CleanVideoIsland Dolphin Care, helping children with special needs | Key Largo Florida, home of Island Dolphin Care, Inc. (IDC) was developed to help children with special needs and their families who are dealing with developmental and/or physical disabilities, emotional challenges, and critical, chronic or terminal illness. Island Dolphin Care believes that children with special challenges can and should enjoy the full range of activities that life’s experiences can offer, and that every child deserves the opportunity to play, giggle and have fun! Island Dolphin Care, Inc., was created by Ms. Deena Hoagland, LCSW, after witnessing the remarkable recovery of her son, Joe, after he began swimming with dolphins at the age of three. Deena and her husband, Peter, brought Joe to Dolphins Plus, in Key Largo, FL in the hope that the dolphins might motivate Joe to use the left side of his body-weakened from a stroke which occurred during his third open-heart surgery. Joe had not responded well to traditional physical, occupational, and speech therapies. At Dolphins Plus, Joe began to make progress physically and psychologically in a natural, non-threatening, fun setting. He took pleasure and satisfaction in completing his exercises, assisted by the unconditional support from the dolphins. Joe responded extremely well to this “new” approach, increasing muscle tone and flexibility, as well as increasing his self-esteem. With the support of the dolphins, especially his dolphin friend “Fonzie,” Joe was able to normalize his young life. Deena hypothesized that if dolphins could help Joe feel better about himself, and motivate him to try new tasks, then the dolphins might also help others. A variety of children with special needs could experience therapeutic success in an environment less threatening than standard medical settings. Since 1990, Deena has worked with many children from around the world with various educational, emotional, and physical needs. The dolphins are catalysts that provide unconditional love and support. The program also provides unique educational experiences that often allows children to become more expressive and develop closer bonds with parents, doctors, and therapists upon returning home. Deena Hoagland graduated from the University of Denver with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the States of Colorado and Florida. Deena has worked in many clinical and educational settings, and is a psychotherapist and certified hypno-therapist. "Island Dolphin Care is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization, We invite you to meet our therapy staff, learn about dolphin assisted therapy, explore great resources for families, and meet our dolphins." ### | 2/11/11 | Free | View In iTunes

CleanVideoShark commerce left unregulated by United Nations | Did you know... the earliest known sharks date back more than 420 million years ago, before the time of the dinosaurs? [See the video below] United Nations wildlife trade body denied three proposals for cross-border commerce of sharks threatened with extinction. Conservationists argued fishing for sharks is unregulated, but Japan led the opposition, arguing management of shark populations should be left to regional fisheries groups, not CITES. Only one new marine species is protection by the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), the Porbeagle, a shark that resembles the Mako and is fished for its meat. Bids to impose a global trade ban on seven species of precious coral also fell short of the required two-thirds majority. The shark species left unregulated commerce are; Scalloped Hammerhead, Oceanic White Tip, and the Spiny Dogfish. The fish are often tossed back into the water after their precious fins have been sliced away. And we thought Michael Vick was a monster? Yes he is a monster. We cannot justify bad behavior by pointing to other bad behaviors; it's not a sliding-scale. Millions of Hammerhead and White Tip sharks are taken to satisfy a psychotic appetite for sharkfin soup, a prestige food to the uninformed, selfish, greedy, mostly wealthy, mindless classes of morons. Two decades ago these two shark species were common semi-coastal and open-water sharks, but demand for fins have slashed populations by 90 per cent in several regions. In the Gulf of Mexico, the White Tip is 99% depleted. Gus Sant, a shark expert at wildlife monitoring group TRAFFIC said: "The decision not to list all of these sharks is a conservation catastrophe. The current level of trade in these species is simply not sustainable." "We see clearly now the Japanese motivation for opposing all these marine species proposals," said Anne Schroeer, a Madrid-based economist with Oceana. "For the whales, they say they are catching them traditionally. For the bluefin tuna, they say they are eating it. But for the sharks, there is nothing but pure economic self-interest." More in this FLOG on human cruelty toward sharks, read hawaii-shark-feeding-business see the video clip and hear what Stephen Frink has to say about his favorite animal and how important animals in the Ocean. ### | 3/26/10 | Free | View In iTunes

