Andrea L, Pituitary Success Story - Oct 19,2011 | Andrea has had successful pituitary surgery after years of Cushings symptoms. Her entire pituitary gland was removed. Part of her bio reads: "I first noticed something abnormal about my health in the summer of 2009, at age 23. I suddenly developed severe acne when I had had clear skin since I was a teenager, and I noticed more hair on my face and body than I was used to. In retrospect I realize that I’d also had bouts of weight gain, a buffalo hump and excessive sweating during my adolescent years, but I didn’t think anything of it at the time... ...My new endocrinologist in New York ordered more tests (you all know the drill). Over the next six months or so the 24 hour UFCs kept coming back high, salivary cortisols were normal or high, and one dexamethasone suppression test was kind of ambiguous. The doctor said that my urine volume was really high and might be screwing up the results, so I retested after limiting my fluid intake. That UFC came back normal, so I was instructed to follow up in six months... ...August 23rd, 2011 was the day of my rebirth. I can attribute my euphoria in the week after the surgery to the strong pain meds I was on for the CSF drain, but by the time they were out of my system I was astounded to find that my mood and thinking were absolutely 100% normal. I can once again think, laugh, smile, sleep, taste, and enjoy the company of others. Within three weeks I had enough mental energy to resume working from home. | 10/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Robyn Y (2ndtimecushie), Recurrent Pituitary Patient - Jun 15,2011 | Robyn was diagnosed with Cushings Disease in 2004 and had 2/3 of her pituitary removed. This was after 8 years of going from doctor to doctor and thinking she was going to go crazy. She writes: "Anyway, after my surgery in February of 2004 I had probably a good three years and then I slowly started feeling bad again. I am now going through what I did 8yrs ago. My endocrinologist doesnt think that the Cushings is back because of my tests being borderline. He told me that he thinks I am obese and I need to have stomach surgery. I seriously cried for days and told him that I disagreed and I wasnt going to give up...I need support in following through with the tests that I need to. Like I said I have been putting them off because subconsiously I am so worried that they will tell me that I dont have the Cushings back and I will have to live like this the rest of my life. Tired of being so heavy and uncomfortably large, sweating to the point of dripping, aching all over and not having any desire or motivation to do anything. Im praying the tests come back showing that the tumor is back and they will go in and take the rest of the pituitary out." Read Robyns bio | 6/15/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Interview with Carolyn (CarolynB) Pituitary Patient - Oct 06,2010 | Carolyn writes in her bio: I am 48 years old from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I was conclusively diagnosed with Cushing's, February 9, 2010. I had the transsphenoidal surgery, April 13, 2010. My Endocrinologist thinks I had the disease only a year or two but I think my Cushing's goes back many, many years. Since my mid twenties I started developing the symptoms: hips, thighs and arms thinning while gaining more and more belly fat. A red moon face and rosacea. Hair loss on my head while at the same time growing a mustache. I had anxiety, depression, even post dramatic stress. I developed insulin resistance with high blood pressure and triglycerides. MId twenties was the last time I saw a good night sleep... This website has been a "God Send" for me. I think I know more about Cushing's then many doctors now because of it. And I find much strength and encouragement when reading about others experiences." Interview with Danielle (Smilez133), pituitary patient - Mar 05,2010 | Danielle writes in her bio: I started having noticeable Cushing's symptoms when I was 17 (2003) I started gaining weight and getting stretch marks. In the fall of 2004 when I moved away to college, I spent the first 3 weeks sick with Pneumonia. More weight gain, irregular periods, stretch marks, insomnia, kidney stones, shingles, fatigue, mood swings and muscle weakness followed for the next few years. In 2005, I came across an article about Cushing's and KNEW that was what I had. I had previously been diagnosed with PCOS and knew that didn't explain half of my symptoms. ... I had an IPSS to confirm the pituitary adenoma as the source, and had my first pituitary surgery on December 16th, 2009. After a week of losing weight and feeling better, I suddenly had high blood pressure, swelling in my legs, more irritability, and weight gain. I was taken off the replacement steroid medication I was on, and started testing again. It took about a month to get another high test, and I am scheduled to have half of my pituitary gland removed on February 11th. I am looking forward to a cure this time! It has been a long journey but hopefully this will be my turning point. | 3/4/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Interview with Monic', pituitary patient - Feb 05,2010 | Monic's Bio: Hello My name is Monic’. I first started my Cushing’s journey when I left for college in 2006 I was 19. One month after I left home my symptoms started to appear. The first signs right from the beginning was weight gain and having no period. After a very long year of trying to figure out what was wrong with me I was sent to OHSU to see Dr.Cook. After many Dr. Appointments and being told I was crazy, Dr. Cook started testing me for Cushing’s. To his great surprise (no surprise to me) I passed all of the various testing to prove that I did have Cushing’s. 3 months later I had pituitary surgery. I was sent home but it was unclear if my surgery had worked. A month later I had my period and