STAY TUNED, because LIMITS ARE REACHED! A PODCASTER GETS ANGRY! This time it's not Matt! (Engineer's Note: While the insults were not recorded, the ensuing melee was captured as a learning tool to prevent future hurt feelings and serve as darn funny podcasting.) MEANWHILE, the Three Amigos (with a super awesome assist from Mr. Greg Baker, easily astonished author and former mystery guest) bring you the week's COMIC NEWS, including the announcement of the renewal of the Walking Dead TV series for a second season (an excellent decision, of course), J. Michael Stracynski's complete abandonment of monthly titles Superman and Wonder Woman to focus on graphic novels, DC Comics' launch of a digital marketplace store front on their website, and the top-selling comics and graphic novels of October. Amidst the anger and apologies, the lads even find time to discuss COMICS from the past week! Notable titles include Amazing Spider-Man #648 (the first issue of Dan Slott's "Big Time"), Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #6 (in which questions are answered and, typical in a Grant Morrison comic, merits a complete series re-read), Justice League: Generation Lost #13 (in which A LOT of stuff happened), and Ultimate Thor #2! Two AWESOME guest stars deign to give the Astound Triad an interview, to honor the release of their new book, "Silly Rhymes for Belligerent Children!" Author Trace Beaulieu (whom you may remember as Crow T. Robot and Dr. Clayton Forrester on "Mystery Science Theater 3000," as a semi-regular work on the television series "Freaks and Geeks," a regular on "Cinematic Titanic;" check him out at tracebeaulieu.com) and illustrator Len Peralta (renowned local artist, creator of the Geek a Week Challenge at geekaweek.net, podcaster at jawboneradio.blogspot.com, and illustrator for the stars; YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT www.lenperalta.com) check in and discuss why their new book is a must buy for any comics fan, parent, child...well, everybody should check out this book! Scott, Matt, and Ed are barely able to contain themselves in anticipation, but somehow manage to bring you COMIC-THEMED NEWS! In the headlines this week: DC Comics dropping the prices of their non-event comics to a $2.99 price point (by sacrificing 2 pages of story); Marvel announcing (a mere two hours later) that they TOO would be dropping the cost of "new" comics to $2.99; artist Steve Rude auctions off art to help save his home; Zach Snyder signs on to direct the upcoming Superman movie reboot; David E. Podcast 37 - September 23rd, 2010 | The Astound Conglomerate once again unite, only this time UNDER EXTREME DURESS! Scott and Ed admit to having a hard time focusing BECAUSE...Matt refuses to divulge the results of their NFL Picks for week two! Despite the distraction, and perhaps driven by the thirst for knowledge and respectability, the Terrific Trio carry on to bring YOU comics, and comic related news! In the HEADLINES this week: major geographical news for DC Comics (featuring the debut of Ed's "Sultry Voice;" not for the faint of heart), more news concerning pirate comics (or comic piracy; Matt's love of the pirate genre makes these stories a little confusing), five new new What If? stories from the House of Ideas (you just keeping on bringing the originality, Marvel Comics), the 10 worst celebrity business owners (featuring a former Marvel editor-in-chief, a baseball MVP, a rap mogul, a disgraced televangelist, and some other "celebrities"), the impending debut of the ABC "dramedy" entitled "No Ordinary Family" (starring Michael "The Thing" Chiklis and sharing some details with Marvel's First Family), cameos by President Obama and Sarah Palin in Archie Comics, and the Tweets of the Week (featuring our favorite celebrity Tweeter)! Podcast 36 - September 16th, 2010 | The Astound informal combo reunite for the second time in three days to bring YOU exactly what you need to hear: commentary on LOCAL FAST FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS! It seems Scott is quite peeved at a certain restaurant that, despite it's amazingly close proximity to Astound Comics (in