Rescue: From My Character Defect | Despite appearances, each of us struggles daily against sin. We have multiple character defects, and we judge others harshly for the very things we've struggled with. Consider Paul's words in Romans 7:24. "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?" We are freed from condemnation, cleansed and purified, and made new by Jesus Christ. That's how we overcome our character defects! | 10/8/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Rescue: From Total Captivity | Why do we live our lives in total captivity to sin? In many cases, it is because we do not submit ourselves to baptism by immersion. Submission unto baptism is nothing less than embracing God's purpose for our lives. It's a pledge of allegiance to do the will of God. Baptism means that we submit to a new Lord, a new King, a new authority. Instead of being captive to sin, we become captives of Jesus Christ. | 10/1/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Rescue: From Imminent Danger | There are many among us who live in a prison of fear and who feel there is no hope of rescue or redemption. But in the midst of terror, God is nearer and more real than we could ever imagine. In our danger, in our fear, God is working out his plan of redemption. God sees our struggle and is responsive to our faith when we cry out to him. | 9/10/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Rescue: The Rescue Begins | Think of how many people we pass by every day, who lay dying in ditches, who when they see us pass by, feel as though God himself has passed them by. Will anyone ever stop, see them, have compassion toward them, or be generous and loving to them? God hasn't passed them by, but Christians sometimes pass by. We need to see the big picture and realize that we are God's instruments of help on this earth. | 9/3/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A People Enthroned in Christ | This church was without need, rich and prosperous. They had many earthly blessings. However, they were chastised by Christ as being lukewarm, neither hot not cold. They were not broken over their many sins, and instead, wore their sins proudly and loudly. They neglected their prayer lives, worship and spiritual meditation. Are we like the Laodiceans? Does what Christ see in this church apply to us today? | 8/27/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

6 |
A People Secure in Eternity | This church was striving to know Christ, to walk through the open door to heaven, to trust Christ through trouble, and to embrace this hope of everlasting life. Their goal was to dwell permanently, for all eternity, in the city of God, the new Jerusalem. We see a church hoping for an eternal life and working diligently to advance Christ's kingdom. But what does Christ see? | 8/20/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A People Awakening from Slumber | [August 14, 2011] A People Awakened from Slumber. If this church was in our neighborhood, we would probably marvel at its lively worship, polished pulpit, quality programming, full parking lot, and who knows what else. This church would have had lights on every night with people coming and going. But interestingly, this is the only church of the seven in Revelation which did not receive a commendation from Christ. When looking at this church, most of us would see success. But what does Christ see? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette. | 8/20/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A People Blazing with Fire | This church was commended by Christ himself for its good deeds. They were filled with love and great faith. They were persevering in service. They weren't easily discouraged in serving God. And they were the raising the bar by loving God and loving people at a capacity far beyond where they first started, years earlier. Yet, Christ reprimanded them. We see a great church, but what does Christ see? | 8/6/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

9 |
A People Wielding a Sword | This was a persevering church, commended by Christ for not denying their faith in him, despite persecution. The church was thriving, despite being located in a paganistic and pluralistic culture. Antipas, who was member of this church, was martyred for his faith. We see a great church, but what does Christ see? | 7/30/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

10 |
A People Pursuing a Crown | This church is undergoing tremendous affliction. They are enduring hostility while being pushed to lower ranks of society because of their pure devotion to Christ. They are slandered by religious leaders and politicians despite impoverishing themselves to provide for the needs of the poor in their community. In spite of adversity, this church remained faithful. We see a great Church, but what does Jesus Christ see? | 7/23/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A People Shining Brilliantly | Imagine a church of hard workers who are zealous about visiting the aged, caring for the sick, and mending what's broken. They actively teach young people the Bible. They are exercising tremendous discernment in regard to their own beliefs and moral behavior. Despite tremendous resistance within their city, they persevere in their duty of serving God. We see a great Church, but what does Jesus Christ see? | 7/16/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The One | Christ wrote letters to seven first century churches in Asia Minor. Before reading what Christ said, they had to get serious about who Christ really is. Before they could understand the letters written to them in Revelation 2-3, they had to grapple with Christ's identity in Revelation 1. The same is true for us. We have to get serious about who Christ is before we can get serious about anything he would say to us. | 7/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

13 |
The Generosity of Jesus Christ | When Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan, he was speaking directly to the religious community. The Samaritan gave an illustration of extreme generosity to the man who was beaten and robbed, while the religious leaders looked the other direction. Hardcore generosity demonstrates our love for Christ and it can be personally costly. But generosity transforms us from the inside-out. Is there a lesson for us in this parable? | 7/2/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

