ExplicitEPISODE 33 – The Propagandhi Pledge | Tracks: Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Foxtrot, Sharks, Sommerset We said earlier in the year we wanted to get back to just cranking out some tunes on our episodes, so hear is another show with a definite 'Less Talk, More Rock' vibe. Episode 33 features a bunch of awesome songs from some great bands. I'd honestly forgotten how much fun these shows are to do. It also features another awesome installment of 'Shuffletown' - our segment dedicated to plucking random songs from albums long since stored under fishing rods in the back shed. Give it a spin as an awesome playlist for the weekend...or any other rock-out time for that matter! To get the episode on your 'Pod just click on the iTunes button to the right or just play/download below. ExplicitEPISODE 32 – The Show Rolls On | Interview: Frank Turner Tracks: Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun, Black Flag, The Band. About six years ago, Frank Turner would text his mates to make sure they were coming to see him play down at the pub that weekend. About two weeks ago he played London's Wembley Arena. He did it despite having never graced the cover of mainstream music mags, or having a fluke hit song that got used in some crappy TV series soundtrack. All the while he has remained on the same independent record label he started out on. Instead he just wrote great f*****g songs, played anywhere he could, started one tour straight after the last, and did everything he could to connect, both on and off-stage, with the people who took the time to listen. It's a pleasure to bring you Episode 32 of D.I.Wireless featuring our interview with Frank where we talk all about that night at Wembley, the tattoos, films and the party that took place, and why, after all this, he is so f*****g excited about playing the Darwin Railway Sports and Social Club on his upcoming tour of Australia. A huge thanks to Frank for taking the time out to chat. If you are reading this - from anywhere - do yourself a favor and catch his tour. He'll be in a town near you soon enough. ExplicitEPISODE 31 – The Clerks | Interviews: Record Store Day Tracks: The Saints, NOFX, Toe to Toe Here is our Record Store Day (APRIL 21) special episode featuring chats with independent store owners and operators from around Australia and here in Canada. The episode includes short interviews with Matt Horvath from Stolen Youth/Clarity Records, Ray Ahn from The Hard Ons/Utopia Records, Andy Hayden from A Death in the Family/Poison City Records, Paul Voge from We Set Sail/Kill The Music, Graham Nixon from Resist Records and Ben Frith from Bleeding Horse Express/Neptoon Records. We hear from the guys about what's going down in their stores for RSD, why they think independent shops have an important role to play, and they also choose tracks from albums they can distinctly remember visiting a record store to pick up. There are some pretty classic song selections here. And don't forget our SNEAK PEAK at previously unheard tracks from RSD release from I Exist and 'Shuffle and Scrape': A Tribute to Blueline Medic. This episode was a little different and a blast to put together and I really hope you can take the time to give it a listen. Overall, you should never need and excuse to go to an independent record - but if you did - this is the day. A HUGE thanks to all of the people who took part in this episode and a shout out to the many other great independent record stores around the country fighting the good fight such as Beatdisc, 78 Records, Blackwire, Landspeed plus many more. ExplicitEPISODE 30 – The Celtic Calling | Interview: The Ramshackle Army Tracks: The Currency, Sir Reg, Lexington Fields Break out the beers, banjos and bowler caps, it's a celtic rock epiosde of D.I.Wireless - and it's a cracker. Episode 30 of D.I.Wireless has us speaking to The Ramshackle Army frontman Gaz who was still frantically preparing for the tour of a lifetime in support of The Dropkick Murphys and Frank Turner for a string of shows in the US around St. Patricks Day. Still considered a relative newcomer (even by their own admissions) in their hometown of Melbourne, they have done well in a short time and quickly caught the attention of a number of people and been embraced by their peers in the celtic punk community in Australia and even overseas. Tune in to hear Gaz speak about exactly how the stars aligned for them to be invited on this huge tour, as well as give some really interesting insights into the celtic music communities, how to avoid sounding like a wanker singing a more tradtional Australian style of music, and jamming in plans around their recent release Life Lessons and Drunken Sessions. Thanks to Gaz for taking the time to chat and of course we wish them the best as they head to the US later this month. ExplicitEPISODE 29 – The Shuffletown Debut | Interview: Nope Tracks: Mid Youth Crisis, Jack Flash, The Dopamines It's been over a year since we've had the chance to play a solid block of tunes on the show that haven't been selected by our guests. Too long really and it would be cool to get back to this format more often. So Episode 29 contains a bunch of tunes I have been listening too lately, most off them from our awesome experiences at Fest 10. There is lots more that we will wait to play until the FEST OR BUST videos are done. Episode 29 also sees the debut of our new and completely unoriginal segment where we dip into those boxes of CDs under your bed and pluck some older tracks to play. The segment has been dubbed 'SHUFFLETOWN' - dedicated to those times your too lazy to pick and album and good ol' shuffle unearths some beauties. Hope you enjoy this episodes picks...it was fun plucking them to play. Back with an interview next episode, enjoy this mix