A Godly Mother: Salome | John 20:20-23 records when Salome (mother of James and John) approached Jesus on behalf of her two sons. She is often the brunt of preachers' scorn, but she was not rebuked by Christ. In fact, we see Salome as a godly example of what a mother should be throughout the gospels. She was a worshipper (falling at Jesus' feet). She interceeded for her children. She took her dreams and expectations to the Lord. She hoped in the Lord. She was desirous to plant her sons into the kingdom. In Mark 15, you find her at Calvary, when most other followers had fled, as a faithful disciple. And in Mark 16:1, she was counted worthy to be a witness to God's power (the resurrection). | 5/8/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A Royal Wedding | Matthew 22:2; Revelation 19:7 It is estimated that over 2 billion (yes, billion!) tuned in to watch the wedding ceremony of William and Kate in England on April 29. Adjectives like ‘tremendous, beautiful, spectacular’ do not capture the grand scope of pomp and circumstance displayed in the chapel, the palace, the arrangements, the costumes, the musicians, etc. As we all expected, it was over-the-top … a wedding fit for His (and Her) Royal Highness. [I am thankful that the gospel - as short as it was - was broadcast to so many people around the world. It still has power!] The Lord used the ceremony in my heart to remind me of a great Scriptural truth: we are His royal bride! Read More... | 5/1/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Greatness of the Gospel | The word 'gospel' (Old English for God's spell) literally means 'the story of God.' It is the good news. It is the message of hope, of peace, and of grace... the message of salvation. In 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, the Apostle Paul outlines the three parts of the gospel: the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (for more, read 2 Cor. 4:4, Eph. 1:13, Rom. 1:16) Read More... | 4/24/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Seven Steps to Heathenism | Bro. McIlvain expounded on Romans 1:16-31. America is on the downward spiral from a Christian nation into full-blown heathenism... 1. Not glorifying God as God - idolizing everything but God. 2. Unthankfulness - ungrateful for our blessings. 3. Empty heads - amusing ourselves to death. 4. Darkness of heart - lacking the light of God's Word. 5. Professing wisdom - assuming to know better than God. 6. Becoming fools - never knowing what we are mission. 7. Creature worship - an offense against the glory of God. | 3/27/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Is the Lord Among Us or Not? | The Bible is a book about God - who God is and what He wants. Exodus follows the same pattern - it is a book about God. The message is simple: God is good. He is good and what He does is good. Every chapter speaks of the very hand of God throughout the deliverance and journeys of Israel. Exodus 17:1-16 records two such events: water from a rock and the first battle with Amalek. But Israel turned a question of God's presence into an accusation of God's neglect. Handling the Ups & Downs of Life | In Exodus 15, we catch up with the people of Israel on the proverbial 'mountain-top.' They had just witnessed the greatest victory in the history of their nation. They were up, way up. Yet if you read through to the end of the chapter, they have traveled three days without water in a parched desert and they are thirsty. Excitement spread as they saw water in the distance. Is it a mirage? No - it's the real thing! They ran to drink. Oh no, it's stagnate. It's bitter, not to mention dangerous. Just three days after their emotional high, they find themselves tired and thirsty, in the lowest of emotional valleys. Read More... | 3/13/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Stand Still & See the Salvation... | God often leads His people into situations that do not make sense to us. His ways are not always logical. Our perspective usually includes the shortest distance between two points, while God plans for the best route from an eternal perspective. After God had delivered Israel from Egypt, He led them right into a trap. They were penned in by the mountains, the desert, and the sea; this was not a reasonable strategy of escape. But God knew exactly what would happen, and this is exactly where Israel needed to be for reasons they would only understand later. God did not need their assistance, only their obedience. He was in total control and only needed their surrender for His plan to work perfectly (Ex. 14). Read More... | 3/6/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Do You Want What You Have? | Not long ago, I heard 'lust' defined as wanting something else, someone else, or somewhere else. If that's true, then I must confess to lusting quite a bit. I find in my heart a discontent for what I have and I'm not alone. Ingratitude and discontent are poisons that destroys the best of men and women. It has caused many marriages to fail. It