14 |
The Rewards of Generosity | On the surface, generosity seems like a formula for financial ruin. But in actuality, generosity is a formula for prosperity. When we sow sparingly, we reap sparingly. When we sow generously, we reap an abundance! It doesn't make any accounting sense from a worldly perspective, but it's God's way for us. | 6/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Faith of Generosity | What captivates you? In what skill do you excel? What are you building? The apostle Paul was captivated by the generosity of the Macedonian church. The Macedonians excelled in generosity and they were committed to building Christ's Church. Are you excelling in the grace of giving? Do you have the faith you need to give sacrificially to build God's kingdom on earth? | 6/18/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

16 |
The Motive of Generosity | The Macedonian church was under severe trial, but was still overflowing with joy because they were transformed by God's grace. They made the advancing of God's kingdom their number one priority. Paul used the example of the Macedonians to challenge the Corinthian church to excel in the grace of giving. Likewise, today's Christ followers should also be challenged to give generously. | 6/11/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Source of Generosity | When we are generous in the name of Christ, our generosity demonstrates our true heavenly hope, our faith in Christ to provide for us, and our love of Christ. Those who are generous realize that they are God's instruments on earth and that their generosity represents the overflow of the grace of Christ in their lives. | 6/4/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Who Helps Me in the Troubling Times? | When Jesus left the earth, he did not leave us as orphans. He left us his Holy Spirit to guide us in our troubling times. Jesus even said that the Spirit, through us, would do greater things than he did when he was here on earth. If we know who the Spirit is, we have the knowledge to live with any circumstance even if we do not know why it is happening to us. | 5/28/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

What Does God Have in Store for Me? | God wants to bless his people, but God has a purpose for blessing his people. God blesses us through his direct intervention, through his interaction with his people on earth, and through inner-vention, changing us from the inside-out to be the people he wants us to be. God blesses us so that we have more opportunities to bring his message to the world. God is the God of all the nations! | 5/21/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Where is My Help For Today? | Trouble comes into our lives because of our sin, the sins of others, the curse of God, satanic activity, God's discipline, or our own righteousness. In this world there will be trouble! Trouble should not drive us from God, but ought to draw us near to God for help. Turn to God and trust him. God has answers for our troubles. | 5/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

What is My Path Forward | Our path forward isn't a place or a destination or a method or a technique or a coordinate. Our path forward is a person. It is our Lord Jesus Christ who is standing before our very eyes. He's inviting us to come and follow him. | 5/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

What is in my Future? | In light of all the trouble in this world, sickness, divorce, lust, adultery, violence and natural disasters, we wonder what God can do for us. What does our future hold? Regardless of what God can or might do for us in this life, we can know without any doubt that Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven, that he will come back to take us to be with him, and that we can know with certainty the way to eternal life. | 4/30/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

23 |
Why is This Happening to Me? | "Why am I so troubled? Why is this happening to me?" When it's all said and done, it doesn't matter how much health, strength, life, charisma, money, fame, job, power, or house we've built. Jesus tells us that in this world, there will be trouble. But the good news is that Christ has overcome the world. What matters for eternity is whether we've set our feet on the firm foundation of Christ. | 4/23/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Sacrifice and Redemption | After they sinned, Adam and Eve's shame was so great that they covered themselves with leaves and tried to hid in the trees from God. But God sacrifices an animal to provide a garment of skin in which to clothe Adam and his wife. Isaiah anticipates the day when God would offer his Son as a sacrifice for sin, that we would be clothed not with the blood of animals, but clothed with the very righteousness of Christ. | 4/16/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Shattered Self | Satan is alive and he is a deadly enemy. When he disguised himself as a serpent, he enticed Adam and Eve to sin. Satan appealed to Eve's appetites, emotions, and pride. Later, Satan tried to tempt Jesus in the same way. Have his strategies changed, or is he tempting us today in the same ways? | 4/2/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMENTUM SUNDAY | As Lakeside grows larger, the threats to our unity become more active. So we must agree on the essentials that bind us together. We agree to lift up the name of Jesus. We agree to walk by faith. We agree to become a large church. We agree to be intentional, believing as Jesus believed, becoming like Jesus, belonging to Jesus, and being sent on Jesus' mission. | 3/26/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Liar and His Lies | All was perfect in the garden of Eden. But the craft serpent, Satan, entered the picture. Lucifer was once an angel who was thrown out of heaven and his dominion is on earth. Created to Trust God | God's laws are for our benefit, but just as God's command was ignored in Eden, we continue to rebel against God today. But thanks be to God, even when we have sinned, God's light shines upon us and he invites us to cry out to him once more for salvation. Though we've stumbled a thousand times, he can rescue us. We must learn to embrace him as our lawgiver and judge. He is our Lord, the way, the truth, and the life. | 3/5/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Created to Be Free | God created the Garden of Eden as a place of beauty, joy, responsibility, and true freedom. Unlike us, Adam was free not to sin, but he did choose to commit sin anyway, of his own free will. But God frees us from our sin, and we can once again have true freedom through God's offer of salvation through his Son, Jesus Christ. | 2/26/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Sustained by God's Breath | In order for the earth to come alive with plant life, God had to provide rain. Just as the earth craves water, our souls crave the breath of God and his living water. We must allow God's Holy Spirit to povide sustenance to our souls. | 2/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Sanctity of Life | Our God is a life-giving God. David expresses the value of God's special creation, man, in Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV). "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." However, God's power goes beyond creation of life. It extends into forgiveness of our sins, through the power of Jesus' death and resurrection. | 1/22/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Our God is Decidedly Good | Science has a naturalistic explanation for the creation of the world. But what does the Bible say about creation? The Bible tells us that God created the world in both form and function. At every stage of creation, "God saw that it was good." We have a good world created with the imagination of a good God. | 1/15/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