CleanVideoShipwrecked HD video | Shipwrecks have captured the imagination of scuba divers with each person alone with their thoughts to wonder what may have happened, who was on board, how many died, and if other divers may have tempted the interior to find a watery grave since. Most wrecks are as safe as underwater safety can be, and most divers use extreme caution when entering a ship's interior, totally aware of what could be. This wreck is mostly skeletal with very few interior spaces to explore, but that doesn't diminish the experience. The BENWOOD was sunk in 1942 after WWII. Some say she was hit by German U-boat torpedoes and could not limp back to port. Other say she was laid to rest and used for target practice. Either way the BENWOOD is a shallow dive in reasonable current in the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary as a wonderful artificial reef to explore... and wonder. Choose the 640 or 960 HD clips. Our HD PodCast on iTunes offers an excellent viewing experience. Music by Garry Lee Rosenberg, appropriately titled; Sea Anemone. ### | 8/27/09 | Free | View In iTunes
CleanVideoAPPLE Mac Pro Nehalem chip chat | Apple Computer - is well known for excellent engineering and that has never been more apparent than inside the multi-core Intel architecture inside the newest Mac Pro dubbed Nehalem. As a government contractor I have the honor of providing products and services within my specialties. Mac systems for video production is one of those areas. I just finished rocking out two (2) systems which are loaded to the gills. I'd like to tell you where they are going, but if I told you I'd have to kill ME! Two identical systems to the one I have in my own studio and so I was entrusted to configure them for the military with components and software that would make anyone squeal with glee. Did I mention 16GB of RAM? Ya, that too, however this system has three RAM channels and share across all processors. Adding RAM to slot 4 will reduce the bandwidth speed on channel three and the RAM in slot four by half. This can be a negative for programs like Color, Motion, but the full rack-o-RAM is a positive for running multiple programs at the same time. I will be curious to performed the bench tests with 12GB; my system has 16GB installed. Get the scoop from the source: "INTEL" R U Looking for more MAC stuff? | 7 | CleanVideoKids Ocean TV Show | HD PodCast - Got KIDS? Too bad. Too bad more television shows are not produced for young kids. I hear complaints from parents who state most children programming is animation cartoon based. One DVD called The Reef has animated fish, but they don't teach anything about the Ocean. The fish character speak English, have human-like roles, engage in social situations about every aspect of life with little to nothing about the reef or fishes. Have you ever seen a fish talk? So what is the educational message? How about a television show about the Ocean in a format kids can enjoy? Young kids can't experience the reef so let's bring the reef to them. Perhaps there is enough kids programming to satisfy the federal mandate, but few are designed to engage kids with science on their level or drive them to the local aquariums. Just more of the same after school cartoons. Boring... With the exception of the host, this is a concept for kids. Unfortunately I missed the awesome opportunity to attend this year's National Geographic Producers Workshop @ WGBN Boston. Gives my team a year to wait and hope we are selected next time. What a team! | 8 | CleanVideoHawaii shark-feeding business | sub titled: Get your fat white ass outside of the cage with that hand full of chum for a real shark thrill! Video Podcast - While researching the Hawaiian monk seal for a potential documentary with NOAA I stumbled on the ugly exploitation of sharks in the region. It is shocking to realize with all the research on sharks shark tours are becoming an even MORE popular visitor attraction. A recent scuba-moron to Oahu's North Shore called it 'exhilarating'. With an attitude, "I just wanted to do it once." They headed for the hotel with a small polite group of Native Hawaiians on their heels. They were explaining to the fat backsides that Hawaiians consider the shark to be ancestral Gods. Feeding them for entertainment is disrespectful to their culture. Heck, it's disrespectful to all things in the Ocean, in food chain and the ecological balance. Hawaiians and Hawley alike want the operators to stop. To be clear: There is nothing wrong, in fact it is smart to use a shark cage. It is very wrong when a dive operator is feeding sharks for people in a cage. [caption id="attachment_582" align="alignright" width="280" caption="No food today? Let's head to the beach for a