Encounters: Dehlia Low – May 1st, 2010 | With its high concentration of jams, venues and talented musicians, it's no small wonder that Asheville continues to extraordinary musical acts that are widely successful on regional and national levels. One such band is Dehlia Low. Their sound is reminiscent of early roots country, with gentle tugs from their modern stamp upon original bluegrass numbers. We caught up with them at Merlefest 2010, where the band made its debut performance at the nation's gold standard in Americana music festivals. Check out the band online at dehlialow.com. | 6/15/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Encounters: The Bowerbirds – April 23rd, 2010 | The Bowerbirds were formed in Raleigh, NC in 2006. Their music straddles that white picket fence between folk music and indie rock, wrought with contemplative lyricism, tight vocal harmonies, driving accordion and a host of other characteristic sounds that allow The Bowerbirds to stick to their Americana roots while simultaneously branching out into more experimental forms. Despite taking a well-deserved break from extensive national touring in support of their sophomore studio effort, Upper Air, The Bowerbirds made an appearance at this year's Shakori Hill Festival of Music and Dance. We were very pleased to sit down with founding members, Phil Moore and Beth Tacular at the Fret Knot Radio Hour table on Friday afternoon. | 5/7/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Encounters: Bela Fleck – April 24th, 2010 | We had an incredible time at The Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance, in charming Chatham County, NC. Our chat with Bela Fleck on April 24th, 2010 was definitely a highlight of the weekend. I must be honest and say that I felt more than a little unprepared going into this conversation. Really, what do you even ask a guy who's widely reputed as the world's most innovative and technically proficient banjoist? A guy who, in his 30-year career, has been nominated in more categories than any other musician in Grammy history? Well, fortunately Bela is both a talented instrumentalist and a gifted conversationalist. Our chat flowed very nicely. All I had to do was listen. And now you can listen in on our conversation yourself, right here. Click the link below, or stream the mp3 above, to hear Bela's thoughts on his recent world travels, forthcoming collaborations and the opportunity to record for best-selling author Neil Gaiman. | 4/28/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