things were starting to look good. I returned to school that spring. By the end of spring quarter all of my symptoms had returned. I then went back to Dr.Cook only to be disappointed by his reply and his lack of confidence that I really did have Cushing’s. (Even after I had passed all of the tests.) After a couple of long months, I decided to go see Dr.Ludlam at Swedish Hospital in Seattle WA. The rest is history. After another long couple months of testing Dr.L was confident I still had Cushing’s. He gave me the choice to choose between a BLA and a second pituitary. On March 10th 09’ I had my BLA and life has been much better since. I can’t thank Dr.L and Kelley enough. Their team stuck with me against the odds. Dr.L also let me be the deciding factor on what I would like to do for treatment which was a huge blessing to me. I truly believe that there are many people suffering from Cushing’s disease that do not know they have it. I want to tell them that there is hope and to never give up. I would never be cured today if I had given up or listened to the first Dr. that told me “No you do NOT have Cushings.” | 2/4/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Interview with Brandon, undiagnosed Cushing's patient - Jan 22,2010 | Brandon started showing signs of Cushing's somewhere between age 9 and 11. To look at pictures of him in 2nd grade and 4th grade you would think they were two different kids. He started gaining weight like crazy, and no matter how much he dieted and exercised he couldn't lose it. He even tried a years worth of actual Navy entrance training and Atkins, and nearly ended up in the hospital from not eating carbs! He has always had mood swings and depression, at least for as long as he can remember, and always tired. Now he has back problems and leg cramps that keep him up at night, even when he takes sleep aids. Brandon is testing for Cushing's now. | 1/21/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Interview with Laura - Oct 30,2009 | This interview will take place at 9:00 PM eastern - please note later time! Laura has been struggling since 2007 with various odd things happening to her body. In March of 2009 she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and Hypothyroid. Her bio contains a long list of symptoms she has and she has been misdiagnosed with Obesity, Diabetes, Kidney stones, Depression, MS, Manic/Depressive, TIA, Anxiety - stress, Not exercising enough, Not eating properly, Abusive relationship (due to bruising). In responding to the email confirming this interview Laura wrote: "When I started reading the bio's of people like myself, I started to cry tears of relief that what I may have, is actually ONE real thing. I cannot tell you how happy I was to find your website and I think it is wonderful that so many people who truly understand how frustrating it is to think we are alone, are willing to put themselves out there as beacons of hope for the rest of us. I felt so strongly, that I wanted to add my bio and offer myself for interview. If I can help one person feel a little calmer while they go through this process, I am more than willing. I don't know if I have Cushing's but if I do, it is important to me to reach out to others because the attacks coming from the physical and mental side of this illness, deserve to be exposed and recognized. Even though I am feeling a bit humiliated, reclusive and embarassed because of what it is doing to me." Interview with SusanM - Oct 09,2008 | Join us as Mary O'Connor (MaryO) and Robin Smith (staticnrg) interview long time Cushing's patient Susan (SusanM). Susan writes: Susan writes: As you may have read in my other post, I retired from a 28-year career at a major health insurance company (one of the big five) on March 31. 2008. I am happy with this achievement, however, much more proud of the actions I took to reach that achievement. Why so? For 27 of those 28 years, I had faced Cushings and we all know what difficulty that may bring. In 2003, I had the pit surgery and became quite ill in 2004. It wasn't until November, of 2005 that I had the BLA which brought about some relief. During all of this, I worked full time consistently until 2004 when I had to take some time off of work. I was GH deficient and had the episode of congestive heart failure. Once back at work, I applied for a work accommodation to work at home on Monday and Friday under the Americans with Disabilities Act. It was granted and I was provided with a full computer set up at home as well as the one at work. This made a great difference in my being able to work or not. Not driving the 26 miles each way to work as well as being at home continued my work. Another thing I did was to work with my PCP to be accepted into the Physical Rehab at the local hospital. It provided medically-monitored exercise (up to 5 days a week) and my muscles recovered well during this time. I had difficulty with shortness of breath due to the weak muscles around my lungs and this was a positive step to correct that situation. What else did I do to keep myself working during this timeframe? I worked incredibly hard on achieving a positive mental attitude! I meditated, performed self-hypnosis, and found a support system that worked for me. This foundation made the better days better and difficult days a bit less difficult. Can someone with Cushings continue working? In my opinion, YES. What it takes, however, is the drive to keep going and a bun | 10/9/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Interview with Joselle - Sep 11,2008 | Joselle writes in her bio: "I am a 48 year old female recently diagnosed with Cushing's Disease caused by a pituitary adenoma. It's taken a few years to finally come to this diagnosis. I had a series of symptoms which were indicative of a variety of disorders. However, I don't present as the "typical" Cushing's patient as I don't have the "moon face" or "buffalo hump".