bite."][/caption] Surfers and environmentalists fear the tours will teach sharks to associate people with food. When the sharks don't find tourists in the little 'happy meal' steel cage what do you think will happen next? While the tourists watch the news from the Lazy Boy some surfer or diver will be missing a limb. The sad part is sharks don't even like the taste of human, but when confused and taunted the shark will snap and strike at anything. Sharks sit at the APEX of the World Food Chain. Sharks will gather in areas of tour feeding. The additional shark population will also create great competition for natural prey and cause stress or deplete other marine life in the process. But that's of little concern to the impatient tourist who wants a rush right now. Want a rush? Go down without a cage, see how a shark reacts to a hand full of chum. Oh, that isn't as pleasurable? The disrespect may seem temporary by the 'only once' gang o' fools but the damage lives on long after the thrill is gone. Joe Pavsek, owner of North Shore Shark Adventures, said, "If you read the law, you'll understand that I'm not breaking any laws." (Dhaaaa, why am I an idiot?) Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Joe Pavsek then revealed this jewel, "We don't have to feed the sharks. We do it for the customers." That's why Joe is an idiot. What would be wrong with the anticipation that you might be lucky and see a shark? Not stimulating enough for an over-stimulated couch potato. The same potatos think they are great athletes because of their dozens of hours with a video game. More than 400 Hawaiian residents packed a town hall meeting and successfully launched the anti-shark tour movement. State lawmakers have vowed to draft legislation to shut down the tours. Listen to world renowned underwater photographer Stephen Frink has to say about the state of this magical animal. For the record: Federal law clearly prohibits feeding sharks 200 miles off Hawaii to include the Pacific territories and Samoa. The only exceptions are made for fishermen who harvest them for food, and scientific research for the benefit of the shark. Ever hear of unintended consequences? Joe is dead wrong and needs to be stopped before someone innocent is declared dead right. It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature! ### | 7/27/09 | Free | View In iTunes

CleanVideoAlways Ready | Spring is in the air. Summer around the bend. Video at the end of this post! It won't be long until I will try to squeeze one more year out of that wetsuit. Either way I need to get in shape for the scuba season. This is also a good time to GREEN UP around the house and rethink our personal consumption of material and space. Reuse - no explanation necessary. Reduce - no explanation necessary. Recycle - no explanation necessary. Rethink - what we show our children. As you use up a spring cleaning product consider replacing with friendlier products or better yet; make you own household cleaner. Sweep out the garage and get rid of old paint cans, motor oil, propane tanks which are potential bio-hazards. They may require a call to your municipal recycling agency. You may have to drop the junk off, but hey - who had the stuff in the garage in the first place? Don't miss the SHARK clip in this post! Stuff you can do RIGHT and RIGHT NOW. That may be a hassle, but consider how the organization of expended and materials can benefit everyone. [caption id="attachment_522" align="alignleft" width="239" caption="USCG SEATTLE - The Coast Guard responded to a boat fire near Jim Crow Point, Wash., on the Columbia River, Ore. "][/caption] Semper Paratus: (sheck da spellin) Always Ready. USCG motto and guide. The US Coast Guard is a small but mighty element of Homeland Security. Like a fire department these guys and girls put themselves out there on the edge often to protect life and property. It doesn't mater who or how for a small boat station to deploy a crew. In the American Northwest the Ocean is - what's the word - hell. Wet hell at times and the CG has self-righting motor surf boats. These craft can and do get caught in surf so intense to cause a roll over. Between waves the boat is to pop, like a cork, in time for the crew to regain and maneuver to safety. I have been in some rough seas in a USCG Cutter and small boat, but Key West is nothing like the NW coast. On this day it looks like this crew has a pretty easy afternoon, but don't you go roasting any marshmallows in diesel fuel. Why-I-oughta ... welcome all new members! In fact I have yet to send email to members. That said; we just got the software installed, so look out. Just kidding, we may send one quarterly. SHARK! 