God is Intensely Relational | In the beginning, the one true God, Elohim, creates everything in the heavens and earth. But Elohim is really the Godhead, three in one; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God isn't just intensely relational within the Godhead. He is intensely relational with his creation, with us. The story of God is about an intensely relational God who intensely relates to his creation— even to the extent of becoming like us, and dwelling among us, and becoming obedient unto death, even death on a cross! | 1/1/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Twice Amazed | At Christmas, we share in the amazement and wonder of Mary. Go and Preach | Throughout the gospels, people are admonished to be quiet about what Christ has done for them. From Fear to Faith | David Garland writes, "Mark writes for those who never will experience Jesus' physical presence. He writes for those who feel like the disciples, struggling against the wind in a tiny skiff during the dark hours of the night, feeling acute anguish because Jesus is not phsycially there to be touched or to give a word of assurance. In a setting of withering persecution, things can look ambiguous. But, "He is risen." | 12/4/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

When God Does the Unexpected | Barabbas didn't expect to be pardoned, the disciples didn't expect Jesus to be crucified, and Pilate didn't expect Jesus to die so suddenly. The Roman centurion didn't expect Jesus to be the Son of God, and the chief priests didn't expect the temple curtain to be torn. Mary didn't expect to see an angel in front of Jesus' empty tomb. Nobody expected the unexpected to happen that frightful morning, except one. | 11/27/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Cry of Salvation | As Jesus was crucified between two robbers, many hurled insults and shook their heads. "You who were going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, come down from the cross and save yourself!" Even Jesus seems to acknowledge the futility of his situation when he says, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" When Justice Doesn't Triumph | After his betrayal, Jesus is paraded through a late night kangaroo court and is sentenced to death by crucifixion. When the Rooster Crows | While Jesus prays in the garden of Gethsemane on the night of his arrest, he warns his disciples to stay awake and keep watch. Despite his repeated warnings, the disciples keep falling asleep. Their bodies are weak, their eyes are heavy, and they do not sense the magnitude of what is about to happen. But soon, the rooster will crow. | 11/6/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Poured Out for Many | In our culture, blood is a symbol of death. But for the Christian, blood is a symbol of life. When Christ poured out his lifeblood, it was to secure hope and salvation for all who would believe on his name. When we partake of communion, we long for that day when we will drink of the fruit of the vine in the eternal kingdom of Christ. Let's declare our hope in the blood of Christ, and renounce any fear of death. | 10/30/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Wasted on Jesus | A woman comes to Jesus with a jar of very expensive perfume, breaks the jar, and pours the perfume on Jesus' head. She is harshly criticized by the disciples. But in a few short days Jesus would be broken and his life poured out for the sins of the world. How could God offer such a priceless gift to the world? Would his gift be wasted on our lives? | 10/23/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Be Watchful Always | As the disciples express their sense of wonder over the magnificent city of Jerusalem, Jesus warns them that not one stone of the city will remain standing. When the disciples press Jesus for an explanation, he paints an even more dismal picture of wars, earthquakes, hatred, and distress unequaled from the beginning of the time. Delaying Discipleship | What do our questions reveal about our relationship with Christ? Throughout his ministry, Jesus was asked countless questions. "By what authority are you doing these things? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" This week's teaching will look beyond these questions and wrestle with Christ's call to follow him. | 10/2/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Do We Need to be Saved? | There is something peculiar about the way Mark describes Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem. Why does Mark give us so many details about the coming of Christ on a colt that had never been ridden before? Crying Out for Mercy | To most people in the Middle East, a blind man sitting alongside a road was a common sight and an unwelcome intrusion. As Jesus made his way to Jericho, just such a man begins shouting, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Would Jesus be delayed in his journey by responding to this man's needs? Yes! Jesus was compelled to stop and and invite the man nearer to him. | 9/11/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Road to Greatness | Expecting to ride on Christ's coattails to glory, the twelve disciples begin jockeying for position at the top. In Mark 10:37, James and John have the audacity to ask Jesus to sit at his right and left hand in glory. But Jesus warned them that whoever wanted to be first, must be the slave of all. The pathway to glory would be difficult indeed. | 9/4/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