beautiful Westlake, Ohio) he never seems to have a quality experience. Along with AMAZING social commentary, the boys also bring you COMIC RELATED NEWS! Including: the US Air Force and their awe-inspiring BATMAN (the acronym will blow your mind), bronchitis blamed for delays of Superman comics (seriously!), William S. Burroughs lost novel is found (not by Scott), Mark Millar's not-so-secret directorial debut, an "All-New, All-Different" X-Men (really? Again?), DC Comics and Geoff Johns set to release a Larfleeze Christmas story (which, in every conceivable way, will blow everyone's mind while stealing their Christmas presents), Black Panther is the new Man Without Fear (awesome job, Marvel; we barely had time to react to your previous decisions and now you drop this bomb? Bravo.), and DC's decision to stop shrink wrapping their cheaper hardcover collections (which is pretty lame)! Also includes (at no extra cost) the TWEETS OF THE WEEK, featuring Astound's favorite celebrity Tweeter! HE'S INSANE! Comics discussed from the week include the well-received Brightest Day #10, the Ed Benes-less Birds of Prey #5, Batman Beyond #4, Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #2, Zatanna #5, Amazing Spider-Man #643, X-Factor #209, and Our Fighting Forces #1! After a trip down memory lane in which Scott reminds us of his past as a television news anchor and confuses "90210" for "21 Jump Street," the crew jump straight into the news! THIS WEEK: Joe Quesada celebrates 10 years as Marvel's editor-in-chief, original Fredric Wertham manuscripts being made available to the public, a new shipping date for comics(!), a lawyer jumps in to stop Bluewater's Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga biographical comics, Warner Brothers and their latest attempt to stop anyone from using a bat in their logo, Adam Hughes and his recent marriage, "Walking Dead" the television series gets a second season (while season one has YET TO PREMIERE!), Mark Millar launches "CLiNT" magazine in Europe (we have to wait...), Archie Comics get a homosexual character, actor JJ Field cast as Union Jack in the Captain America movie, Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" being developed for television, Joe Hill's IDW series coming to television, DC Comics has decided that Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson will BOTH be Batman in November (HOLY DOUBLE VISION, BATMAN! Look for Marvel to do something similar for Wolverine!), Marvel's announcement of the return of Daredevil (well done, Marvel), a Walt Simonson "Thor" Omnibus (it's HUGE!), and the Tweets of the Week! Oh, and the Harvey Award winners, 'cause Ed had some kind of point to make, which clearly has already been forgotten! Good job going back to "the tapes," Ed! Podcast 33 - August 27th, 2010 | The Astound Conglomeration gathers ONCE MORE to discuss their latest Goldilocks-like dilemma: Who has been using the recording equipment? In typical fashion, the Lads forget this problem as they move on to a more important subject: COMICS! In the news this week: Marvel Studios responds to accusations of "Racebending" (Nico from "Runaways" was not described as Asian-America in casting calls; Marvel quickly goes into defense mode, with some glaring inaccuracies); National Read Comics in Public Day (Saturday, August 28th; you may have missed it, but we have photos of Ed reading his choice in public); "Hot" Rod Blagojevich making appearances at Wizard World Chicago (and profiting from it); "Walking Dead" the TV show gets a spooky premiere date and new (less shaky) preview; Ed Asner is reprising his role of Granny Goodness (what?) in an upcoming animated feature; Blockbuster preparing to file Chapter 11 (while Matt drops an Apple Store BOMB on Scott!); a Comixology created Image Comics app (Youngblood?!?); a new cartoon featuring content from Mad Magazine; "Iron Fist" the movie is back in development; Ford Motors contributes to the Hero Initiative; Avi Arad gets a new job; and the weekly comic movie news! ALSO FEATURING THE TWEET(S) OF THE WEEK! Our subject is clearly deranged! Comics discussed include the Grant Morrison scribed Batman #702 (Matt needed the clarification because he CLEARLY forgot everything that happened in "Final Crisis"), Wonder Woman #602 (blood, battles and jacket removals!), Time Masters - Vanishing Point #2, Green Arrow #3, Generation Lost #8, Superman - Secret Origin #6, Avengers #4, Fantastic Four #582, Captain America #609, Phantom Jack - The Nowhere Man Agenda, and IDW's Archie reprints! Podcast 32 - August 19th, 2010 | THE SLAVE-DRIVING CONTINUES! Scott commissions Matt (Engineer Extraordinaire) to compose a new theme song, with promises of creating an album cover (which will never happen!), while Ed DEMANDS TO BE HEARD! After a quick discussion of ancestry and misconceptions thereof (apparently Ed is from nowhere), the Astound Collective jump into the ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT news! (Well, slight changes were made.) Stories include the upcoming Wonder Woman Day 2010 (Scott has his costume ready), the Angel character returning to Dark Horse (Ed has HIS costume ready), the entire series of Batman Beyond coming to DVD (the bulk of the series, dude), Mad Men's January Jones to play Emma Frost in the upcoming movie, X-Men: First Class (sorry, Alice Eve; Matt still loves you), Marvel Comics' dastardly November 2010 solicitations (like the X-Men? There's, like, 17 titles for YOU! Does Marvel surprise anyone anymore?), Daredevil "ENDING" in November, Ultimate Spider-Man returns to ORIGINAL NUMBERING (real original, Marvel; GUESS what Scott does here: I'll give you a hint, it begins with "r" and rhymes with "pants!"), the Top 75 DC Moments According To People on the Internet (we only talk about the top five because of time restraints; including Matt and Ed's picks!), Marvel's Uncanny X-Force Day (YAY...what?), the apparent disappoint that is "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World," and the TWITTER QUOTE OF THE WEEK! Warren Ellis is insane! Somehow, amongst the chaos, the Lads find time to talk about actual COMICS! Titles discussed include Brightest Day #8, Green Lantern Corps #51, New Avengers #3, Secret Avengers #4, Uncanny X-Men #527, Amazing Spider-Man #640 (which will be discussed in full in the next podcast), and Batman Beyond #3! ALL OF THE ABOVE PLUS: F.O.C.! Previews Picks (and Marvel Not-Picks)! Unbridled Sarcasm! Frustration! DON'T MISS THIS EPISODE (Matt's life MAY depend on it!)!! | 8/22/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast 31 - August 12th, 2010 | The Astound Accumulation faces a DIRE DILEMMA! Do we open the Green Lantern Blackest Night Power Ring Spectrum Set and unleash the LED goodness? Or do we save them, knowing that one day they INCREASE IN VALUE? We have it on good authority from a local comic shop owner in beautiful Westlake, Ohio, that this WILL INDEED happen! Is the real value in having SWEET LED LIGHTS ON YOUR FINGERS? Time will tell, as Matt fails in his quest to get an answer from Geoff Johns himself (via Twitter). It made Matt cry a little. MEANWHILE! Scott, Matt, and "iPad Lad" Ed bring you COMIC NEWS! Stories discussed include the upcoming Spider-Man musical ($50 million! Bono and the Edge! It MIGHT be good! Podcast 30 - August 5th, 2010 | WITNESS THE BIRTH OF ED'S 267th NICKNAME! Witty new names aside, the Astound Brigade brings you THE WEEK IN COMICS! The weekly news includes: A struggling family finding comic book treasure in the bowels of their basement (hint: it features the first appearance of an alien hero), the stunning theory that "Inception" was ripped off from an Uncle Scrooge comic (which Scott...AGREES WITH?!?), the next stage of the strange case of Gaiman v. McFarlane (which features lawyers and awesome dialogue in which the judge describes some comic characters' skimpy outfits; "warrior angels with voluptuous physiques," read to awesome beats by Matt and Ed), the publication of Jim Henson's first screenplay, "Sand" (in graphic novel form, so no news on if it will feature Muppets), Paul Dini joining the creative team of the animated "Ultimate Spider-Man" (is he in cahoots with Double Agent Jeph Loeb?!?), the weekly Jonah Hex movie watch, an Adult Swim animated short for "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" (SEE IT; Matt and Ed thoroughly enjoyed it; Scott had to work at the comic store), and the mysterious appearance of an "Avengers" movie trailer on the internet (listen for terrible impressions done by the Brigade)! AWESOME! WITNESS a rare retraction by Scott, who once believed that Stephane Roux (artist on Zatanna) was a woman! EMBARASSING! GUESS WHAT? THEY TALK ABOUT COMICS TOO! Podcast 29 - July 29th, 2010 | After a NEARLY DISASTROUS beginning (Matt forgot how to count), the Astound Assemblage BRAVELY LAUNCH into PODCAST 29 (on July 29th...eerie). After a so-so week prior, the Lads jump into the San Diego Comic-Con news...WITH GUSTO! Topics discussed include the sell-out of the sixth volume of Scott Pilgrim (not sell-out in the negative term, but the good-for-Brian Lee O'Malley sense; Matt and Ed also saw the new Scott Pilgrim, but, not wanting to give away spoilers, simply give it two thumbs up each, for a grand total of...four...), Will Eisner's "A Contract with God" being adapted into a move with four separate directors, Grant Morrison's announcement that he's working on a screenplay (drunken cowboys and a hobo army!), Morrison leaving Batman and Robin to write... another Batman book(!), the lineup of the Avengers movie ASSEMBLED (with director JOSS WHEDON; fanboys and girls are going crazy worldwide), Green Lantern movie posters (they are EXCELLENT), the announcement of IDW's Alex Raymond "Definitive Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim," IDW's new 4 issue Rocketeer series, the return of John Byrne's Next Men (they were gone?), the (surprise) continuation of the Jonah Hex movie watch, changes for The Amazing Spider-Man (Dan Slott is solo writer, bi-weekly), new mini-series for Robert E. Howard properties, a new X-Men ongoing book called "Generation Hope" written by Kieron Gillen, an animated adaptation of All-Star Superman, the trailer for the animated Avengers series (thanks, Double Agent Jeph Loeb), a Young Justice cartoon (featuring episodes written by Peter David), Blue Beetle and Booster Gold coming to Smallville, video game trailers (especially DCU Online), the AWESOME Walking Dead television trailer, the leaked Thor trailer, Adam McKay signing onto to direct The Boys (PLEASE get Simon Pegg to play Wee Hughie), and the cancellation of Image's Shuddertown! The Astound Corps find themselves in the comic void that is the week before comic-con and fill it with: ED ON HIS iPAD, playing "When the Saints Go Marching In!" ASTONISHING! BRILLIANT! The boys do manage to discuss a modicum of comic news including Alan Moore's refusal of the rights to Watchmen (pending prequels and sequels written by him; awesomely accompanied by terrible British accents and the first use of the phrase "gay brogue" in podcasting!), Amazon's amazing trends in e-book sales (they're accelerating), more info on pirate manga websites (sadly not the kind with parrots, eyepatches, and plank-walking; it involves "scanlations"), and the continuation of the weekly "Jonah Hex Movie Watch!" It MADE MORE MONEY LAST WEEK! YEE-HAW! This week features an all-new, all-different method of comic reviewing! LAST WEEKS comics discussed MORE IN-DEPTH in an effort to, well, TALK MORE ABOUT COMICS! In the news this week: Cleveland legend Harvey Pekar passes away, Edward Norton out as the Hulk in the "Avengers" movie, the week's Jonah Hex movie watch, trends in ebook sales, and the new creative teams that will soon debut on the Batman titles (no Grant Morrison, but lots of Tony Daniel, David Finch, Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason)! Podcast 26 - July 8th, 2010 | THE DECISION IS UPON US! While comics are the main focus of this podcast, the latest news concerning Cleveland sports TRANSCENDS ALL! Yes, the LeBron James saga rocks this Cleveland area podcast, and one Astounder CAN'T HANDLE THE PRESSURE! (Actually, it was the result of weeks of equipment failure and technical issues). Whatever the case, Scott and Ed were forced to move on without the help of engineer extraordinaire Matt, who pushed the record button and simply walked away! Scott and Ed admirably handle the