26 second quick-clip: pick your size wisely. Why do we love sharks? They don't love us. Good thing, because if sharks liked the taste of human blood it would be impossible to ever enter the most amazing space on planet Earth. Man has not been kind to the predator and yet the shark determines whether we can swim or be eaten. For some reason, of which we are barely deserving, they let us swim clumbily along in our aqua coustumes. Here's a fun little clip following a shark using 'time remapping' to control the speed over the frame rate. Comes in small, medium, and HD. ENJOY! | 12 | CleanVideoHD2O-podcast007 | LAS VEGAS, NV--(FreePress - February 2, 2009) - hd2o cameraflyer Joe "ICE" Berg, is on assignment to capture the Manatee. A date and time will be determined by weather (daily conditions of the atmosphere in terms of temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind, and moisture), weather will determine whether (or not) ICE (the cameraflyer, not the weather condition) can get the shot (with a camera not a weapon). Any questions? What's a Manatee? <<Look it up link<<< or click on this handsome fellow below. "Hey Manatee, why the long face?" On assignment with HD2O "We are speaking with local experts, seeking out the best ways to approach the animals without stressing them." ICE has a great presence with animals; they are somewhat comfortable around him. Perhaps it is his comfort level in their environment that sets the animals at ease? But this post is about iTunes and a 30-second Barracuda clip posted there. You can watch it right now with the pop-up player, but for the best viewing experience I suggest viewing our HD2O PodCast withTunes. Check it out, Sign up, because Manatee clips are coming soon. Do you want to see this guy's video? Playing with our cameraflyer? (of course you do) HD2O - PodCast 007 The clip features a predator, the Barracuda! This animal is easy to find and fun to shoot because they don't fear of man. Our cameraflyer and crew were drifting to the end of a dive. The group (seen in this clip) was exploring the other side of the reef. Do you think they checked-out the 'chops' on this Great Barracuda? He was lurking under the ledge to duck out of the strong current, but barracuda rarely bother with humans, thank God. This one is way more interested in its reflection in the camera, watch as he checks himself out in good light for our camera. One swish of that powerful tail and he can go from Zero to 30 mph instantly! Click the in-line links for more detailed reading on the remarkable barracuda. Next in the series on predators: Podcast 008 Lunchtime with a Great Barracuda up close and personal. Clear and visible in HD, you will see a fish he just caught as he calmly swims away. We took a close look under an outcrop and reveal one way traffic, but which way? Depends on the flow. It was a team effort to keep the camera in place for this brief shot; we don't touch anything (but sand) in the process of observing. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="330" caption="Excellent for observation"][/caption] Near the end you will see an excellent example of how the musical influence follows the rough surging seas above. | 17 | CleanVideoHD2O Podcast 002 | Video - HD2O-BlugreenSymphony Do not disturb the residents? I don't think we could have bothered this blue parrot fish in a cleaning station. We take measures [caption id="" align="alignright" width="330" caption="Colors and Textures- click for full large image"][/caption] to be as non-intrusive as possible and to observe without touching anything but sand, which is exactly what this parrot fish returns to the sea at about the halfway point. An awesome toothed barracuda follows some divers who had no idea he was lurking about. They are predators, they look mean, they are very fast, but like the shark- barracudas think HUMANS taste like $#*^! (crap!) Because if they liked us, as a flavor, they could take their pick of slow moving butts, which is another good reason to stay in shape; predators take the slow injured ones. | 19 | CleanVideoMonkey College Training for Helping Hands | VIDEO in this FLOG ARTICLE - People who know my wife and me know we were the foster family for a Capuchin monkey. Lacey spent a few years with our family and we worked with her every day. We knew that training would be paramount in the level of care she could provide. The smarter the animal the harder it is to train and the longer it takes to develop skills. Dogs, we can all agree, are pretty smart. Next to a primate intelligence however there is a large gap. They don't have the same set of skills. A real smart dog is the golden retriever, which is why this bread is used as Service Dogs. It takes two years to get a Canine Companion for Independence up an running. (not to mention about $10,000) Compare that to a Helping Hands Capuchin, one of the most social and most intelligent primates, which takes 12 - 15 years. Granted the Capuchin service monkey has a greater responsibility caring for a high-quad. I recently found this clip on the Helping Hands web site and wanted to share it here. Be prepared to be amazed! Welcome to Monkey College at Helping Hands. | 10/17/08 | Free | View In iTunes