That One Thing | That One Thing. A man asked Jesus, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" The man had set high standards of personal righteousness for himself, but despite his moral goodness, the man had a significant blind spot. Jesus loved him, but said, "One thing you still lack...." Jesus personalizes the costs of discipleship and calls us to live by God's righteous standards, not our own. | 8/28/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Gospel Rivalries | An embarrassing argument breaks out among the disciples about who is the greatest. Was it Peter, or James, or John? In Mark 9:35, Jesus redefines greatness. The Twelve were to assume positions of servanthood, thus following the example of Christ. | 8/14/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Everything is Possible | A young man is possessed by an evil spirit that would seize him, throw him to the ground, and cause him to do scary things. The disciples were unable to cast out the spirit. Risen From the Dead? | When Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a mountaintop, he was transfigured before their very eyes and they heard God speak. Counting the Costs | After Peter's declaration of faith in Christ's divinity, Jesus demanded that his disciples keep silent about his identity until they fully understood the costly nature of discipleship and had witnessed the resurrection. Peter's Great Confession | When Jesus was on earth, some thought he was a prophet, while others saw him as a great teacher. In contrast to what others thought he was, Jesus came to establish the authority of his kingdom in our lives and to deliver us from the power of sin and death forever. This is the issue in Mark 8:29 when Jesus asks Peter, "Who do you say I am?" Is Jesus the King of kings and Lord of lords in your life, or something less? | 7/17/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Here We Go Again | Throughout the gospel of Mark, we witness a collision of two paradigms-- the paradigm of sight versus the paradigm of faith. Scrounging for Breadcrumbs | In Jesus' day, dogs were considered unclean because of their ravenous and impulsive nature. For many Jews, "dogs" became a choice metaphor to insult non-Jews. Because the Jews saw themselves as the true children of God, they thought that their needs should be met first. In Mark 7, Jesus tests the faith of a non-Jewish woman seeking the healing of her child. How to be a Real Man | The Pharisees and teachers of the law were obsessed with "looking good", but their minds were full of corrupt thoughts, their hearts were far from God, they were neglecting family responsibilities, and they were being ruined by their appetites. Jesus unapologetically advanced an inside-out approach to manood. Five Thousand Hungry Mouths | Jesus' disciples found themselves in an impossible circumstance. Jesus had been teaching all day long and as the day wore on, the Twelve were agitated, hungry, and tired from a long day. They insisted that Jesus send the crowds away so they could eat and rest. The crowd was just as hungry, and Jesus told his disciples to "give them something to eat." What is Jesus trying to teach his disciples here? | 6/12/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Preaching Requires Sacrifice | It was never Jesus' intention to do all of the preaching. He called his disciples to him and gave them the power to preach and teach. Jesus' Call to Action | We are not always called to be comfortable when Jesus calls us, but as his disciples, we are still called to go and proclaim his message. Without Honor | Sometimes the least receptive people to the gospel are those who think they know us best. This is certainly the case as Jesus returns to his hometown and begins teaching in the synagogue. People were amazed by his teachings, his wisdom, and his ability to do miracles. But within moments, their amazement turns to skepticism. They couldn't reconcile how Jesus could be the Son of God when he also had an earthly family, including a mother, brothers, and sisters. | 5/22/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Crazy Wild Man | The first person Jesus encountered in Mark 5 was a man possessed by an evil spirit. He was so physically powerful, and under the control of an evil spirit, that no one could bind him, not with chains or iron cuff links. He roamed among the tombs crying out, cutting himself with stones, and terrifying everyone he encountered.