Matt tasks, however, and simply decided they might not really need him anyway. Together the Dysfunctional Duo discuss the top news of the week, including Devil's Due Publishing leaving Diamond Distributors (DDP owed A LOT of money), the arrest of a suspect in the murder of Steve Perry (NOT that Steve Perry, rather the man who wrote Thundercats), Windows 7 apps (for non-Apple products, which means the market will soon be flooded with tablet devices), Jeff Lemire signing an exclusive contract with DC Comics (which leads to a discussion on the native awesomeness of said imprint), and Aaron "Kick-Ass" Johnson's baby announcement (his girlfriend is forty-three). LISTEN as the Podcasters discover the result of that stupid "DECISION" special ON-AIR! Scott comes off sounding like a jilted lover! Ed...doesn't really care. HEAR the Astound Plan for the End-of-the-World Survival (it involves a tutu, zombies, guns, and a banjo) as the lamentations of Cleveland fill the air (via Twitter)! Comics discussed this week include the latest issues of Batman and Robin (Morrisson-esque), the Fastastic Four annual (Hitch makes it fantastic), Steve Rogers: Super-Soldier, Bendis and Maleev's Scarlet, and X-Men: Curse of the Mutants (Spoiler Alert: Ed found it interesting, because of the vampires)! Podcast 25 - July 1st, 2010 | FIREWORKS! Independence Day is near and the Astounding Fathers (well, Scott is a father, Matt has a dog, and Ed has... an iPad) celebrate their freedom with YOU!! Scott discusses his new "magnanimousity" (Editor's Note: SHOULD be magnanimity; we love to make up new words!) and his feeling of patriotism! In the news this week: Jeph Loeb's new position at Marvel Comics (which fits his undercover status as an agent of DC) and his departure on the Hulk title, Archie Comics being sold at Toys 'R Us, DC Comics shutting down its Zuda Comics website, Tommy Lee Jones and Dominic Cooper joining the Captain America cast, more lawyers suing lawyers (but not the Winnie the Pooh lawyer), and the continuing failure of the Jonah Hex movie! Comics discussed include (but not limited to): Secret Avengers (Ed: "Another excellent issue!"), Green Lantern (Ed: "Great issue!:"), Batman Beyond, the Invincible Iron Man Annual, and Wonder Woman (featuring the debut of her new costume, on which Scott and Ed expound upon TO GREAT EXTENT; thanks, Jim Lee)! Rant of the Week (brought to you by Astound Comics in beautiful Westlake, Ohio): X-Men becoming Twilight characters! ALL OF THIS and another dynamic edition of the F.O.C. Podcast 24 - June 24th, 2010 | Apple products are go! Ed and Matt discuss their latest purchases (iPad and iPhone 4, respectively) while Scott laments his new status as the technological gamma male. The Astound Nation discuss the brand new, just released DC digital comic app (which Matt and Ed can enjoy on their new toys; Scott can too, but he still feels left out...), and spend much time discussing the ramifications of this release (and the fact that Justice League: Generation Lost will be released biweekly along with the print version). CHANGES ARE COMING! Luckily, Scott, soothsayer extraordinaire, shares his predictions and prognostications which will, more than likely, COME TRUE! DOOM AND SHRINKAGE (seriously, you've gotta listen to this conversation!)! Are digital comics exciting? Scary? Do you care? WE DO! The Boys do manage to find the time to discuss OTHER, less WORLD-SHATTERING news, such as Hastings Entertainment's move to become Diamond's largest distributor (great timing!), the OUTRAGE that Superman CANNOT visit Cleveland during the "Grounded" storyline (Omaha?), and Marc Waid joining the Hero's Initiative. Comics discussed this week include Power Girl (new creative team), The Return of Bruce Wayne (pirates!), Generation Lost (Russians!), Avengers, Fantastic Four (Hickman), X-Men Legacy, Legion, the first issue of Green Arrow, and the 700th issue of Superman! (Editor's Note: Sometimes, Matt's mic crackles. Its either his electric personality or a technical issue he can't figure out yet. Ed just moves his mic stand more than Axl Rose in concert. Podcast 22 - June 15th, 2010 | COMICS ARE GO!