in the meantime. Peace. ExplicitEPISODE 28 – The Year’s Favourite Sons | Interview: The Smith Street Band Tracks: Milhouse, F****d Up, RVIVR Back in the episode interview chair...and it feels so good. Actually, I sat on the floor to record this one... Episode 28 of course features an interview with Wil Wagner, frontman of The Smith Street Band from Melbourne, Victoria. In June they released an album many in Australia (and I mean MANY) claimed was one of their favourites of the year - and rightly so. I had been fascinated with this band and it's enigmatic but jolly frontman since seeing them live for the first time last year. Have a listen to hear what Wil has to say about the big year the band has had and why they don't plan on slowing down, how he has put together such an impressive catalogue at just 21 years of age, those constant drug references, and hear him talk about and play some of his own favourite music of 2011. Speaking to Wil about music has reaffirmed my opinion that the The Smith Street band is probably headed for much bigger things...whatever that means. A big thanks to Wil for the interview and of course the rest of the band for such a great album. To get the episode on you 'Pod use the iTunes button on the right - or just play/download below. ExplicitEPISODE 27 – The Chippy’s Rock | Interview: Carpenter Tracks: Carpenter, Danzig, Dag Nasty Our first interview with a band on Canadian soil sees us speak to Dan Sioui, frontman of Vancouver's Carpenter. Carpenter are one of the very lucky bands to be invited to play Fest 10, so it is fitting we chat to them having announced our big FEST OR BUST TOUR. We discuss his experiences as a veteran of 3 Fests - including playing last years festival in a deli. That's right...a deli! We also cover heaps more ground in the interview including the battle to stay relevant playing their blend or punk rock, his continued dedication to agriculture issues in Canada, as well as the bands current tour of Europe and plans to hit Australia very soon. A massive thanks to Dan and Carpenter. I strongly recommend the bands current release 'Sea to Sky' for your earholes. Two songs feature in this episode and one is playing on our jukebox. ExplicitEPISODE 26 – The VanCity Story | Interview: Susanne Tabata Tracks: DOA, Subhumans, Young Canadians Here is EPISODE 26 of D.I.Wireless featuring an in-depth chat with Susanne Tabata, producer and director of 'Bloodied But Unbowed', a film documenting the birth of the Vancouver punk scene. It really was great to get to sit down with Susanne - who has film-making credits such as Skate Girl and 49 Degrees - and to speak about this documentary. It was amazing to see her portrayl of how things unfolded in Vancouver during the late 70's to early 80's to the point where the city was churning out classic music with some serious f*****g attitude, and when bands headed to the US, they captivated and even scared their trailblazing peers in bands like Black Flag, The Circle Jerks and The Dead Kennedys. Just as interesting was how it all imploded in the space of a few years. Humour, politics, terrorism, drugs...this film has it all. It has screened at various film festivals around Canada and has aired on cable TV and educational networks. With any luck it will continue to grow worldwide. Put some pressure on your local networks or film festivals so you can enjoy it too! A huge thanks to Susanne for the interview. ExplicitEPISODE 25 – The South America Sojourn (Part 2) | Interviews: Carbona, Trascender Tracks: Same Hola chicos y chicas! Here is the hot and highly anticipated part 2 of our special South American episodes featuring interviews with long-running Rio-Ramones-Lovers Carbona and the intense and thoughtful Trascender from Lima. It was amazing to hear the Carbona story - paying dues and being caught in the crazy wave of the pop-punk explosion of the mid/late nineties which saw them achieve the rare feat of getting out of SA and touring the US and Europe. I was also extremely stoked to get to talk to Trascender - representing a very passionate and completely full-on underground hardcore scene in Peru. These guys can't take anything for granted with their band...and it shows in their music. I really hope you take the time to check out these interviews and ALL our South American episodes. ExplicitEPISODE 25 – The South American Sojourn (Part 1) | Interviews: Garage Fuzz, Bullet Bane Tracks: Same What a way to celebrate Episode 25. Here is part 1 of our special South American episodes featuring 2 interviews recorded in Sao Paulo, Brazil with veterans Garage Fuzz and up-and-comers Bullet Bane. An awesome insight into the Brasilian punk scene from two very different perspectives. Garage Fuzz have basically seen and done it all over the last 20 years. They have toured with punk rock heavyweights from around the world and released much-loved demos, albums and EPs - all the time staying true to the friendship that brought them together in the first place and a love of music...nothing more, nothing less. Bullet Bane have gained immediate attention in Sao Paulo and even overseas with some tight tunes and a good attitude towards their music and those around them. So much so their 4th show ever was with Swedish legends No Fun at All and they intend to go from strength to strength. Had a blast doing these interviews so hope you enjoy them. Great tracks by both these bands also featured. Remember to watch the preview video HERE. ExplicitEPISODE 24 – The Meaning | Interview: Greg Arrest Records Tracks: Army of Champions, Vanity, Word for Word From the other side of the world here is Episode 24 of D.I.Wireless featuring our interview with Greg Bower of Arrest Records. Pushing 40 and having never featured in any Brisbane punk or hardcore band, you would be forgiven for