The Legislative Session at ASA’s 2011 Conference | The Legislative Session at ASA's 2011 Conference was an informative session for all appraisal disciplines which is why we have decided to turn the recording of this session into a podcast. While it's a bit longer than our typical podcast, we hope you'll take advantage of this rare opportunity to listen to one of ASA's conference sessions. We hope this is beneficial to all of our appraisers. Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions. A brief description of the session is below. Speaker: Eric Thorson, Inspector General, US Department of the Treasury Mr. Thorson’s position gives him oversight not only of the Treasury Department, but also of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the newly-formed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. His work in conducting audits of some of the more infamous bank collapses from the financial crisis has helped shed light on how the absence of quality appraisals and the failure of bank management to ensure effective appraisal processes contributed to the shaky underwriting practices that ultimately doomed entities like IndyMac. Mr. Thorson also has a seat on a newly formed council which seeks to prevent the types of systemic failures which caused the most recent financial meltdown. | 9/2/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