has drowned families in debt. It has led us on a never-ending chase for satisfaction. The carrot is dangled in front of us, yet we never arrive at our destination... always wanting something else, someone else, or somewhere else. Read More... | 2/20/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Learning to Live in Liberty | After 400 years of cruel bondage and enslavement, the Jews are walking out with God's mighty hand on them, just as promised (Exodus 13:1-22). What could have been a short 10-day trip from Egypt to Canaan would take about a year - because God had quite a bit to teach His people. It was much easier to get Israel out of Egypt than to get Egypt out of Israel. This is a beautiful picture of the Christian's journey of faith. God saves us out of the world (Egypt) in an instant, yet the growing process of sanctification is the ongoing process of getting us ready for the Promised Land. | 2/13/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Lord's Passover | There are pivotal moments in our history… Pearl Harbor, Kennedy’s Assassination, D-Day, the fall of the Berlin Wall, September 11. But none would compare with the days of Exodus 12:1-36. This was big, really big. So big that God would change their entire calendar! I believe God loves changing calendars. A thousand years later, He would change our calendar forever with the birth of His Son. For those of us who know the Lord, we can measure our life by years BC (before Christ) and AD (as a disciple). What happened during the days recorded here would change history forever – for all people. Read More... | 1/30/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

God's Way | Exodus is a book about God's answer to man's need and God's supply for man's sin. In this message, we will discover the foundations of deliverance that will be realized later in the book (Exodus 5:1-6:30). Moses and Pharaoh clash - representing the wills of both God and Satan for the chosen people. While the Jews were expecting great and immediate deliverance, they were met with tremendous difficult and added oppression. But things don't have to be going our way to be going God's way... He was still very much in control! He revealed Himself to Moses as Jehovah, the covenant-keeper. The LORD then reminded Moses of his chosen lineage (Gal. 3:29 states that if we are Christ's, then we are part of that seed as well and heirs of the promise). With this news, Moses went back to Pharaoh to show the Lord strong and mighty in Egypt and to deliver His people... | 1/23/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

That They May Believe | Exodus 3:1-4:17 records the calling of Moses. The burning bush experience was one of revelation of God as the Great I AM to a reluctant leader. The key to understanding this passage is: TRUST! God believed in Moses as His man - and Moses needed to learn to trust God wholly - and the people of God would grow in their faith, too. *God doesn't call us to tasks too difficult for HIM. Oftentimes, what the Lord asks of us is nearly impossible to us, but not for Him! *The Lord wants our obedience, NOT our excuses. Moses expressed some genuine concerns... I'm unworthy (insecure); I don't know enough (unprepared). Yet God's answers were simple: 'I will be with you, I AM enough! Trust me.' But they were not enough for Moses... I'm afraid (what if...); I'm not able (speech); I don't want to (unwilling). *The Lord chooses to use WEAK people to do great things (1 Cor. 1:26-31). He loves to use foolish, feeble, cowardly, commonplace, and contemptible vessels so that He will receive the glory! Read More... | 1/16/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

God Knows | The main theme of Exodus 2:23-25 is the Providence of God... God Knew - and He still does! He heard the cry and groans of His people, He cared about their suffering, and He knew how to deliver them. In Ex. 2:1-10, we see *A Parent's Faith: a young couple married in the midst of such oppression and decided to have children. Jachobed released her son by faith and was blessed with his return for several years. God knows how to deliver our children from the hand of the enemy. Forty years later, we are shown *A Prophet's Failure (Ex. 2:11-15). Moses had it in his heart to deliver his people, but he operated by sight instead of faith, in his time instead of God's - but God knows how to deliver us for our failures for His glory! This was all *Preparation for the Future (Ex. 2:16-22). Moses ran to Midian to learn a new style of leadership (shepherding) and the lay of the land (where he would lead a wandering people for 40 years). God knows how to deliver his people from their bondage. Read More... | 1/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Getting Ready for Deliverance | Exodus 1 gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the events leading up to the redemption of God's people. *The Need for Deliverance: They had made this foreign land their home. They had forgotten where they belonged & did not