letting Greg slip away to the suburban dream after experiencing an extremely rough upbringing and having a family in tow. But instead he started a label just two years ago that is steadily growing, and you can find him just about every night of the weekend helping out at various all ages and club shows around South East Queensland...even putting on his own. Greg's perspective of what is going on around him is positive and uplifting. He is in it for the right reasons and while you may have heard some of the things he speaks of before, it doesn't mean you should pay atttention to the messages he has. Just out of school and with only a handful of shows under their belts these guys already seem to have their heads screwed on right and have some intense songs to go along with it. Tune in to hear them talk about everything about starting out as a hardcore band in Brisbane. Is cyber bullying real dudes? Both of these guys seemed very thoughtful and intelligent with a great attitude towards DIY music, while still having enough of a 'f**k you' attitude to keep things interesting. ExplicitEpisode 21 – The Man Upstairs | Interview: Paul Kill the Music Tracks: Fugazi, Lifetime, The Jealous Sound So if you have made it to looking at this site their is a good chance you have thought to yourself how cool it would be to work in a record store. But what's it really like? Episode 21 features our interview with Paul Voge of Kill the Music Record Store in Brisbane. Personally I can't imagine this music and this way of life without the presence of independent record stores. But Paul never seems to ask any favours, just goes about trying to keep the store going and keeping things real. With the industry landscape changing so drastically - even in the four plus years Kill the Music has had his doors open - maybe you should have a listen to what it's like behind the counter... Awwwwww. But the plus side is I had some beers on a Sunday afternoon, chose some all time favs and some recent songs on rotation to play for y'all, with some short and sweet crap in between. Feel free to tally how many times I say 'rad' and 'gnarly'. As I mention in the episode hoping to finish the year with a bang so check back soon. ExplicitEpisode 15 – The Murderburger Mission | Interview: Horace Pinker Tracks: Dag Nasty, Alligator Gun, Horace Pinker Here in the first of another two part 'On the Road' series featuring an interview with long running Chicago band Horace Pinker, recorded from a garage on the Gold Coast and backstage at the Globe in Brisbane. If only we could share all the stories this band gave us - from Propaghandi shitting on plates to dinners with Dave Grohl. But what was even more interesting to hear about was the fact this band started touring in 1992, then took part in everything as things exploded for pop punk bands during the mid 1990's. It was great to get to know these guys on the road and have them share some of their tales. Thanks to Horace Pinker for the tour and the interview. ExplicitEpisode 14 – The Poisoned Half | Interview: A Death in The Family Tracks: Lungs, Leatherface, Husker Du Well after looking forward to this interview for some time now and having a great chat with Andy from A Death in The Family and Poison City Records, technology taught me a lesson and unfortunately we only have half an interview. But what's left is virtually unedited and is a really interesting conversation with a guy who has not only worked with his band to get them beyond Melbourne's thriving scene, but also managed to get his small indie label out of the bedroom and into stores worldwide. As I said in the intro of this episode I really was impressed with how Andy gave his perspective on exactly why he had taken the steps he had with the label, as well as hearing some of the gnarly stories he has gathered from time on the road with ADITF as they really have gone from strength to strength over the last 5 years. Bummer some of them were lost. Yet again, another awesome individual and a big thanks to Andy for the chat. Check out A Death in the Family and all things to do with his label, including the Poison City Weekender coming in September. ExplicitEpisode 13 – The Aussie Beatles | Interview: The Loved Ones Tracks: Hawaiian Islands, Miles Away, Ride the Tiger. Episode 13 is here featuring a bit of an in-depth chat with Dave Hause, frontman of Philedelphia quartet The Loved Ones. Having paid dues with almost everyone from Sick of it All and The Explosion to The Bouncing Souls and Kid Dynamite, Dave's experiences building this band and forging a path as a 'rock' band on an established punk label like Fat Wreck Chords is pretty unique. This guy has seen and done plenty, so check out the episode to hear about, amongst many other things, how to 'dis' Bad Religion onstage in LA, why he knocked back Green Day, and his plans for The Loved Ones now and in the future. A massive thanks to Dave for taking the time to chat. Great fella. ExplicitEpisode 11 – The Revival Tour Part 1 | Interview: Tim Barry Tracks: Tim Barry For Episode 11 I had the absolute pleasure of chatting to Tim Barry, who's music I have admired for a very long time now. A career in a punk band van, some recent personal tragedy, and a crazy touring schedule - including the 56 shows he's recently played - has done nothing to smother his zest for life, new experiences on the road and at shows, as well as his drive to create new music. Amazing music. In this short interview he reveals just some of the things that make him tick. As mentioned below Tim will be in Australia for the Revival Tour kicking off next week. Don't miss out or you will regret it. Check back here for Part 2 of the Revival Tour special featuring an interview with Frank Turner. Massive thanks to Tim and thanks to you for checking it out.