return to Canaan after the famine. *The Desperation for Deliverance: Egpyt's system is one of burdens, impossible expectations, fear, and terrible oppression (rigour). Once the Tyrant has you, he wants to keep you. We are made free by the Truth, so why do we keep returning to the elements of bondage? *The Operator of Deliverance: God is always at work! The Jews were not in the place God had for them, yet He was faithfully blessing them and multiplying their labors. God's covenants are unconditional toward His people. *The Key to Deliverance: Fearing God. The Israelite midwives demonstrated great courage in the face of Pharaoh's mandate, believing God (and they were blessed with families of their own). Fearing & trusting God above all others is always the right move! Read More... | 1/2/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Making a Difference | As we close out 2010, it's time to come full-circle and once again look at some things that make a difference. Remember, things that make a difference in you make a difference in others. A few things that make a difference are: little things (1 Samuel 14:6; Matt. 18:20), Generosity (Phil. 4:10-19; 2 Cor. 8:3-5), and Commitment (Acts 20:24). May God continue to use us to make a difference in others during the coming year... | 12/26/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

It's All About the Presents! | If we are honest, we’d have to admit that we enjoy getting gifts at Christmastime. It might not be like it was when we were kids, but there’s still something special when you read your name on a beautifully-wrapped box under the tree. I’d like to take a look at Christmas (literally Christ-mass or the worship of the Messiah) by focusing on what we are usually told not to focus on: the presents! The True Meaning of Christmas | I think that we both would agree that Christmas is more than the cards and gifts, more than the trees and lights, more than family and food. There is a much deeper meaning, a much more fulfilling notion than that of a fat, bearded man on a sleigh. It is the birth of the Christ child: the true story that God was born of a virgin in the little town of Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. BUT WHY? To so many, the mystery of this event brings a magic to their celebration like none other. Let’s unwrap the greatest Christmas gift ever given and discover the real reason for the season… Read More... | 12/12/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Christmas Messengers | When we think of the Christmas story, we often think of Christ, of Mary and Joseph, of the shepherds and the wise men. But this post is dedicated to the most overlooked character(s) of the Nativity: Gabriel and the angels. Angels appeared at least six times in the few months surrounding the birth of our Savior — proving Heaven’s interest in such a significant event. Read More... | 12/5/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Christmas Blessings | I recently read that the average American loses $75 every year. Quarters in the couch, bills left in the cash dispenser, money laying near the register… Seventy-five dollars! But get this, the average income world-wide is only $69 per year. That’s right: Americans lose more money than most people make! Aren’t we blessed – I mean, so blessed?!? I have a theory that we sell more stuff at yard-sales than most of the world ever accumulates. We sell our stuff so we can get more. Funny thing is, we didn’t buy half of that stuff in the first place (another blessing!). Read More... | 11/28/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Hope in the 'Can Do' God | It's important to remember what our God is able to do! We easily forget what God has done and what He is capable of... which is anything. Our Hope of Salvation | It is a twenty-five word ‘parade of hope.’ It’s small enough to fit on a post-it note, yet powerful enough to last 2,000 years. It is the entire message of God in a nutshell. It is the gospel in one verse. It is the Magna Carta, the Rosetta Stone of Christianity. It is John 3:16. If you know nothing of the Bible, start here. If you know everything in the Bible, return here.* For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish , but have everlasting life. Hope in the Last Days | So much of what we call hope is temporary. It is fleeting. At most, it lasts in this life only. Paul said (1 Cor. 15:19) that if Christ brings a temporary hope only, we are the most miserable of men on the planet. I would agree. Most people don’t wear parachutes because they are comfortable (in fact they are quite uncomfortable), they wear them for security. So many Christians today have ditched their parachute because it didn’t bring them happiness on the flight of life. Read More... | 10/24/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Hope from the Scriptures | Hopelessness is everywhere. Experts predict that depression will be the second-leading reason to see a physician by 2020. It is spreading like a virus… what can we do?
